After seeing the price of the Retina mini, I wrote it off, but this changes things. If you consider what you're getting for free, the 200mb, even if you say is worth maybe $5 (no one else is handing out free data plans), you're already looking at a $120 value over two years. So that $630 32gb mini could be thought of as being more like $510, less than a wifi only model after tax. Throw in a dirt cheap interest free payment plan.

This is pretty awesome. I might get a new mini after all.

More like - $10 value per month

So, in essence, what would be the better deal? I currently have an AT&T family share plan with two iPhones. I would like to upgrade my ipad 2 to the Air using the Next plan on AT&T which is essentially the same as T Mobile's 0% interest plan.
I'm aware that AT&T isn't offering the free data but wouldn't it just be cheaper to tether using the $10 add a tablet thing? I don't know, I'm trying to work this out and I'm getting more confused than anything.

And interest free loan. Anyone have experience with t-mobile ordering? On launch day do I go to their website at 12pst or do I have to got to a store?

Interest free loan?!? Did you pass middle school math?
$26.25 x 24 months = $630
Ipad air retails for $500

Therefore you are paying $130 in interest!!
Sheesh, no wonder people get conned into charging everything.

You should wait for the Pro.

No, better to wait for the New Pro. It'll be much better than the Pro.

(you're seriously suggesting waiting for a theoretical device that might or might not be released a some indeterminate point in the future?)

not sure if you're being funny but the wifi only version is $500. the cellular data version is $630. they're different devices.

Oops, my bad, it's just early in the morning and I never considered buying the cellular version until t mobile came out with the free 200 MB plans so I had $500 in my head. I'm kind of surprised T mobile is doing this. Free data usage AND free financing of an ipad? Although I would just buy mine outright--I hate monthly bills. I guess they are putting all that AT&T money to good use! Mini would be slightly more portable but I think I'm going for a t mobile ipad air.

What's the best way to order this since likely TMO will probably sell out online quickly. Also, have to keep in mind the credit check and all that which also takes time. How can yo ensure you get one if ordering online on the 1st?

Like all Apple product releases, the best way to get one as soon as possible is to order as soon as the product becomes available online.

So, then TMO will allow credit checks to be done online while getting the tablet? Excuse the "noobness" so to speak, I'm new to all this but I would really like to get one if I can and want to be prepared.

Yes. They ask for your social and birthday during the order process and you'll have to give them permission to run your credit.

Exactly. It's the teaser to get people to put a TMO sim in their ipad or choose a TMO iPad at purchase. Then when (if) they use up the 200MB they just take the easy road of buying more data from TMO.

Plus it's a great potential gateway where someone gets familiar with using TMO for data, they may then consider TMO for their phone.

Actually, while I am technically not in the market for a new iPad, this would indeed be a great way to test their coverage. I am contract free of any cell service today. I've considered TMO because of the savings. I find paying $97 a month for VZW unlimited data & 450 month voice to be an ass raping. TMO will save me money but if their coverage is **** then it is not worth the savings.

Sounds great but where's the 128GB model? Their press release only mentions 16, 32, and 64. 128 or deal breaker for me.

Luckily for you, you can walk into any Apple store that has stock and buy the 128 GB model. Then, as I read it, you can get the TMO plan so long as you stick their SIM card in the device.
No 128 GB from TMO no buy? Fine, but you have options outside of TMO.

if all cell networks work on these new ipads how do they know if its on t mobile or not ? i can walk up to a tmobile for a free sim card and just start getting free data ? thats weird

T-Mobile sims are $10, unless you catch them on the .99cent sale or a sales person at a store takes pity on you.

I'll get a 128GB regardless but was planning on the wifi model. If I could get it with 24 monthly payments through t-mobile, that would probably change my mind and I'd get the tmobile model. As I understand, if I walk into apple store, I can't do that. That correct?

and they can be $20 in-store. Tried to get one in-store a few weeks back so I could try out TMO service on my phone and see if it was worth considering a switch.

I even complained on TMO's support forums and they confirmed the in-store pricing being different.

So I just waited for a 99-cent sale and bought a couple online.

Now it's an open question whether you can do the T-Mobile financing/payment plan and satisfy their requirements with the 200m free setup or if you have to have a $20 ($10 if you have T-Mobile voice) Simple Choice Plan.

I wouldn't be surprised if you do have to sign up for a pay plan to get the financing. Have to wait and see.

Thats why its best to assume the BEST in people rather than the worst.

No need to force you to sign up for a plan when they already got you on the hook for financing in which if you cancel the entire amount becomes due to them. I know when I did EIP on my wife iPhone 5 they required half up front per phone from me. So of course not everyone will get the $99 down offer. Even still only having to put half down is still better than dropping it all at one. I may consider considering I still have 2 of my children lines w/ them plus my iPad line.

I pay $50 per month + $20 for an IP5. I asked and was told via chat that I could add the iPad Air and just pay the $26/month for 2 years.

Looks like you have to be on SOME kind of plan. Cant just go in, agree to pay over 24 months, then leave with an iPad...They need a way to keep track of your monthly hardware payments.

T-MOBILE

If you get on EIP and stop paying they will shut you **** down with your IMEI.

You're only truly contact ...free if you buy the product out right.

However interest free loan is really really good deal.
