You can trade any phone, but just like the article says, different phones appraise for different values. Don't expect to get in at $5 per month on a very old device.
That's only for the trade in value of the phone. Even if your trade in value is $0 you'll get the lowest promotional value of saving $12 a month for a trade in of any smart phone... so long as they ACTUALLY accept any smartphone... I have an old ass HTC Windows phone I can give them. :D

I'm also unsure how the "free" music stream works if you hit your cap. We haven't even gotten close since 80% of my data usage is streaming in the car or the gym. I think I used 1.5GB last month where I was pushing 8 on ATT. In an ideal world TMO immediately recognizes the data being pulled shouldn't go against your allotment and therefore comes through unthrottled. But I really don't know how robust that system is. I do know that when trying to see my usage it's not in real time (it even says so when requesting the information) and is actually a couple hours behind.

I'd think that streaming music should continue to work at full speed, even after the high-speed limit is reached.

This sure makes great headline for Tmo, and probably sounds great to those who don't want the hassle of selling their iPhone 6, but you're selling your phone to TMo for $270. By trading your iP6, you're saving $15 a month, multiplied by 18 months that's $270. Just go with the $20 JoD without the trade. I was hoping they'd allow for the trade of any smartphone for the $15 JoD again, but there's no mention of it now.

These aggressive iPhone promotions are definitely win win win for everyone. Surely TMo doesn't pay Apple full retail prices on the phones. By passing a bit (or maybe even all) of the savings to their subscribers, it adds a lot of value to be a TMo customer. TMo in turn gains loyalty, superficially locks in those customers for 18 months, and get more people on their 700mhz band for better coverage.

Either way I'm still coming out around $600 to the good on the deal and I've got a T-Mobile store around the corner from my house. I can pay Sprint off while I'm using up the bill credits. It would be simpler if Sprint would do something to keep me but mobile plans are like the wild west right now. I predict I'll be doing the same jump/upgrade to the 7 in a year at this rate, wonder which provider will be offering the craziest deal then...
I just wanted you to be aware. Some people are blindsided whe they have to pay hundreds or thousands out of pocket.

TMO does seem to have the best price to service ratio right now. I'm happy the Boston area service issues were cleaned up. I tried them about two years ago and it just wouldn't cut it. Excited to see if I get LTE even more places with the new devices. We still drop down to 4g here and there especially in these old brick buildings.

Small tangent, they let you test their network for a full month with a new device before making you pay now. I would recommend that with maybe one line. If you like it you can add more and port over. Unless you're looking to stand in line on launch day your not looking at being able to order 6s/plus devices until Christmas anyway.

You can trade in any device. But and older device won't bet you the maximum rebate. $20 is already the reduced rate for the device, anything o. Top of this is calculated by your trade. I'm sure there is a sweet spot to get the most and for your buck though.

After seeing for the past week and a half that my iPhone 6s order, which was placed on September 12 and confirmed, was being processed and expected to ship tomorrow, September 24, I called the T-Mobile number. It seems my order had been cancelled. I was told it had been cancelled because I had not signed the confirmation. But I never received a confirmation, and they have my correct phone number (of course) and my email address.

How does a company continue so many years in business when they have this much trouble with an order placed over the internet?

My order has been replaced as of this morning, but I still have not received notification of the required signature. I was told it might take 2 hours for it to come to my email.

Waiting. Waiting.

Still waiting.

But my credit card shows the pending charge.

4 hours and still waiting.

I'm on T-mobile (through another, much cheaper reseller) and although they seem to be better in every way than the other carriers, their plans do just seem a little high to me. A 3GB LTE plan is $60/month, whereas I have my wife on Cricket's 2.5GB plan for $35 (including taxes and fees).

Maybe their value is more apparent when you can get a bunch of lines on the same plan, but for an individual it just seems high.

It is a good plan! Which is why I'm so confused by the people who are against it. I always say to each his own. I'd rather not have to deal with selling to a third party if I don't have to. At $20 a month (or less!) there is no benefit for me to buy a phone out and sell at the end of the year.

Maybe there's a Sprint management type reading this who might rather keep my monthly payment rolling in and do something innovative like try to keep my business instead of a service rep who tells me it makes sense for me to go with T-Mobile. My family hates Sprint but I'm on wifi all the time so I couldn't care less.

This is good to know, as compared to the 7 days test drive. For a full month I might just give this a try.

The lease deals don't vary from what was listed in the chart. Promo JOD nets you a $7 credit/month; Any smartphone (though they haven't defined which qualify) nets you $12 credit/month and so on. I'm eyeballing the $12/month credit with my old windows phone cause I don't have any of the other ones.

The $20 reduced rate is the promo JOD deal, but you're getting additional promotional rates for leasing with item trade ins. Trade in value is another story at least that's how it looks to me. They don't expect you to give up a 128gb 6 Plus for the same value as a 16gb 6.

$20/mo JoD pricing looks to be the best deal if you have iPhone 5S or something newish. eBay + JoD promo pricing will yield better value than trading it in for additional $10/mo discount on JoD. Really wish they clearly added "buy-out" price to that table.

It's better, IMO, because you don't have to wait for the phone to ship, they don't out a hold fornthebfukk device amount on your card (although I do believe they run credit), etc. you also get to try the device you actually want to use (before it was a 5S)

The way the text reads is that one must trade in a fairly new device (there are even some example listed in the article) to get the full trade in credit. If that's not how it works, I'm not here to argue either way, but that's certainly not what the verbiage suggests. I wouldn't expect them to knock me down to $5 a month after credits if I walk in to Walmart and buy a $20 go phone on clearance and trade that in.

Directly from tmobile: "e $5 a month for iPhone 6s 16GB and $9 a month for iPhone 6s Plus 16GB with JUMP! On Demand and trade-in of an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus"
That, to me, makes it pretty clear that you aren't going to be trading in a three year old android device and expecting the bill credits.

This is an amazing deal if you're positive you're going to stay with T-Mobile for the next 18 months using the same phone.

However, I won't do it despite being a T-Mobile customer because I like getting a new iPhone every 12 months, not 18 months. The JUMP plan allows this, but then I'll be committed to T-Mobile for another 18 months. That means I have to plan to switch carriers up to a year and a half in advance, and then before I switch, I'll want to have an 18-month old phone so I don't have to pay the fee for the phone. As I said, it's a great deal if you're going to stay with T-Mobile for a long time, but I'll pay for freedom.

You also receive the trade in value of the phone... So in my case 64gb Space Gray iPhone 6 I will get $361 + ($15 off per month X 18)= 270 = $631 for your phone so long as you don't buy it out right next year. But that is only if you lease for 18 months and don't buy out your phone at the end.

OR more realistically you'l trade in after 12 months for the iPhone 7 and you "made" only $361+$180= $541 cause you didn't stick with the current promotion... still beats your $400 though.

It's not bad... my sister is giving me $695 over a 15 month payment plan with me so that's how I'm actually selling mine. :p

If your math is true then why are people getting all uppity saying that Tmo is only paying you $270 for your phone? The $631.00 for an iPhone 6/6 plus is more than you would probably get on craigslist.

I just shot Tmo a tweet asking if this new promo includes the trade-in value or replaces it. Let see what they come up with.

Have you tried your spam folder? I got my EIP within 20 minutes of completing my phone order on 9/12.

This is how I see this breaks down, for a 64GB iPhone 6S as an example:

Retail Cost: $750
Upfront cost: -$100
$4/month*18 months: -$72
Pay at end to keep it: -$164
-------------------------------
Difference: $414

So they are essentially paying you $414 for your trade-in iPhone 6. Not bad at all.

And don't forget that you also have to pay the sales tax on the full retail value of the new phone. In CA, that's another $70.

Because people like to "rabble rabble". $631 would only be if you keep the 6S for 18 months though.... also I did my math sort of wrong... I didn't include the $7/mo JOD promo on it... ($15 savings was the $5 lease over the $20 lease price which included $7 off) so you technically get back "more".

The way they'll get you is at the end in the pay off if you want to OWN the phone. It will be higher than the rates they were giving you before.

These are just the new contracts, with a different name lol.

Keep in mind you can always just buy the phone out. In unsure what you're doing now (sounds like buying outright?) but the phone will never cost you MORE than the full MSRP of the device.

That's not a fair comparison IMO. You're comparing the main carrier (T-Mobile) with an AT&T MVNO (Cricket). It would be better to compare MetroPCS (T-Mobile's MVNO) with Cricket. $40 gets you 2GB before throttling (or $35 if you have multiple lines). Still not up to Cricket's prices, but is a more fair look at them both.

You're not getting what I'm saying... the $5 a month is pretty much for a iPhone 6 level of trade in. But for anything "lower" than a 5S you get the $12 a month... as long as your phone qualifies. But pretty much ANY smartphone that isn't listed on the tiers will get at least the $12 a month bill credit. But there are no tiers in between what is listed. The next one down is just the $7 JOD Promo.

So what I'm saying is either my old HTC phone qualifies for the $12 (any smartphone) trade in deal or it doesn't.

But they are pretty much saying you can buy a $20 Pay as you Go phone and trade it in. The value is worth nothing so they don't give you a trade in value but they do give you a monthly promo credit. It doesn't hurt them in any way to give away an extra $5 credit a month if it brings in more people with new services because at the end if you buy the 6s outright they get all that money back from you (minus the $126 JOD promo credit) or you give them back a 1 year old phone for them to sell somewhere else. But either way they are doing this to boost their subscribers not to make money on selling/leasing you phones.
