I wasn't on a JUMP plan previous to this. I was on T-Mobile but had long since paid off my device. You can give them ANY smart phone. It doesn't have to be your current device or even a T-Mobile phone. In my case I traded in an old Lumia 521 Windows phone (which I hadn't used in a few years). It happened to be a T-Mobile device but that wasn't a requirement. It was a slow, old phone and was bottom of the line when I bought it four years ago. There are only 3 requirements: it must be a smart phone, it must power on, and the screen cannot be cracked. You don't even need the charger. I have heard of people buying a $10 no-contract smart phone from Walmart and then turning around and going to T-Mobile to use it as their JOD trade-in. If you resist the urge to constantly upgrade while on JOD (or only upgrade once to the iPhone 6s when it comes out), you can save over $200 off the retail cost of the 6 or 6s at the end of the lease, assuming you choose to purchase the phone at that point.

I went to the store yesterday and picked up a 6 Plus 64 GB. I was lucky enough to be dealing with the store manager and he mentioned that the memory upgrade fee issue had come up in discussions with corporate and was still being worked out. He assured me that, in the end, I would not be shorted an extra $100 for upgrading the memory of the 6 and the 6s. He said that there were two possibilities when the next iPhone comes out for people that choose to upgrade the memory: (1) We would have to pay another $100 memory upgrade fee upfront and then we would receive a bill credit for $100 or (2) by the time the 6s is released, their computer systems would be updated to make it possible for employees to waive the $100 memory upgrade fee when a customer jumps from one 64 (or 128) GB device to another. He stated that there was no way we would have to pay twice to upgrade the memory. I took his word for it, as he said he would stand behind it.

On a side note, this 6 Plus is the first iPhone that I've used in in 5 years and I'm finally seeing why people choose these instead of Android/Windows Phones. There is a huge difference in terms of quality both hardware and software. I keep waiting for annoying programming bugs and battery drain from some runaway background process but it's not happening. Despite the fact that the internal hardware specs are lower, these phones outperform their Android competitors when it comes to usability.
I just did this today as well and I love it. Two questions -

1) Is it okay to get minor nicks/scratches on it before jumping next month? Or does it need to be Mint condition.

2) More importantly - Do we know how they plan on giving us priority when upgrading to the 6s?

I'm no authority of course, I've just done a lot of reading on the reddit forums (Lots of info: https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/3f1xw1/please_post_all_your_jump_on_demand_andor_iphone/?sort=new&limit=500 ) From what I've read, they will allow for "normal ware and tear" which, I assume means that nicks and scratches would be allowed for a trade in, as long as the screen is not cracked. I wouldn't expect them to take back a phone that's completely mutilated (even with an intact screen) without some hassle though. I would imagine that one month of "normal" wear and tear should be pretty minimal.

I haven't heard how they are going to give the JOD customers priority, although I would imagine we would be dealing with the retail stores, rather than the website, since JOD is exclusive to retail. I plan on just calling in after the 6s announcement and asking them what to do.

When you did this today, did they say anything about the memory upgrade and whether you would have to pay twice? I'm hoping the info that the manager of my store gave me was accurate.

So I went to another store and they said I had to pay twice.

The guy I signed up said I only had to pay one time and showed me this screen. (Sent via PM)

What really sucks is I wanted to eventually get 128GB but supposedly Jump! On Demand is only for phones in store and they don't carry 128GB in store.

I signed up as well on saturday switched 4 lines from verizon. They guy i signed up with told me every upgrade would require the $100 up front for the 64gb iPhone.

He also told me I would be able to upgrade online for JOD

Definitely not right. If you pay an upgrade now you shouldn't have to pay it again (unless you go to larger storage option) - and it's phones that are in-store only. Jump! On Demand is an in-store only policy.

I think i've responded to you in other threads. I switch last Friday. I did the 16GB because the rep told me I would have to pay twice. For the upgrade she told me to come back and I would have to call in or order in store to get the 128GB 6S Plus.

^^^ this gentleman is correct.

You can get the 16gb iPhone 6 for $15 and $0 down payment. If you chose let's say the 64gb iPhone 6 you would have pay a $100 down payment. Same goes for 6 Plus but instead of $15 a month it would be $19 a month. You are leasing the phone for 18 months. As long as you don't jump to a new iPhone before the 18 months are up you keep your promotional price. If you do jump to a new iPhone then you will lose your promotional price and revert to the normal cost. You will have the option to buy the iPhone 6 outright whatever the remaining balance is after the 18 months if want. Otherwise trade it back to get a new phone.

The best suggestion is to get the 16GB iPhone 6. Pay tax and no down payment. When you upgrade to the 6S then go for a bigger storage if you want and pay the down payment plus tax then. Otherwise you'd pay a down payment on both 6 and 6S. It says in the T-Mobile blog post that you don't, but I am personally concerned that you will end having to and don't trust it. Unless someone has some good intel on it.

I'm considering switching this Friday from AT&T to T-Mobile and going with that strategy.

Just wanted to chime in on this as I was very confused as well as to what happens to the promo price when you upgrade to a new phone. I just got a 16GB iPhone today at the $15 promo price. According to the lease agreement they had me sign, and this is a quote:

"For Customers participating in the iPhone 6 Promotion only: By leasing any model of an iPhone 6 (including an iPhone 6 Plus) and participating in the iPhone 6 Promotion, you will receive up to 18 monthly bill credits of $12.00 for as long as you continue to lease the iPhone 6 under this JUMP! Lease Agreement and maintain wireless service for the iPhone 6. You will also continue to receive a bill credit if you exercise your JUMP! upgrade option described below prior to December 31, 2015 to lease any other eligible iPhone 6 model or a successor model to the iPhone 6 and maintain wireless service for the device."

I also talked to a rep and they assured me that if I upgrade next month, the promo price will still apply. Obviously, according to the terms of the lease agreement, this will not always be the case. But I think it's safe to say those who buy/bought an iPhone 6, will be able to upgrade to the 6S next month without losing the bill credit. All in all, $15/month for a 6S with an option to own the device at the end of the lease for a total amount of $434 (for 16GB) is a sweet deal.

I share your understanding of this. It's all but certain that there will not be a promo price on the iPhone 7 (or whatever they will call it). T-Mobile is banking on the fact that those who take the 6 now and the 6s next month will be willing to upgrade again in a year and assume a higher monthly lease fee for the a new device. It's a risk on their part because there will be people who choose to keep the 6s permanently. Those people will enjoy a $200 discount on the retail price of the phone, assuming that they stick with T-Mobile and do not upgrade again after the 6s. I tend to think that T-Mobile is right about most people though. The iPhone 7 will come out and people will have to walk into the store and choose to either make a final, substantial payment on their 6s to own it, vs. on the other hand, a new agreement to pay $30 a month for another 18 months and walk out with a brand new iPhone 7 with nothing down. I suspect the average person will choose the new phone and commitment with a higher monthly payment, which is what they are banking on. The fact that this deal is limited to retail stores means that people will have to physically go in to the store where they can place the iPhone 7 into customer's hands and tempt them with the shiny new iPhone 7. It's pretty smart actually. I hope it works out well for T-Mobile and that they continue these promotions in the future because I certianly don't mind the $200 discount.

I agree that having customers come into the store to either pay off the iPhone 6S or lease a new 7 will tempt a lot of folks to get the 7. However, $30 a month is a pretty good increase considering that at the end of the 18 months you don't own a phone unless you come up with another $110...assuming $650. Also, Sprint has the iphone forever plan going on and if T-Mobile just continues to offer $12 credit as long as you upgrade to an iPhone its a win-win.

Yeah, I talked to a rep today and he said I'd have to pay twice for an upgraded model. I think I'll just get the 16GB model now and upgrade ASAP when the 6S comes out.

This is exactly what I did. I gave my 128GB iPhone 6 to my wife and bought a 16GB iPhone 6+ under the JOD plan. I figured I will only use this phone for about a month until the 6S comes out. I actually like the 6+ and will be jumping to the 128GB iPhone 6S+ when it comes out. I guess I'll only have to pay the $199 memory upgrade fee and then continue my $19/month. Hopefully, the S models will support the 700MHz LTE (Band 12) so I can take advantage of the better indoor coverage in Colorado Springs.

^ solid info. This has been the only thing stopping me from doing JOD.

Now I just hope that my local stores have the 64 GB 6S+ in stock. I had to drive 100 miles to Nashville to get the 6+ and that was in January! My local spots are notorious for only carrying 16 GB models, unfortunately. And knowing T-Mobile, this will be an issue with JODers come this iPhone launch.

I'm really tempted to just do EIP at the Apple Store, but the JOD pricing is too good to pass up.

When I talked to the rep at the store I went to he said that they would ship out those early preorder iPhones. Even if they didn't have stock in the store for either the 6 or 6S that they would ship that capacity model to me. Of course he didn't have the info that ghsNick just shared, which is why I am using a 16GB model right now. Oh well, less than a month now and I will hopefully have the newer model!

I hope it all goes smoothly, but I can almost guarantee people are going to be screwed. As mentioned, folks will go to their local TMO store expecting to walk out with a 64 or 128 GB iPhone and some will leave emptyhanded as their store will only carry the 16 GB model. Literally every iPhone/iPad release on TMO has been this way for me. Hell, we have 3 stores in my city and for the 5S, not a single store had any on launch.

And the whole JOD getting preference is a disaster waiting to happen. For reference, see the launch of the 6/6+. They promised Jump! customers would get preference and a ton of them waited months for their iPhone, while new customers were getting them a week after launch. It was a complete disaster.

I'm hoping Legere and crew have learned from past mistakes, but I'm skeptical. Eventually everyone will get their JOD iPhone, but I don't think it's going to be as easy and smooth as they've made it out to be. Hopefully I'm wrong though!!

Most definitely they will try and screw us haha - but I don't think it's intentional. T-Mobile has been pretty vague when explaining everything and I still have people at the same store saying I'll need to pay twice.

Luckily there's a Reddit which also confirms everything from a higher up. I heard they may break the in-store only rule with online pre-orders? But who knows...

Yeah, I also have a feeling it will be a hassle. I just hope T-Mobile will lay out clear instructions on the process near, or very soon after, the event. Hopefully they are just about to send a memo to employees detailing this
process.

Here's what my T-Mobile rep showed me when I had concerns about paying the upgrade twice. Definitely shouldn't have to pay twice...

UGH. I wish I would have had this when I went. Oh well. Gonna pre-order the 128GB next Friday (assuming pre-orders go live). Thanks for posting this and helping others out.

  • My Fiance (Verizon) and Myself (AT&T) plan on joining my Mom who has had T-Mobile for 10 years on a 3 line plan today. Talked to a rep yesterday. We will both get Jump!OD, one 64GB 6 for $100 down and $15/mnth. One 6+ 64GB, $100 down, $19/mnth. So $120 for 3 lines with 10GB Data and $34 in phones. I purchased the cheapest burner smartphones for the trade in, so that I can sell our current iPhone 6's for a good price. Not a bad deal at all.
  • The manager of this store said they will either have you pay the $100 again for the 6S and 6S+ (64GB) and then credit it back to you or just not have you pay anything down when the 6S is released, they weren't sure yet.
  • Of course they will give us VISA cards for our AT&T and Verizon ETF too.

True to form, my local TMO store was absolutely clueless about this iPhone promo. I'm not sure why I even bother lol.

Also par for the course was the fact that they had no 64 GB 6+'s in stock. I don't think I'm going to go with this promo. If I lived in a huge city with stores that actually stocked any models besides the 16 GB version, I'd do it without hesitation. But when the rep told me that they could order a new iPhone for me should it not be in stock in-store on release day, enhhhhh.....I'll pass.

I'll just head to my Apple store and do EIP there so my phone can be unlocked from the get go.

I just traded in my almost 4-year-old Samsung Galaxy S2 for the 16GB iPhone on the 31st. This is a MUCH better deal then what I've been reading about, since there's many that do not fully understand the deal.

-T-Mobile will take any working smartphone in. If it is worth under $216, they will "allow" you that amount upon trade-in towards the lease requirements. If it is worth MORE than $216, you receive a bill credit.

-After the 18 monthly payments of $15 (or $19 for the iPhone 6+), which comes out to $270, you have the option of turning your iPhone 6 in, or purchasing it outright for $163.92. That's it. After no down payment, and turning in an old smartphone (there's NO WAY anyone would ever give me $216 for my old Galaxy S2...), you can walk away with an iPhone 6 for $433.92.

There's also NO WAY I could grab a brand-new iPhone 6 anywhere else today for $433.92.

The transaction was painless. I did listen to the manager talk about the current tablet promo, but politely declined. I also declined the $8/month insurance as well.

The actual iPhone 6 cost me nothing at all upfront. Receipt said $0. Just signed the paper and walked out with it.

I am curious to see how JOD works. Is it different than the normal EIP? Is it a fixed monthly rate? I outright own my 6+ (ie no monthly payments) I am thinking about doing JOD with the 6s+ tho. Thoughts?
