T-Mobile Jump on Demand- $15 for iPhone 6- worth it?

I am curious to see how JOD works. Is it different than the normal EIP? Is it a fixed monthly rate? I outright own my 6+ (ie no monthly payments) I am thinking about doing JOD with the 6s+ tho. Thoughts?

It has a fixed monthly rate like EIP.

If you own your 6+ outright, do NOT trade it in. You'll make more $$ selling it on your own than you would receive trade credit from TMO.

Well, I gave in and did JOD today. Traded in an old G2 and a ZTE Zinger I bought for $20 from Walmart. I had planned on going to the Apple Store to do an EIP when the 6s+ launched, so I headed there Sunday to see if it would work. I had issues doing it this past January when it kept throwing a processing error when I'd try to upgrade in-store. Well, lo and behold, I got the same error. After an hour long tech support call and emails to Legere when it initially happened, it looks like it never got fixed. SMH.

So JOD it is. Grabbed a 16 gig 6 and 6+. I'll upgrade to 64 gigs for the new iPhone and pay the $99/line then. Here's to hoping all goes smoothly with JOD upgrades this launch!

Just did JoD to upgrade from a 128 GB iPhone 6 (unlocked AT&T I brought to T-Mo with me) to 128 6+. Since I can trade in for a 6S+ without paying anything extra, it seemed like I had nothing to lose.

Didn't trade in my 6 though, obviously. I'll sell it on Swappa (or anyone here want to buy it?). I had a 6 year old Nexus One I traded in. The thing can't be worth more than 30 bucks, I fail to see how T-Mobile's making money on this deal, but whatever, I can't complain.

I didn't want to have any extra monthly amount on my bill, but we had an old samsung fascinate (VZW) and my wife and I were like its not worth it to pay full price for the iPhone anymore. The monetary value just isn't there anymore. (when you go to re-sell) So, I traded that in for an iPhone 6 plus gold 16GB ( I had a SB 16GB 6+) so I figured its $33 a month with JOD, but they give you a $12 monthly credit, right? So, not bad...and then when the pre-orders go up, I can go into the store and pre-order and then turn this one in..IMHO its a NO brainer to do JOD!

Too bad I didn't see this thread until today, otherwise I would have signed up as well. I was on the fence about this promo because of all the questions folks had on page 1 here. But now the deal is expired. The T-Mobile CEO did hint that they will do something special involving the 6s this week though, so maybe something good will come of that.

I've also run into the problem of stores only stocking the 16 GB model, and I've even had employees tell me that T-Mobile customers are too cheap to buy anything else. I don't believe that for a second, and find it a little insulting actually. This was a couple months ago when I was looking to upgrade my wife's phone, and I just walked out the door and ordered online. I didn't want that guy getting any commission after that statement.

I think the only way T-Mobile is making any money is in the long run. If they get you off the promotional deal, and upgrading 3 times a year then they will make money on you paying to use a device for such a short period, plus they always talk up their protection plan. I traded in my OG Moto Droid, definitely worth less than even a Nexus One; not by much though...

I went into a store yesterday to get a 128 GB model. The guy tells me that they don't have any, one might be tough to find, and he starts calling around to other stores and no one had one. He then asks me if I'd be OK with a 64. I hesitated because I'd really prefer the extra space for movies and music on account of the fact I'm going to be spending nearly 48 hours on airplanes by the end of the month, but didn't want to lose out on the JoD deal so I said I could make do. He didn't have any, but he starts calling again and the first store he calls (one that said they didn't have 128s) says they have plenty of 64s and they'll set one aside for me.

I got to the other store, said "So and so from such and such store said you guys are holding a 64 6+ for me" and she said she'd go back and grab it. As she's headed back, I ask her if by any chance they had any 128s in stock, and a few seconds later she emerged with a 128 SG 6+. She said pretty much the same thing (didn't use the word cheap to describe their customers, but said a lot of customers prefer the cheaper models) and they for some reason were one of the only few stores to regularly get 128s in stock. I don't know why they told the first store I was at on the phone why they didn't have any, perhaps it was a misunderstanding or someone was too lazy to look. But I'm glad the first store I was at was out of 64s or else I would've settled for it right then.

I'm hoping T-Mobile will do online JOD! Pre-orders for the 6S, then we can just ship our phones to them. I too had a hard time finding a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus.
I agree...I would imagine we should see something like that. I am **guessing** we will hear about that after tomorrow's keynote from John.

Not sure if this qualifies as making money or not, but they're clearing out inventory. Probably more like losing less money than they would otherwise. My guess is they are just fine with making an extra $15 - $30 off people on phones that would have otherwise sat around unsold, then had to be sold off at a reduced price anyway. Especially if it convinced people to switch carriers one or two months early instead of waiting for the update.

They might break even or make a little bit of money on devices. A $600 phone would be $25 a month, after a year that's $300 for them and they keep it, after 18 months if you don't want to buy the device that's $450 and they keep it. They have to offset the depreciation, but where they really get you is in the damages, which stack and are $250 a piece, or on their $8/month handset protection.

I would watch out for a blog/video blog/twitter/facebook/ periscope update tomorrow am from Legere. He did a periscope brief video tonight saying there is going to be a big announcement (s) tomorrow am around 8am Eastern.

I don't think the announcement will have anything to do with the iPhone.

My guess is the Apple Watch, as he said today on Twitter that TMO is getting it.

oh its going to be HEAVILY weighted toward the phone. he basically said he coming up with a way/reason for everyone to at least try TMO, and....priority shipping for us JOD and we pre-order within first 48 hours. Not to mention, he is gonna release the prices for the new phones AND basically said he will find a way to get a 6s or 6s+ in anyones hands. I have a feeling** us JOD will be able to pre-order online when they go live and not wait to do it in the store later that morning.

Please let this come true! I'm glad he will be announcing it so early in the day, as I've been wanting to know how this all would work for weeks. I'm curious about his other announcements as well.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I'm not sure what I was thinking about when I wrote that lol.

There's still a lot to flesh out with JOD, pricing, etc.

So i couldnt understand this JOD program. Can someone explain it to me how does this work? I want to get 6s+ for my wife. She currently has 5s and she is on AT&T prepaid plan. Can someone explain how it is going to work? thanks

Anyone have any idea with the preorders if I will be able to pick one up in the store?? I am going out of town on the 25th, but will have time in the morning to pick it up so I can take it with me!!

I did the $15 JoD... I've never done a preorder before, so I'm not sure how it works with getting one in the store.

I won't be able to wait around all day for it to get delivered on the 25th.

It's basically an 18 month lease program that gives you the option of upgrading 3 times per year. When you upgrade you simply trade in your old phone in-store and walk out with a new one. Your 18 month lease resets every time you upgrade though.

After 18 months you'll have the option to buy the device outright by paying a final payoff amount.

I'm wondering how we are going to pre-order and if we do it online and want the same memory model that we currently have (I have a 64GB phone) how they won't make us pay the $100 deposit again.

Very interesting...

John Legere said this info is coming about an hour ago on his Twitter.

Okay. Thanks so for the very first time do I have to trade in any smartphone? Because I was thinking of selling my wife's iPhone 5s and then adding the money to the purchase of 6s+

As long as the smartphone turns on, has no water damage, and no screen cracking you can trade in any phone from any carrier. A lot of people have either traded in old devices or just bought cheap $20 smartphones from Walmart and the like.

So we can order online? I'm guessing it's to place an order online and pick up in store and exchange our iPhone 6? I can't read the tweets at work.
