iPad Air @ T-mobile

I went to my local T-mobile store today in order to investigate what might be on Friday. Guess what? here in Greater Hartford, CT at the largest Mall, the T-Mobile store is scheduled to receive four (4) iPad Airs for Friday. So, there go my hopes to get an iPad mini I the near future? Additionally, the staff has little experience, and/or training as they have never sold iPads. I also learned, unless you purchase your iPhone from T-mobile your unlocked phone will not be able to receive the 4G/LTE network. My old 3GS can only receive the 2G and E network.

Not true. My Verizion 5s works fine on 4G and LTE.

To be clear: Your unlocked phone is not guaranteed to work on the T-MOBILE network unless you bought it from T-mobile? Why would you use a brand new Verizon 5S on T- mobile?

It's unlocked. I can use it on any Verizion, Att or T-Mobile based carrier. So if I want to change carriers I am free to. Buy an Att or T-Mobile version you won't have any option to chose Verizion and have to be concerned with getting it unlocked. It is the same phone for all three carriers, except for the sim and the Verizion phone has the programing to be used on their cdma network.

Frankly, I don't see much point in asking clueless chat reps regarding the new plans. They'll likely be given a new script Friday.

Exactly. Call center workers are typically the LAST to know about anything. If they're lucky they'll be notified of the change the day before; usually though it's at the beginning of the shift.

Yep, this is what makes Verizon phones easy to sell. And preferable to own.

Taxes!!!!

You know when you get cellular service, you must get a phone number associated with that line. Even for tablets. When a phone(Cell) number is opened on the iPad, you will have to pay taxes and fees on it. Take a look at your bills. Each lines has fees and taxes added to it. No different here. Free 200mb's is correct but there will be taxes and fees associated with this. Our Govt would never miss the opportunity to get their share.

No taxes on these free data only services.

And even if there are fees the carrier must pay the carrier does not have to pass those fees to the customer. So far T-Mobile has never charged for the free 200MB I have on my laptop

Cheers,

On prepaid, it's already usually part of the advertised fee. They don't charge extra. For example, on Verizon, if you get the $50 5GB data plan on prepaid, that's exactly what you pay. If you get the Share Everything $40 4GB data plan ($30 base + $10 line access), you pay $40+tax. Yet another way postpaid customers get screwed.

Same with pay-as-you-go from T-Mobile. It's $100 for 1000 minutes. You don't pay extra for taxes.

My T-Mobile said they have no idea how many iPads they'll get since they haven't received their shipment. I'll probably just order online.

Dude there's multiple threads proving that the verizon 5s is gsm unlocked and supports all of tmobile/AT&T bands including lte bands.

And many links to the Apple site where they list the same model number with the carriers in U.S. and elsewhere that each model handles.

No. Speaking from experience, you are wrong.

Phone numbers are not taxed. Phone service is taxed. I have been using a data-only DSL service for years that has a phone number but no line. No phone-related taxes and fees are applied.

More relevant to this topic, I've also been using free 4G for over a year now, and there are no Federal taxes and fees on the free data services.

I've gotten conflicting answers. What time does the iPad go on sale on the East coast in the US? Is it 12am or 3am? Also is that time for ATT/Verizon/Tmobile as well or just the Apple store?

Imspoke to two tch reps yesterday at T-mobile? Both confirmed that other carrier's iPhones will not necessarily operate on the T-mobile 4G network. I would like to hear some anecdotal evidence.

It is 12am Pacific Time. So on the east coast, 3am. I'm just curious if that includes T-mobile's site as well.

This is just one of several threads on this. Also earlier it was stated the apple website shows the same.

An AT&T or tmobile 5s unlocked will work on gsm networks but not Verizon's because they won't activate a phone that's not native to them. However, a verizon 5s is gsm unlocked already, so it will support verizon, or any of the gsm networks. You can search the iPhone su forum and there's proof everywhere that its true

Okay so I'm wondering whether going for this plan can negatively effect credit. Basically I'm a first year college student with no credit. If I go for the tmobile plan will it be bad for my credit in the future?

Well, I just called my local T-Mobile (5 minutes from home). She said that they will be selling them in-store tomorrow, but wouldn't give any other details. I'm going to assume that I have a good shot at getting one (I'll pretty much take any capacity if I don't have to pay full price immediately). The store opens at 10 and there is a Starbucks next door, so I'll go down there and keep my eyes open, unless I can actually order it tonight.

I'm hoping my strategy doesn't backfire, but I think I'll be able to get one tomorrow with minimal stress.

It will be bad only if you don't pay the bill.

I reckon it might actually be a good way to establish credit as long as you pay your bill on time.
