Yes it is. They are just going to make sure they get their 24 months worth of interest free payments for the iPad itself before you're allowed to jump ship is all, which makes perfect .

Sounds good to me. I wouldn't want to jump ship from free!

the deal seems pretty good but I don't know if I want another cellular model as I have a ipad 3 Verizon model and it has the hotspot capability which is one reason I didn't go with AT&T. Does Tmobile have this as well?

all ipads are unlocked. there's no locked ipad as they're contract-free

True but I am still not sure because due to the fact tmobile iphone 5/5s are locked and will unlock them once you paid the unit off. So I am guessing it could go the same way with the ipads with payment for 24 months.

Who cares if it's lock to tmobile, I was planning to use it mostly on wifi anyway. The added 200mb is sweet though

Well some people like me that travel! We care because we get to use other LTE/3G/4G around the world, and not stuck in the same place using wifi or only use 200mb of tmobile LTE when you go to walmart bro.

I don't think they'd unlock the ipad until it's paid off, as they unlocked my iPhone 5 after 60 days (bought outright).

I think they just want the chance at fees - so they want their sim card in there. 200 MB a month for free gives them lots of potential customers. Pretty smart on their part.

----------

Exactly... And I'm sure they're happy to supply service for those who go over - total soft sell, and they lock out the competition because people don't want to replace sim cards...

----------

Spoken like a true North American wireless customer! A simple win-win, no-nonsense service is like a blessing :)

I'm a tmobile customer (about 6 months). They're cheaper and no strings attached. Their negative issue is coverage area...

Yeap I was thinking the same, but I hope I am wrong and they do not apply the lock policy to the ipad not being paid off.

Now I just need to get my iPad 3 sold and then add a line! Ive already got an iPhone 5 with Tmobile. Hopefully I wont have to pay a deposit on the iPad Air.

I called t-mobile today to see if I would need a deposit etc... I already have a family plan with AT&T, but the spread out payments with 0% as well as the free 200mb is just too good.

They couldn't give me a straight answer being it's not out yet. She said to try back in a couple days. They said I was approved but couldn't tell me if I needed a deposit at all.

I currently have a ipad 3, thinking about getting the Air if I can get it even if I need a small down payment. I would sell my 3 in that case. I was gonna pass on the iPad Air being I have $500 tied up in my Xbox One for November, & we'll I can't have it all the GF says... :D

I wonder if there will be any lines at my local t mobile on November 1st.

The cellular is a little heavier 1.05lbs and has a smaller batter wonder how the battery life will be

OP missed a few things from here...

Additional Pricing and Availability Information:

T-Mobile will offer iPad Air at an introductory price of $99.99 down for the 32 GB model and $199.99 down for the 64 GB model, each with equal monthly payments of $26.25*. iPad mini with Retina display will be available at an introductory price of $99.99 down for the 32 GB model and $199.99 down for the 64 GB model, each with equal monthly payments of $22.08*. iPad Air and iPad mini will be available on Nov. 1, and iPad mini with Retina display will be available later in November.

Also from that page, something I don't get...

"For T-Mobile voice customers, 'always-on' iPad plans start at just $10 a month for unlimited data including 500 MB of 4G LTE data each month."

What the heck is "unlimited data including 500mb of 4G LTE data"? Is it unlimited 3G and 500mb of LTE? EDGE? WAP? This makes no sense.

Besides the hard inquiry being done on a credit report, I wonder if this will turn into some type of credit line/ credit file because of the payment. Hopefully this isn't the case.

The specs on the apple site list a 9 gram difference in weight and the same watts for the battery. So, where are you getting the notion that the battery is different?

200 man free is great, but in my opinion the interest free financing is amazing. Does anyone know if you are able to make higher payments and pay for the iPad earlier than 24 months?

I think I found the answer. Looks like you can always make extra payments. This is a no brainier deal.

Yup. Especially considering if you pay it off in 12 months and then sell for $400 you can reup for the next model and have some $$$ left over.

Unlimited EDGE which is just awful...

How does that work? If you're in an LTE area, you get 500mb, then you're throttled to edge speeds?

Yep. That's the basic bottom end $20/mo plan. With EDGE you'd still get email and notifications and such, so fine for low data users who maybe hit the limit a couple days before month end.

Add $10/month and it's 2.5GB before throttle.

Keep adding $10/month for an additional 2GB; $40/mo for 4.5GB, $50/mo for 6.5GB, $60/mo for 8.5GB, etc.

Someone said that Airs purchased direct from Apple get the same deal but I don't see how that would work.
If you buy it from T-Mobile then they're the ones collecting the money every month but if you buy it from Apple you pay one lump sum to Apple and T-Mobile gets nothing.
What am I missing?

What if I buy the iPad from an other retailer?
Can I still take it into T-Mobile and just get a free SIM with 200MB free every month?

The sim is $10 unless you catch one of the 99cent online sales. You can also get the same deal with you existing iPad.

It's the free sample to get you hooked to buy a plan later.

Exactly. It's the teaser to get people to put a TMO sim in their ipad or choose a TMO iPad at purchase. Then when (if) they use up the 200MB they just take the easy road of buying more data from TMO.

Plus it's a great potential gateway where someone gets familiar with using TMO for data, they may then consider TMO for their phone.

Tmo has said ALL Tablets, no matter how old, how new, where you get them as long as compatible with their network, can have the free data.

Tmobile is smart. I will be selling my iPad 3 and getting the iPad Air with Tmobile...

I will TRY my best to live with their free 200mB of LTE ;)

Who wants to bet that come Nov 1st, Tmobile will be sold out within hours?:D

Tmobile is hoping people will not stop at 200MB and start add more Data to their ipad. Great move here by Tmobile imho

Oh yea, I know that...Many will probably be able to live with just the 200mB if they have WIFI everywhere they go (me). 200mB will come in handy when I NEED to check something while away from WIFI, or when my WIFI goes out (all the time).

And best of all, if I go somewhere where I dont trust their WIFI (on a trip) I can buy a 1 week pass 1Gb. Pretty dang good!

To get at t-mobile on launch day w/ interest free payment plan do you have to do it at a t-mobile store? Will they even have stick on nov 1? Did carriers have stock for 5s on launch?

You should wait for the Pro.
