Ok thanks. I am going to try ordering a couple of sims from them and see how it goes. Makes me a little nervous that they are asking for my CC# for a free order but I guess I will find out in a few days!
Sigh...well at least I know there is hope since people like you are still trying to help ungrateful entitled people to understand. But honestly I think we're just talking to walls here. I give up - preparing for the end of civilization now lol.
All jokes aside, I wonder every day how some people get through life without being able to understand simple concepts like this. Or even the ones blindly sticking by AT&T's (or god forbid Sprint's) side as they continue to rob them and keeps bashing on Tmobile when they're actually trying to make a difference in the wireless industry.
So I'm ordering a sim online right now, they are free.
US-sold iPads are factory unlocked. Are the iPads sim locked to the carrier? T-Mobile and/or AT&T's?
Tmobile does not have contracts. What are you referring to? And what exactly are they notorious for?![]()
Are the iPads sim locked to the carrier? T-Mobile and/or AT&T's?
Where did you find that at?
US-sold iPads are factory unlocked.
I'm an existing t-mobile customer - and was going to do this - just in case I needed to get a different carrier's cellular model when I get a retina mini later this month.
For the life of me - I can't add one to my cart when I'm signed in - If I'm signed in and search for the accessory, it ignores my account information when I try to add the sim to my cart.
I give up. T-Mobile could be earning a lot more good will with this offer - yet they seem to be trying hard to screw it up.
Isn't the key word here "customers" in the press release? They said customers could expect 0% financing and free 200MB data for life. If you don't have a plan with them, you are not a customer.
TMobile isn't a bank. They are not just going to finance anyone that walks in off the street and on top of that, give them free data to boot.
I don't see how people can't understand this.
I'm not angry at all. Yes, they promoted it as free, but one has to stop and think, what's the catch? Why aren't other carriers doing this? And saying they're greedy is not enough of an answer. Every other carrier charges some kind of monthly fee for the ipad if you're financing it (whether they are giving free data or not). The point was everyone heard the words free data and didn't want to hear anything else even though it was common business sense that something else is going on there that is NOT completely advertised.
How is TMO making money if they are just giving away data to anyone with an iPad (some not bought from them by the way), or people financing the ipad knowing they can pay it off whenever?
I don't think anyone was feeling "entitled" to anything or expecting anything for free until T-Mobile kept pushing press releases and tweets like this:
via @TMobile
"We have unleashed TABLETS! No strings attached, no commitments, no 2yr service contracts, 200MB FREE 4G data current customer or not!"
US-sold iPads are factory unlocked.
Are you not a customer the moment you buy the iPad?
If you take the AT&T's 100$ discount offer, you are locked to 2-year contract for their data plan. Thanks, I was actually thinking of buying the iPad mini retina on T-Mobile before I found out about the extra $10 a month. I will probably end up getting it on AT&T now, if they give the $100 discount up front.
I was thinking of "financing it" through T-Mobile's plan and using AT&T data, but I guess it will be all AT&T for me.
I just got the free 200 MB plan.
I "purchased" a nano sim off of the tmobile website a couple months ago. The sim price was free with free shipping, so purchased isn't really the right word
I powered off my ipad 3, then I took the ATT sim out and replaced it with the tmobile sim. I then booted the ipad and turned on cellular data. The ipad auto recognized my tmobile sim. I didn't know what to do next so I opened up safari. I was immediately taken to a tmobile registration page where I was asked for my name, date of birth, zip code, email address, and a password and pin for the account. I put in all the info and submitted the form.
Poof, a couple seconds later I got a confirmation screen with my mobile number (don't know what that is about) and a confirmation that my sim is enrolled in the free 200mb plan.
I'm posting this note on tmobile cellular. In my town, unfortunately, we don't have LTE, so the status bar reads 3G. But hey, it's free!
So, you don't need a 10$ plan, if you own your device. Just put in a sim and go! cool!
If you take the AT&T's 100$ discount offer, you are locked to 2-year contract for their data plan.
Though it's missing the fact that you need to be ON a contract to get that particular deal. They weren't exactly lying. They don't have "2 year contracts" and it's free for anyone that already has phone service with them or a fully paid tablet. It's (purposeful?) bad wording at best... not bait and switch. It's like "politician speak".
No. You're an Apple customer. You're a T-Mobile customer when you open an account with them.
What I wonder is has anyone said anything to TMO about their misleading ad and what their response is. I've been googling all morning and I guess it's not that big of a stink yet...
Intentional "bad wording" in a press release and repeated advertisements thereafter is considered "bait and switch".
Basically, they announced one thing, and they aren't offering it.
Granted, people shouldn't be "pissed". But it's disappointing for sure.
And their failure to mention the $10 extra monthly fee does fall under "lying by omission".
Please read T-Mobile's own words again: you do not need to be their customer. They specifically wrote "even non-customers".
