I agree with the earlier comment that TAG isn't exactly a high quality name in the watch world, but it's amusing to see all the commenters here dismiss this as a copy cat move from TAG, as if Apple is some sort of watch expert (they aren't).

Quite frankly, I think they're all bad ideas.

Because no matter what, there's always gonna be a decent number of folks here on macrumors who praise anything apple and mock anything thats not. Theres a reason apple followers have for decades been referred to as a 'cult'.

That's not the norm and affected very few people. It was only people who updated in a certain way a 45 minute window. My phone didn't even notify me of an update until after the problem was fixed.

It's pretty normal for my Android friends to have something not working.

I have used 3 models of iPhone and many android phones. the only update I ever got that bricked a phone was Apples update. Way to defend Apple. They can do no wrong.

Don't you know? Everything is a copycat of Apple. Even when Apple doesn't do it first.

A very nice looking watch with a very crappy operating system is still a piece of crap in my book. Apple's software is what will make all the difference.

True, but an ugly watch (Apple) with great software (Apple) is not something I'm looking forward putting on my wrist.
A Tag with Apple software would be best of both worlds.

Remember, this is also TAG Heuer. FAR from a high-end anything in the watch world. Aside from a model or two that still have ties to their heritage that used to make them desirable watches, they have been insignificant for years. More or less just fashion watches for Maybe a decade or three now. Not sought after watches by "watch nuts" in any way, shape, or form. They have to grasp at straws to stay relevant. This is not an indicator that the "high end Swiss watch" world is panic reacting to the Apple Watch. When you see movement in AP, PP, Rolex/Tudor, Panerai, then you'll know the "high end" Swiss watch world views it as a threat.

Thank you... No one cares about Tag in the watch world. I would add JLC to your list and remove Panerai but if you're a WIS then you're used to these sorts of comments :D

Oh really?! Did Apple ever bother to explain how their new earth will be updated or upgraded? What they're doing is not industrial power. Apple is not a person but a company filled with flesh and blood that comes and goes, or even die.

They haven't transformed anything yet. Not until after its shipped. Do you know how propaganda works? They're brainwashing you and you don't even know it.

Welcome to "1984".

Actually, I think his statement is based more on reality and historical fact than your comment which seems irrationally biased with your rant and personal attack

You don't have to be brainwashed to understand that companies react to Apple's every move because of their success in disrupting markets... Mere rumors have companies scrambling.

The fact that companies rushed (and are rushing into) the smartwatch space before Apple has even shipped their first product is proof of that. If that isn't power and influence in the marketplace, I don't know what is.

Moto 360

Get real, the 360 looks like garbage in life too.

The Moto 360 is not for everyone. I use android for my phone and Apple for tablet. My wife bought me the Moto 360 as a gift and I was apprehensive about it at first (not for appearance but function). I can't even begin to tell you how many people have stopped to ask me about my watch. It happens all the time and every single one of them talks about how nice it looks. Plenty of those complimenting it are females and plenty are iphone users. Your opinion may differ and there is nothing wrong with that. But saying it looks like garbage to be inflammatory just makes any point you are trying to make seem worthless. If you would actually put a little thought and rationale into your opinions then they might be respected. I am continually amazed by how fanboys on both sides of the spectrum try to belittle others for their choices. Anyone with such an unhealthy allegiance to a corporation is to be pitied.

You can't get sued if you come out with something first...;)

Tag Heuer Partnering With Google and Intel to Build Connected Smartwatch

Yeah, thinking about it I'd probably do your suggestion too. I just know that Panerai is fairly popular, but I like JLC better anyway.

And it's the fact that no one in the watch world cares about TAG is EXACTLY why they are the company to do this type of experiment. They have no real reputation to lose.

Watchmakers are obvious fearful of a repeat of the mobile phone industry.

.

I don't think they should be... unless you're referring to the brands that pump out mass market digital watches. I own several automatics and plan on buying an apple watch. I"m somewhat of a watch guy and will never give up my automatics and will still buy more in the future.

The appeal of an automatic watch (to me) is completely different than the appeal of the apple watch. They will both have a time and a place for me. Date night with the wife? An automatic it is. Working out? Time for the apple watch.

Switching watches daily is nothing new for people into watches. High end watch makers (Tag is not in this category) are appealing for a completely different reason. Most people into watches have quite a few (or at least more than one). The same can't be said for phones.

But, but... I thought there "wasn't a market for a high-end luxury smartwatch."

"It's... It's just a piece of technology that will be outdated in a year! Who would buy something like that anyway? That's not an investment!"

Yup, I remember when he made these comments too! Funny how they are now on the band wagon instead of taking shots at Apple.

Not true until you witness a scheduled mass suicide.

I'm skeptical that any smartwatch will gain long term traction. I just don't want to wear a watch again after being free of it since the introduction of the smartphone.

However, if I were to be convinced to buy one--it wouldn't be the Apple Watch in its current form. I think its bulky and overpriced for what it does. If Tag can make a high functioning smartwatch that looks similar to its regular watches then that would be my choice.

Your post nearly word for word was what the naysayers said upon Apple releasing the iPad......especially when many swore up and down their Netbooks were all they needed....then they laughed at Apple. Hmmm.

But that also doesn't make his post wrong.

Another naysayer on MR.....whom also happens to be a new registrant. Oh that's a surprise

Look, I'm not buying the AppleWatch. I don't personally have a need for it but I'm not going to act close-minded and have the attitude of "If it's not for me it's not for anyone else either".

the rumors of google and tag heuer partnering have been swirling since android wear was announced. It's not a reaction to the apple watch.
