T-Mobile Offering Free 32GB iPhone 7 During Pre-Order With Trade-In

Yes, you do have to switch to the new T-Mobile One plan and trade in the phone to get this deal.

Much confusion. I just hung up with T-Mobile was told we can upgrade while keeping the Simple Choice plan we are on.

I wish they would make this clear on their site.

How come we're seeing conflicted reports of whether you will need to switch to One on Reddit/twitter/other sources?

T-Force confirmed that you do NOT have to be on the T-Mobile ONE plan. You can keep your existing plan and use this offer.

Correct. I was on the phone with a TMO rep earlier today. I qualify and am currently on a promotional Simple Choice family plan.

DirecTV has 6 different dish sizes. The largest being 36" x 22".

They will be able to provide you with one that meets your HOA guidelines.

Unfortunately, they can't get me a clear view of the satellite. My HOA has no issue with dishes, in fact a number of homes have them; I was merely pointing out that the FCC rules only apply to small dishes (except for Alaska) so some dishes could be banned legally.

I agree wholeheartedly. Why doesn't T-Mobile simply post the terms and conditions? Perhaps that will happen tomorrow when the deal goes live. Until then, we're left to guess about the details.

I received the same info from @TMobileHelp...

This is great news. I have a brand new iPhone 6, recently returned to me from Apple Care. And I am on the t-mobile One plan (which, after a week, I can tell you tethering is actually pretty reasonable). I will absolutely not hesitate on this!

Hi,

Why do they say that "customers will have paid nothing" when you're paying for a monthly bill credit?

Can someone explain that?

So where and how will the preordeeing work? We preorder tonight online on Apple website or T-Mobile website or do we have to Preorder in a tmo shop tomorrow ? When do we give them our current iPhone 6/6s and do they ship the new 7 orbit will be a pick up? So confusing on how it will work ... :(

You will be charged, monthly, for the cost of the phone and T-Mobile will issue you a monthly credit to cover the cost of the phone.

As long as you stay with T-mobile for 24 months after acquiring the free iPhone 7. you don't have to pay for it.

Even then, it's not really free. The trade-in phone has residual value ($170 or more), which the customer gives up. This still may be a good deal. But the phone is not free.
[doublepost=1473362693][/doublepost]I'd love to see confirmation of this sentence from the article:

"Customers can walk away at any time by either paying their outstanding phone balance or turning in their iPhone 7." (Emphasis added) If so, this is a very low-risk deal.

You are correct about the residual value. T-Mobile applies a monthly credit against the cost of the phone (which doesn't cover the entire cost by the way) with the residual value of your trade-in covering the remaining balance.

With respect to you final comment, that is factual. I've chatted with a T-Mobile rep and with their Twitter help-desk and they've both confirmed that. You can pay it off (at full price) and the phone is yours, assuming you don't complete the 24 months.

I wonder if the 5c qualifies as well. Tried to find live chat on TM website but it is blank
I talked to them via app on my iPhone, and it took them about 30 minutes to respond which is fine as I imagine how busy they are right now.

Supposedly, there is a T-Mobile worker on this site who also confirmed that you have to change to that plan.

That's not accurate. I've confirmed it with T-Mobile. You don't need to switch to a One plan.

I wonder if this includes 128 GB 7 Plus models? At an additional cost on top of the $120, obviously.

Yes. I think the cost is $220 for that option.

Are t mobile phones sold unlocked?

Not from T-Mobile. They are locked. Can't unlock until you pay it in full and keep it active on the account for 40 days.

I have the same plan. Can anyone can confirm if we can upgrade as well?

Doubtful since this is pretty much a "contract". As your tied for 2 years for the bill credits.

I called in and the T-Mobile rep said we needed to have the One plan but he might be wrong.

So how does the One Plan differ for those of us currently on an unlimited plan? I have 4 phones on that and am considering using a paid off 6 to get a 7 (The others just got new 6s so the economics don't add up).

The One plan has Binge On enabled and it costs 25 per line for the HD streaming service.

Correct.

The funny this is they removed the 2 year contract because everyone hated them and now they are locking people into 2 year contracts through financing.
