Where does it say mobile hotspot is an option specifically for the prepaid (month-to-month) $70 plan (Unlimited 4G)? According to this it isn't:

So you don't have an option under "Services available for your plan"? It should be the very last option.

No. The "Services Available For Your Plan" are specific to your plan. It doesn't apply to all the pre-paid plans.

This is what is available for my pre-paid plan ($70 / Unlimited 4G):

Well, what do you know, it really isn't there. Makes me even happier that I've got the $30 plan. :)

Hmmm... I've restarted a few times and hitting the voicemail button still just calls my voicemail. Previously I had been using YouMail, but I just went through the deactivation process for that (since you have to forward your voicemail to youmail in order for it to work).

Did I see somewhere that visual voicemail has to be a part of your plan? As in you have to pay for it? Or does everybody get it?

Same thing happened to me, even though I didn't jailbreak or use YouMail. Someone had mentioned that it took a while for it to start working for them. I didn't have the patience for that, so I restored my phone and it was working right off the bat (see post #369).

It should work for everybody, considering the fact that it was defaulting to Visual Voicemail on my Dad's iPhone 3GS that we just installed the carrier bundle on. Even though it's the Visual Voicemail menu, it says you can't use it without Cellular Data enabled (he has a talk only plan).

I never signed up for VVM, it just started to work after I restarted my phone.

Meh... I'd hate to have to restore and rejailbreak, hopefully it will start working at some points. Glad to know I should be able to get it though.

I noticed there's now I visual voicemail section where data/mms apn's are located with a username/password field there. Do I need to fill them out maybe?

Having trouble with Visual Voicemail?

1. Apply the carrier update "Settings > General > Software Update OR About" and Update.

2. Power down iPhone for 60 seconds then restart.

If it's still not working then:

3. Contact a T-Mobile representative and let them know you'd like to add Visual Voicemail (VVM) to your line. (Should be free on most plans.)

I actually did 3. above in January when I first switched from AT&T. VVM never worked until I applied the carrier update earlier today. YMMV.

In regards to Mobile Hotspot;

I chose the pass on the Unlimited 4G (U4G) plan and opted for the 5GB plan since it includes Mobile Hotspot (MHS) and is still unlimited, it simply throttles down to EDGE speeds after the 5GB mark. I still retained MHS after the carrier update. I've never even come close to the 5GB cap.

T-Mobile rocks AT&Ts world IMHO. I'm saving $30 a month with more data at faster speeds than AT&T and 50 minutes more voice. Again, YMMV.

For reference: Factory Unlocked iPhone 4S 64GB, Unjailbroken iOS 6.1.3, Martinez, CA.

That is not the same visual voicemail as the iPhone visual voicemail. That is referring to T-mobile's visual voicemail service they offer for Android phones that comes with an app you can download.

I believe the iPhone Visual Voicemail is automatically activated on your account. However, it appears to take a few minutes to activate initially thus the errors some people are getting.

I chose the 70/mo plan as a new customer, then put in my zip code, and chose a random phone, and on this page it gives the options under hotspot. I'm sure you'll have access to it on your my account page, if not now then eventually.

It doesn't show 50/mo baseline plan in the screenshots but its there.

My personal hot spot works very well! I am on the $60 prepaid plan with 2.5gb of data, but I only pay $50 a month because I had a promotion last year with them that gives me $10 a month off of my bill for life.

No, I didn't have visual voice mail through T-Mobile. With the carrier update, I now have it on an iPhone 4, jailbroken, unlocked, and running 6.1.2.

----------

I'm on 6.1.3.

My girlfriend has a 3GS and it is working. It was odd though mine didn't show voice mail for about ten minutes after I updated. It also takes some time to download any saved voice mail messages you have.

Thank you. It appears you have the post-paid plan. The options are different for pre-paid. If you're a post-paid customer you get the mobile hotspot with 500 MB of data included (all plans). If you want more data you can add it on at an additional cost.

Pre-paid customers who have the $70 plan don't have the option to add mobile hotspot at an additional cost. You simply can't tether with that plan. The pre-paid $50 and $60 plans include mobile hotspot at no additional cost (500 MB and 2.5 GB respectively).

Chatted with a T-Mobile rep online and told them VMM wasn't working for me. They said I had "extended voicemail" on my account, but not VMM. They activated VMM for free without any issue, and said it should be working on my phone within two hours.

I received my carrier update. Visual Voicemail is now enabled by I keep getting "Voicemail Unavailable Could not authorize access." I chatted with T-Mobile help and they said that visual voicemail is not compatible with the iPhone 3GS.

So not only can I not use VVM but I also cannot know that I have new voicemail. Not sure what to do.

What kind of data plan do you have? Try cellular and 3G data on in settings if it is off. Keep in mind if you don't have a data plan that will cost you. Visual Voicemail works differently than typical voice mail in that it downloads the message to your device as opposed to keeping it on the carriers server. This means you need an internet connection.

OK, on my iPhone 3GS, VVM was available immediately after a reboot, on my wife's 3GS, it took a reboot and a couple minutes of wait time. Neither of us had to sign up for anything.

On mine, I got it through iTunes, on hers, through General/Software Updates on the phone.

When I switched to T-Mobile in January, the rep at the store told me to call and have VVM added. The phone rep knew I had a FUL iPhone and neither ever mentioned it being for the Android app only.

I included calling to add VVM as a possible extra step that may help those still having problems with their VVM. I figured it could help and at worst might waste a few minutes of time on the phone.

I'm on the 50/monthly prepaid "simple" plan but i did this for you :). I believe tmobile support are calling the new plan "simple" And its not postpay. No new accounts will be postpay from what i understand. When I called up to get this a few days back they said I could get the old plan with the older prices (start off with like 200MB data) or the simple plan with 500MB and hotspot, but I would need to pay a deposit but there's no contract since I was bringing my own iphone and if I left, whenever, I'd get my deposit back. So to get more data, I just paid the deposit to get in the simple plan.

So if you are on the simple plans' 70/mo unlimited you should be able to get it. But if you are on the old 70/mo one then that one wouldn't.

one of many articles

Tmobile isn't getting rid of 2G anytime soon. It will take several more years for them to upgrade their current 2G only areas to hsap+. Their focus right now seems to be refarming and getting LTE rolled out but that's covering areas that already have HSPA+ anyway. Once their done with that stuff they may possibly begin to upgrade the 2G areas again but as of now they have not stated anything on the matter.
