While this is a fantastic deal, as an Ipad 4 owner, I am still not sold on even this justifying me upgrading. My Ipad 4 suits me just fine, though the lighter weight would be awesome....

And now you can have free 200MB/month Cellular data from t-mobile on your iPad 4 as well. This is exactly what I did with my iPad 3.

What is not to like about this fantastic deal?

So I'm confused now. I'm not a T-Mobile customer, from the CEO's tweet it sounds like all I get is only one month of free 200MB data, and after that first month it will go back to normal prices? Is that correct?

I hate to say it but I smell a lawsuit considering apple's website clearly says 200mb/month free.

It is free beyond the 1st month. Since there is no contract, it only shows 1 month at a time. If you use T-mobile for other accounts, you can see that it shows up the same way for your paid accounts as well.

The free 200Mb a month is free for life. I do not understand how some of you find this so confusing.

this is what was mentioned on MacRumors from T-Mobile .

the customer rep i was chatting with this morning has no clue or idea since she mentioned to me that you need to have an existing plan with them.

Just adding a data point here from my experience today. I picked up a 32GB iPad Air (Verizon Model) from the Apple Store, and promptly walked across the mall to the T-Mobile store. The reason I didn't just buy a T-Mobile iPad Air, is I wanted 100% certainty that I could also use the iPad on Verizon later on down the road.

Anyway, I asked for my free 200MB SIM card and the T-Mobile rep looked at me like I had three heads. He said he knew there was some new plan, but had no clue what the details were yet. So I told him that I'd heard others just ordered the $0.99 SIM card from the T-Mobile site, popped it in, and they were off and running. That got him on the right track, and he just sold me a SIM Starter Kit for $10 and off I went. There was no credit check, contract or anything like that. Note that the $10 is the in-store price for the SIM card, it's not any sort of a service fee, so I really am getting 200MB for free service-wise (assuming I see the 200MB renew next month lol).

Got home, popped in the SIM, went through the activation process on the iPad and everything works great. The only information I had to supply was an email and password, that's it...

One thing that through me off is that you can't log into My T-Mobile, since to register for that you need to receive a temporary password via SMS, which a data-only device can't do. You have to instead go to mim.t-mobile.com to view your account and purchase any additional data passes.

I'm happy. :)

A few people are upset because they want to finance a $629 device with no interest for 2 years and also get the free 200mb. In order to finance the device T-Mobile is requiring they sign up for a $10 plan.

If you buy it outright from Apple or T-Mobile or already have an iPad the data is 100% free.

I got it on my iPad Air no problems, it did not even require credit card info.

Actually I did the zero down in store and they required me to do the $30 plan. I knew it would eventually be corrected and bought it. Called customer service tonight and they are still clueless but at least moved me to the $20 plan. Now someday I may get the 10 or zero or just return the device or pay it off.

I bought a verizon ipad air, stuffed a T-Mobile SIM in it, disabled wifi and set up a free plan. Didn't require a credit card, but I did have to provide name, address, birth date and email.

Hotspot took about 5 minutes to show up under cellular, but I'm allowed to set up via wifi, USB, and bluetoof.

What is the speed you get?

And if you remove the sim, and go back to the cellular settings, you can then sign up for verizon service?

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else but me, but for what its worth.

So I'm an AT&T customer who bought my iPad Air this morning via Apple.

I came home set everything up and it wouldn't work. I called TMOB and while on the phone with them I reset the iPad and everything worked.

Also I didn't give them a credit card and or have a credit check run, and then when I log in to the TMOB app i see the free 200MB plan.

Well you'd remove it and put the Verizon one back in that it came with yeah. It seems to adjust the activation menu based on the installed SIM. When I first turned on the iPad with the original Verizon SIM, the activation menu took me through a Verizon process (which I just cancelled out of). Once I put the T-Mobile SIM in, the same menu now took me through the T-Mobile process, and now lets me look at me T-Mobile account info.

I had a different experience than others on here.

I got my 128gb T-Mobile this morning. Set it up without iTunes and went through the carrier setup. It asked for my information (no payment or charges), assigned me some T-Mobile number. Then it took me to a page with their plans. I chose no charge plan and I have no issues using cellular data.

Is there a reason why people are buying "Verizon", " AT&T" model iPad vs "T-Mobile" one? All iPads are unlocked so it doesn't matter which version it is. They all have The same radios to access LTE, 4G, 3G, 2G or whatever might be around. Just wanted to know if I'm missing anything.

You aren't missing anything. Pop in whatever sim you want and the APN automatically updates and everything. I got the T-Mobile version because I wanted the free data and didn't want to go get a SIM card for it. I already have service through AT&T and can get one for free. I think T-Mobile charges $10.00 for their sims.

Also, regarding the T-Mobile situation. This is one of the emails I got right after turning off my wifi and being prompted to set up my account ( name, address, email address )

I bought the Verizon one since I'll likely switch from the free 200MB on T-Mobile, to a Verizon Share Everything plan once we move my wife's phone onto Verizon. Verizon is notorious for not allowing devices to be activated unless they were sold as Verizon devices, and they have a record of the device ID. I knew T-Mobile wouldn't care, so I bought the Verizon one to keep both options on the table.

Some carriers (Verizon) make prepaid activation on a non-recognized device more difficult than others so for me, it's better to get Verizon and just swap the SIM for AT&T or T-Mobile since the latter two don't make you jump through hoops to activate.

I wonder if it is possible to activate multiple sim cards into one iPad and just swap them out once the 200 MB is up for the month.

I don't see why not. Once you swap in a SIM that has an active account associated it should just work.

EDIT: Ah, I figured you meant SIMs from different carriers. I don't think T-Mobile would let you activate multiple SIMs onto the same iPad. Though I can see people with multiple devices getting the SIMs activated and moving SIMs.

Cheers,

I'm guessing TMo limits accounts to one per iPad for obvious reasons. Someone should check to see if it works, because they seem to be prone to executional mistakes.

Buying a sim from tmobiles website says its 99 cents but under it there is a grey word that says activation fee... Is there an activation fee?? The live help person said an activation fee is 35 but is waived? How?
