I am very interested in the 128gb tmobile ipad air, but i only want to pay the installment plan for 24 months. does anybody have any definitive answer on whether they are selling the 128gb at tmobile stores and if there will be an installment plan for them? 32 is $99 extra and 64 is $199 extra so i'm assuming 128gb is $299 extra? i'd love to know if anybody has a more definite answer. thanks for reading

To be more accurate, 32GB is $100 extra, 64GB $200 extra and 128GB $300 extra. You might not be able to finance the whole cost, though. If getting the 128GB model, I'd count on having to pay at least the $300 upfront.

128gb model @ 24 payments

yes sorry, that's what i meant - paying $300 upfront for the 128gb and then 24 installments for the rest. Tmobile isn't giving me any answer as to whether they will even have any 128gb ipads in the store. that's why i'm inquiring if anybody knows for sure if there will be 128gb ipad in the tmobile store.

thanks!

Unless you feel like you absolutely, positively must have it in your hands on release day, you could always try ordering via T-Mobile's website. Chances are even if they don't have a 128GB model available in-store, they'll probably offer it on their website.

One more anecdote to add to the mix:

I stopped by at a local T-Mobile store to confirm details of their offer. I told the sales person that I have no T-Mobile accounts. First, she confirmed that the 200MB free is real -- they only need to do a credit check and you can get a device with installment payments for the device only. She did try to upsell to a higher plan (only doing her job. After all, she is a sales person), but did say that the free 200MB is real.

She also told me that they will be opening at 8am on Friday and will have a "limited" number of iPad Airs in stock. When I pressed her on specific models (I'm interested in 32GB), she went in back and checked with her boss. She said that she didn't know for sure, but they typically get 16GB devices in the store, so larger sizes may have to be ordered via the web.

Kudos to that store for actually having informed employees. :)

You can get the SIM kits for free with free shipping on T-Mobile's website.

I believe you bought the SIM for the iPhone, not the iPad. The iPad SIM would be the broadband device only SIM.

Also here is a thread on the T-Mobile site and the question answered by a T-Mobile Specialist.

T-Mobile said:
...You will need a Tmo SIM in the device and there will be an on screen prompt to set up an account with us. Once set up you will get 200MB of data for free monthly. There are also going to be data passes available so that if you go heavy on month you can ramp it up quickly. This all goes live on November 1, so there will be a lot more information for you guys to take a look at...

This is MacRumors, we thrive on rumors and speculation. How dare you go to the vendor's website for an actual answer! :D

+1

So if you do not fit the requirements below (not T-Mobile customer) you will not get 200MB free data.

In order to get the 200 MB of free Starter Data, you need to have an active Mobile Internet account with T-Mobile.

If you are a postpaid customer, you’ll need to have an On Demand data plan at minimum which is $0/mo. if you are a voice customer (after $10 line credit).

So if you do not fit the requirements below (not T-Mobile customer) you will not get 200MB free data.
Did you miss this whole paragraph?

"If you are a prepaid customer, you’ll need to activate a prepaid account. You do not have to a purchase data pass in order to access your free Starter Data. T-Mobile does not require an annual service contract."

Question:
If you order a T-Mobile iPad Air/Mini from Apple at list price and you are not a T-Mobile Customer, can you use the 200MB free per month? It does not appear to be the case?

Oh, hey, that's also answered in the link.

If I have my own tablet, can I get the free Starter Data?

Yes, if you have your own tablet and it’s eligible for Mobile Internet data, you are eligible for the free data. Most popular tablets that are compatible with T-Mobile’s network are eligible.

What about this? It sounds like you need some sort of a contract or basic plan on T-Mobile to get the 200MB.

What happens if I deactivate service on my tablet?
You can still get your 200MB of free data each month without being on a paid plan. If you deactivate your line altogether, you will no longer be connected to the T-Mobile network and will not be able to get your free data each month.

Earlier in this thread: nolegirl@ posted:

So, according to this article http://bayintegratedmarketing.wordp...-to-entice-customers-free-4g-lte-for-tablets/ you DO have to have some kind of plan to get the free data and ipad EIP. What caught my attention was this quote "The free 200mb will be applied automatically to existing T-Mobile customers’ accounts if they have tablets registered with the company. New customers can sign up for a $20-per-month Mobile Internet account, and then be eligible for the deal, Legere said."

According to what a TMO rep told me yesterday (I also posted our chat in this thread a few pages back), a data plan is required in order to get the 200mb for life. Meaning the total monthly cost would be the EIP for the ipad (whatever size you get), PLUS the monthly cost of the data plan. Their cheapest plan is $20 per month for 500mb for NEW customers. The 200mb gets added to that. Again, this is what she told me, if she is lying, or doesn't know what she is talking about, I don't know, but it makes sense to me...

Again, not a contract, just an account (and not even a paid one). The line saying deactivating your line altogether means deactivating the SIM card (which you might do if, say, you sell the iPad). Otherwise, as long as you don't delete the account, you can enjoy the 200MB free data.

Please read here and also here is the T-Mobile link. I bet the T-Moblie Specialist doesn't say something unless they are sure since it is out for everyone to see. The data will be free with NO charges according to the T-Moblie Specialist.

The 200mb is free. No contract. No nothing.

Why do people keep trying to insist on this?

Based on what many people here are saying is that:

Sign up for a paid data plan, and t-mo will give you 200MB free.

Hello? Any logic left in America?

Here is another transcript from a chat I just had. I don't know how this could be any more clear.

T-Mobile: We have received your information and will connect you with a T-Mobile Chat Specialist soon.
Jennifer: Thank you for visiting T-Mobile today! How may I help you?
You: Hello. I am not a current customer, but am inquiring about your new free for life 200mb plan launching on 11/1/13
You: I am looking to purchase the new iPad Air which also launches on 11/1/13 under your EIP plan, which according to your press release will cost $26 monthly.
Jennifer: That’s good to hear that you are interested in our iPad Air/iPad Mini. As of this time, the price of the device is unavailable but the good news is, you can Pre-register online. You would need to fill-out a form with your contact information and a valid email address. Once you've completed the registration, we'll send you an email as soon as the phone is available and ready to order. This is not a guarantee that you will be given a priority with your order if you register online. It is just an email notification that the phone is available to order.
You: I've already completed pre registration but was wondering if there will be any additional MONTHLY charges that come with the $26 monthly installment plan? Like do I need to pay anything else monthly in order to get the free 200mb?
You: I'm aware there will be a credit check, which is fine. I just want to know do I need some sort of plan in order to qualify for the free 200mb?
Jennifer: In order to get the 200 MB of free Starter Data, you need to have an active Mobile Internet account with T-Mobile.
You: Is there a monthly cost for an active mobile internet account?
Jennifer: There are several options to choose from depending on your data usage needs. We offer 500MB a month for $20, 2GB for $30, 4GB for $40, 6GB for $50, 8GB for $60, 10GB for $70, and 12GB for $80 a month.
You: The way I am understanding this, is all I need to do is pass a credit check, pay monthly installments on the iPad Air, and I get 200mb of data for free, without paying ANYTHING else, other than the $26 for the ipad.
You: That's why I'm asking, do I have to pay for a mobile internet account monthly?
Jennifer: Aside from the monthly cost of the device you will also be paying the monthly cost of the plan so you can get the free 200MB.
Jennifer: Letting you know, I am still here for you. Can I answer any questions you have?
You: So, that means that on Friday, 11/1/13, when I go to pick up the ipad Air, I will have to sign up for a mobile internet account, which according to your post, is a minimum of $20 per MONTH? Meaning, my total cost MONTHLY will be $26 for the iPad Air, AND $20 for the 500mb plan (minimum), for a total cost of around $46 monthly for 24 months. And I get the 200mb for free on top of the 500mb?
Jennifer: Yes that is correct! You will be paying $46 a month for the plan and the device and you will get the free 200MB in top of the 500MB high speed data of the plan.
You: And if I pay off the ipad in, say, 6 months and I don't want the 500mb plan any more, will I still get the 200mb?
Jennifer: You can have the free 200MB as long as the plan and the account is still active.
Jennifer: I haven't heard from you recently, how are things coming along?
You: Meaning, if I pay off the ipad, and still paying for the plan?
You: The monthly $20 for the 500mb?
Jennifer: Yes that is correct! Once the device is paid off, your monthly bill will be lowered to $20, in which it is the monthly cost of the plan.
You: OK, you've answered all my questions. Thanks so much!
Jennifer: You are most welcome. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
You: No, thanks, you've been helpful
Jennifer: You are most welcome, my pleasure to assist you.
Jennifer: Please feel free to chat with us again should you have additional questions.
Jennifer: Thank you for visiting T-Mobile.com today.

I'm aware there is no contract, I just wanted to know for sure if all I would be paying monthly is just the $26 for the ipad, or that AND something else. I'm being told you do need a plan.

Frankly, I don't see much point in asking clueless chat reps regarding the new plans. They'll likely be given a new script Friday. For now, though, the $20 for 500MB, etc is the script they have.

Regarding the 200MB/month free plan, the Apple site (http://store.apple.com/us/buy-ipad/ipad-air) is pretty clear on this. Although this assumes that you buy the iPad from Apple, I'm sure that TMO would provide the same plan options if you purchased the iPad from TMO (regardless of whether you're using their payment plan).
