I'm wondering if they let you put a larger down payment down to begin with to lower your monthly payment. That I would like.

if all cell networks work on these new ipads how do they know if its on t mobile or not ? i can walk up to a tmobile for a free sim card and just start getting free data ? thats weird

T-Mobile doesn't care if your tablet came from Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or what have you as long as the hardware supports T-Mobile's network. The 200MB free data is meant as a teaser for folks who wouldn't have considered signing up with T-Mobile in the first place. If they can get you to bite on the 500MB or 1GB passes once you've used up the 200MB, then that's additional revenue they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

so i called tmobile store in nj and the guy told me i did not need anything just a credit check !

if your credit is good you can walk away with just paying tax ! he said if its not so good they will charge you a chunk of the upfront cost. then you pay the rest monthly.

thats a garantee way of getting the 200mb a month. my question is can i go to the applestore pay it all outright get like a verizon ipad , and a few days later decide oh i want to pop in a tmobile sim and start getting free 200mb ? here in central jersey they have really FAST LTE tmobile service in some spots that i usually go to, mall , business center ect

Interest free loan?!? Did you pass middle school math?
$26.25 x 24 months = $630
Ipad air retails for $500

Therefore you are paying $130 in interest!!
Sheesh, no wonder people get conned into charging everything.

Do your research before posting..........You know that there are cellular version of these ipads right?

From what I read, you do not need to purchase a plan. The plan you are set up on is the $0/mo for 200mb. That's your plan.

I think this is a great deal and a brilliant marketing strategy. Tmobile provides a benefit for their customers while encouraging them take a look at their other services. How many people who buy an iPad have a smartphone? I do and this iPad will allow me to take a look at their coverage and LTE service. My contract with AT&T is up next Sept. I have had major coverage issues with AT&T in the metropolitan area I live in. I would love to switch to Tmobile if their coverage is 90% as good as AT&T. I would imagine that their network isn't nearly as crowded in my area as AT&T. I won't be surprised if my iPad has a faster connection on Tmobile than my iPhone on AT&T. Let's face it, AT&T and Verizon cannot find enough ways to charge their customers. It's honestly out of hand.

I just spoke with chat support and they said no plan needed, just a credit check. Thinking this deal gets me to spring for both cellular and 64gb version as it's only a couple hundred up front and the rest is spread out.

Can you get more than one and still take advantage of the deal? Wanting to get one for my teenager also, if possible.

and they can be $20 in-store. Tried to get one in-store a few weeks back so I could try out TMO service on my phone and see if it was worth considering a switch.

I even complained on TMO's support forums and they confirmed the in-store pricing being different.

So I just waited for a 99-cent sale and bought a couple online.

How did you find out about the sale? Any special site you'd recommend?

Also are all iPads unlocked? Like would my AT&T iPad work with them?

Slickdeals.net is my favorite.

Note: I do not know if a prepaid phone SIM can be used with an ipad data plan.

They have been in the past, typically since there was no carrier subsidy. Can't guarantee what will happen in the future.

I don't see why not.

I have 2 iPhone 5S's on a T-mobile family plan and it says i'm eligible for 3 more voice lines and 2 data devices.

So, according to this article (http://bayintegratedmarketing.wordp...-to-entice-customers-free-4g-lte-for-tablets/) you DO have to have some kind of plan to get the free data and ipad EIP. What caught my attention was this quote "The free 200mb will be applied automatically to existing T-Mobile customers’ accounts if they have tablets registered with the company. New customers can sign up for a $20-per-month Mobile Internet account, and then be eligible for the deal, Legere said."

I thought you could just sign up for the monthly iPad Air deal (no down payment and $26.25 per month for 24 months), and just pay that monthly and nothing else? Unless, of course, you wanted more data. Please let me know if I'm reading into this wrong...

sheesh, you are wrong, there is no $130 interest, that is the price for the iPad Air w/ cellular data capabilities! No wonder you think you are being conned everyday, go back to elementary school :p

I'd like to know this as well. Was just going to get a 64 wifi but with this might as well get 64 LTE...

----------

so has anyone got any solid information on how this works? Looking to pick one up friday and don't want any surprises...

To bad it's actually not LTE it's 4G. So it's hspa +. Which in some areas isn't bad

Tmobile is smart. I will be selling my iPad 3 and getting the iPad Air with Tmobile...

I will TRY my best to live with their free 200mB of LTE ;)

Who wants to bet that come Nov 1st, Tmobile will be sold out within hours?:D

They do have LTE. They're switching the AWS 1700 band to LTE and the 1900 band to HSPA+. Very limited LTE coverage compared to Verizon and AT&T, though. T-Mobile's network is usually less congested though so if you get signal, there are times T-Mobile HSPA+ is faster than Verizon or AT&T LTE.

I'm calling total BS on this deal! I'm positive that if bought this TMO iPad from an Apple store,TMO will ask for your credit card and make you sign up for a TMO account before ever letting you have access to the 200 MB per month. There is no way TMO is that stupid! Otherwise I can continue using my iPhone to tether to my TMO iPad and use the 200 mb as a bonus.

They're not being stupid. The problem with T-Mobile is they need customers. That 200MB they're offering for free is just unused airwaves that they still pay for maintenance anyway. It's meant as a teaser to get more folks using T-Mobile service. They're banking on freeloading customers liking their service enough to pay for higher data tiers or perhaps even move their cellphone service to T-Mobile.

If you bought a T-Mobile iPad from Apple, you don't have to go to the T-Mobile store to get service. You can just activate it directly from the iPad (Settings -> Cellular Data). Granted, you do probably need to enter your credit card information.

Exactly. I posted an article a few posts up that said you DO need to sign up for some sort of plan in order to be eligible. I figured it sounded too good to be true.

Has anyone received a conformation (or any other related) email from T-Moble? I signed up a few days ago to be notified and even checked the "send me spam" box but haven't received any emails.

It would be nice to at least have a conformation "your in line" type email.

That doesn't make any sense, if you have to pay 20 bucks a month, why did they say you get 200mb for free? That's not free! It's actually more expensive than other carrier

My point exactly. You will get the 200mb for free but according to that article, you also have to have a plan in place at minimum of $20 per month, making it almost $50 per month total. At that rate, I likely would just add it to my current AT&T plan and tether with the mobile share rather than go with TMO.
Hoping for some clarification from some of the experts here...

You are not required to have a minimum plan in place. From the T-Mobile website Q&A:

"Do I have to be on a plan or a contract in order to get the free data?
In order to get the 200 MB of free Starter Data, you need to have an active Mobile Internet account with T-Mobile.

If you are a postpaid customer, you’ll need to have an On Demand data plan at minimum which is $0/mo. if you are a voice customer (after $10 line credit).

If you are a prepaid customer, you’ll need to activate a prepaid account. You do not have to a purchase data pass in order to access your free Starter Data. T-Mobile does not require an annual service contract."

Oops, my bad, it's just early in the morning and I never considered buying the cellular version until t mobile came out with the free 200 MB plans so I had $500 in my head. I'm kind of surprised T mobile is doing this. Free data usage AND free financing of an ipad? Although I would just buy mine outright--I hate monthly bills. I guess they are putting all that AT&T money to good use! Mini would be slightly more portable but I think I'm going for a t mobile ipad air.

Believe it or not, the interest free loan barely causes a dent in their bottom line, and the 200mb is actually a great way of getting more exposure + promotion. Kudos t-mo for thinking outside the box and not nickel and dime your customers!

T-Mobile's site doesn't say it $20 a month (as EDH667 also points out).
