The moment you turn on cellular data and enter your email account it is free for life (200MB/mo). When you buy t-mobile one, it has sim card installed, so you do not need to order one from them.

So whats all the fuss about? What you said sounds exactly like we were expecting, no?

The moment you turn on cellular data and enter your email account it is free for life (200MB/mo).

What can you actually do with 200MB of LTE data. It will run out quickly and then you are shut off unless you have at least the $10 / month plan.

Note - A poster earlier in this thread posted the documentation that shows you are cut off under the free 200MB plan when you reach 200MB (in a month) and you have to have the $10 / month 200MB plan which will instead throttle your speed when you exceed 200MB not to get cut off.

A few people are upset because they want to finance a $629 device with no interest for 2 years and also get the free 200mb. In order to finance the device T-Mobile is requiring they sign up for a $10 plan.

If you buy it outright from Apple or T-Mobile or already have an iPad the data is 100% free.

I got it on my iPad Air no problems, it did not even require credit card info.

for those who have the new air with the free tmobile 200megs does it let you activate mobile hotspot?

I bought a verizon ipad air, stuffed a T-Mobile SIM in it, disabled wifi and set up a free plan. Didn't require a credit card, but I did have to provide name, address, birth date and email.

Hotspot took about 5 minutes to show up under cellular, but I'm allowed to set up via wifi, USB, and bluetoof.

Tmobile does not have contracts. What are you referring to? And what exactly are they notorious for?

T-Mobile does have contracts. If they charge you monthly for a phone and you have to pay in full if you leave then that's a contract. At least one state has forced them to stop saying they have no contracts.

I don't care about $10 some are upset with the deceptive way this is marketed by T-Mobile. They have a point.

Since you bought the iPad through Apple, all you need is to get a T-mobile sim (free), and register (free), and then you can have your 200MB per month free. Why do you need to tether?

He said wifi version.

The fuss is about free data plan for "all" tablets, not only iPads bought from t-mobile directly. I really like that offer, but did not want to buy a new iPad, my iPad 3 is satisfactory. With data plan free for any tablet, I can still keep my old one and enjoy free 200MB/month access from t-mobile.

Is there an "Activation fee" (as seen in pic)? I asked the rep about that. If I order the sim for 99 cents with my credit card will I be seeing unexpected charges on my next statement?

My live-chat with service rep:
You: I'm on the purchase page for a mobile broadband micro sim. It says it's 0.99 cents but under "Fees: Activation fee - This one time charge will appear on your first monthly billing statement"
You: I just want the sim for 99 cents am I going to be charged for something else?
J: Yes, the activation is also waived so you can save $35 if you order a service here online today!
J: Before we continue, may I please ask if you are an existing T-Mobile customer?
You: so the sim isn't actually just 99 cents there's more to it when I order?
J: Please note that in order to use the sim card, you are to activate it. Don't worry! Activation is waived so there is no need for you to pay.
J: Please note that if you only want to order the micro sim card for your iPad, you need to order the sim card under prepaid service.
J: The free 200 MB is for cusomer who would order the On Demand plan for $10/month before taxes, You would be able to add it once you already activated the sim card.
You: So it's actually 10 a month for 200mb?
J: The basic mobile broadband plan that we have is the 500MB for $20/month. However, if you are currently using data less than 500MB our On Demand would be a great option. The On Demand plan does not have an included data plan amount but it will keep your service active and lets you choose any daily or weekly data passes as needed. In addition, not only we offer the free 200MB to any of our standard mobile broadband plans starting from 500MB we also give you the 200MB data plan by simply having our On Demand plan.
J: Do you have any other questions before we proceed with the order process for the sim card?

Legere responded

John Legere (CEO of T-Mobile) just tweeted the following:

Yes. Everyone gets the 200MB of free data. No exceptions. No strings attached.

The $10 per mo./fee written about today is incorrect. We had an executional mistake that we will make right

So something went wrong it appears. I wonder how they will fix and how long it will take

I just bought a iPad Air from Best Buy 16GB SG at&t. I removed the sim card from the iPad before booting and inserted a tmobile nano sim I ordered earlier this week for 99 cents. I opened Safari and it informed me that I do not have an account setup. I setup an account and now I have a 200 MB of free data. No credit card was needed.

Wow interesting line of thought?

What about this posted with big font size on t-mobile web site?
Tablets Un-leashed
Get FREE 4G LTE data every month for life
Bring a tablet you already own to T-Mobile and get 200 MB FREE data every month. Simply activate a Mobile Internet account. No annual service contract.

http://www.t-mobile.com/landing/bring-your-own-tablet.html?AID=11031750&PID=227502

Hm, it is actually for everyone with compatible tablet.

Yes... it's for any tablet... I bought a SIM card and I could have stuck it in any old tablet that takes GSM. I'm not sure what you're getting at...

It's free 200mb of LTE tablet for as long as I don't cancel my account.

I'm printing out his tweets and purchasing now.

still won't take off the $10 if u try to finance. as stated before the free data is for already purchased iPads in full or if ur a voice customer of theirs already

I'm at the store, the store manager saw the tweets and said yes its absolutely free you just can't finance the iPad without a 10$ plan. you still get 200mb "free" but ur paying to have that data by financing the iPad.

...But that's the only path that forces the $10 plan. So if Legere says the fee of $10 a month was an "executional mistake that we will make right", wouldnt that have to change for that circumstance? Something has to give if he is saying something isn't being done right.

Store Manager vs. CEO

I'll take the CEO every time.

Not sure how many threads we need on this same issue and why people need to work on reading comprehension skills.

Ask tmobile this question on twitter finally got a answer.

u do have to sign a data plan first and later on change it after to activate you pad

I bought mines from Apple, 128gb model. I went and registered with T-mobile and got the free 250.

to add, I bought the box that was the tmobile sim inside.

I activated my new T-mobile account using the ipad cellular configurator. I have not been a t-mobile user in the past.

so it seems its true, it worked for me it did not even ask for a credit card etc..
