This is marketed towards rural areas where cellular is about the only option.
Some are saying this is totally not worth it but in my area in rural Arizona, the best option is Suddenlink with speeds around 100mb/s and costs over $100. This is a good alternative until starlink is everywhere.

This is where I've been saying the industry is headed and is exactly why Apple discontinued their AirPort.

As 5G infrastructure spreads, eventually every device that needs connectivity will have it built in. Everything from a laptop to a smart watch to a connected lightbulb to a smart dog collar will have a 5G chip that accesses your 5G plan and is always online.

The days of WiFi networking will give way to always connected devices networking via the cloud, not a local router.
But why 5G? You can do the same with 4G LTE. Your dog collar does not require hundreds of megabit it’s more to do with device requiring cellular modem. It’s not easy to make a dog collar that needs to be charged everyday.

Am I going to see constant commercials for a service that’s not available in my area like at&t fiber?

For the speed, $60 is a lot.
I live in Michigan outside Ann Arbor. Until about a year ago I was paying ATT about 60 a month for DSL and I was averaging 8 MBs a second. It was constantly breaking. My only other option was Comcast, which cost about the same and was advertising 25 MBs a second. Both had caps and I will never do businesss with Comcast again. They are a horrible company.

TMobile offered this service last year on a limited basis for 50 a month and I jumped on it. I constantly get over 80 MBs a second and often it is significantly faster. Further there is no data cap and the router is a big improvement. I’ve never been happier about an Internet service.

For people stuck with limited options, this will be a major step up.

Turning off built-in Wi-Fi disables the NAT in the T-Mobile device? Normally those are two independent features.
You may be right, and sorry if I provided misinformation. The intended takeaway was that you can use your own router and that there are some things to adjust if you do so. I'm not an expert.

This is exactly what this product is about. T-Mobile isn't expecting waves of defections from high-speed DSL or cable internet customers, but those services don't go everywhere. If you're posting about how fast your wired internet service is, you're probably not the target customer. For what this is, it's fantastic IMO.

Because if there’s one thing rural America is known for, it’s a strong cellular signal.
Oh… wait.
It's hit or miss, though. T-Mobile towers aren't everywhere, but they are in lots of rural areas, and this becomes an option if you're lucky enough to have a signal.

SpaceX's Starlink vs T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet....who is going to come out on top in the battle for rural connectivity? Only time will tell...
TMobile is going to be a better value for most. While SpaceX offers faster service (where it is available) you have significant start up costs and the monthly costs are also significantly higher. TMobile has no start up costs and no contract.

Not bad, hopefully truly unlimited. should fill some crack/gaps that exist.

It says I’m eligible, and I’m already a 5G customer, but I only get 3 down and .75 up any & everywhere inside my suburban home. Walk less than 4 minutes in the area (only trees) and I hit 310 down and 80 up on my 12 Pro Max super-YMMV

I read on the verge there is potential for throttling for network congestion which is no bueno if that happens. I'd love to move to this plan if it is offered. I'd like to check it out.

So I actually have had this service for about a month and I'm pulling 170-250mbps down. 30-70 up. Not bad considering I'm in a garage apt in the Houston Heights and don't have to go through my landlord to install anything.
so can you connect your mesh router to the mobile 5g router.

100 mps for $60 is too expensive for the suburbs. For that price, you can get 1 gps fiber line. 10X faster!

This is something I have been waiting for. A mobile hotspot (hopefully) that I can use at home and possibly take with me. And I loathe our cable company, so I really don't want to give them any more of my $$ for high speed internet.

All I want is internet fast enough for streaming. So I could use the various services like Amazon Stick/Roku/Hulu, etc. I am not a gamer nor do I need fast uploads. Just something I can log into and also use to watch my favorite TV programs.

If this is consistently fast enough to do this, I am definitely interested.

"...including 10 million households in rural areas not typically able to access reliable broadband. Connectivity will be either 4G or 5G, depending on what's available in a given area."

100mbp would be a dream to have... even at that price.

I know a lady who is stuck with 6mbps DSL... that's SIX... and she's only a mile outside a college town. But she lives down a looong driveway so DSL is her only "broadband" option.

Rural and mountainous regions have done a semi-decent job adding cellular connectivity over the years... but not so well running cable and fiber.

This T-Mobile plan could be great for them.

Not all suburbs are equal. In my suburb Comcast is the only name in town and you won’t get 100Mbps for $60, this is a welcome option.

Lol I’m in the middle of LA but my building gets either At&T DSL speed (which is a joke) or Spectrum which offers max 100mb in download, but need someone to come install it, get an appointment and all that jazz. I’ve been using T-Mobile home internet for a couple months and love it. It’s definitely the future (beside fiber).
I live in LA too, spectrum offers gig service it just doesnt advertise it. Call them up and get it installed it's fast as hell. All this tech is very exciting starlink 5G LTE. People complaining about $60 for a connection like this? Lol come on that's very fair for what it is. We are lucky to have 1 gig service because if we didn't we would be stuck with crap DSL with caps (yes I just looked into this att caps it's CRAP DSL (sub 10mbit) in los angeles rofl I use to have it 10 years ago with no caps for $15) that isnt worth $5 a month to me. I would pay $60 for Tmobile glady.
