I've been to India many times and it doesn't feel like Apple is really deployed in India (like no Apple Stores, etc). That is why I am a bit unsurprised with your experience (mainly the "File a lawsuit" thing)

India is a poor country. Only 2% of the population can afford an iPhone.

I can't understand why anyone would voluntarily go through 6 replacements. After replacement #2, I'd say the hell with Apple and get another phone.

I'd believe the OP.

I personally went through 5 3G iPhones before getting a decent one.

1st one - half the touch screen completely stopped working

2nd one - got absolutely NO service at all

3rd one - silent/vibrate button completely stopped working

4th one - camera completely stopped working

5th one - had something VERY loose/rattling around inside.. and we're not talking nit-picking loose - it sounded like it had 3-4 marbles rolling around in it.

My iPhone 4 has been flawless since day one and I'm beyond thankful. I don't know why so many of you guys are criticizing the OP, though. A person SHOULD be expecting a perfect iPhone. That's part of the appeal of it. It's built MUCH more solid than other phones.

My sister-in-law has an Android phone and that thing is a complete rattly/squeaky/loose feeling POS. All the little buttons on the side rattle and are extremely loose and the whole thing feels cheap. She took it in for an exchange and (with the Verizon employees) went through about 10 of the same phones and they ALL had the same issue. Verizon basically even told her they're all like that and that they're built pretty poorly. Even the Droid X feels cheap/loose/crummy.

I'd be mad too if I had an iPhone with similar problems because we all know the iPhone is one phone that SHOULDN'T be like that. That's part of the reason we pay a premium for all glass/stainless steel. Hell, Apple even had a commercial a while back about the iPhone 4 touting its rigid construction.

Unfortunately, it just seems like the OP has had some incredibly poor luck-of-the-draw. And it sounds like being in India he doesn't have as much recourse as those of us in the states.

i'm wondering how you approached Apple about these issues. 6 replacements is a high number and there has to be more to this story. If the Apple guys are now giving you the cold shoulder, there must be something that you are doing to rub them wrong or they feel you're being excessively tight on their products.

get more bee's with honey than vinegar.

OP, it is hard to convince people over the internet of your sincerity and plight
We are not able to see the devices themselves and experience all of your interactions
We only have your side of the story... one side...

While you try to make your case, it is coming across as unrealistic
Whether that is true or not cannot be determined by us

However, the conclusion many are coming to is this...
Apple did everything they could to satisfy you and they just couldn't
So they gave up on you

India is a poor country. Only 2% of the population can afford an iPhone.

63% of Indians have 752,190,678 mobiles (and growing) ... doesn't really matters if it's iPhone or chiphone.

2 of top five richest people - Indian

I agree, but Apple does exists here, provides great service on all the product except iPhone!

Work, pleasure, addiction.

Could you elaborate?

scaredpoet just gave this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1578

This is where you differentiate Apple from other companies. TRUST.

Apple provides great service on every product. Treats customers in the best way possible. I always (and will) talk about the great service they provide.

Problem is that Apple launched iPhone without proper infrastructure. First six months of iPhone 3G launch, iStore didn't know if they can accept iPhone for repair!

YES, some iPhones are imperfectly built - but these are the refurbished ones.

...That is by design, not a flaw.

I know that today, contrary to what AppleCare said - design flaw.

Just curious, but part of India are you from?

Bangalore.

Are you really saying thats a design flaw?

You have to hold it down like 1/8th of a second longer.

That's what guy at Apple Store said.

Beginning to see why Apple just finally told him to file a law suit?

That's what an Individual said. Apple has a great customer service setup - not perfect I suppose, and thats the point here.

ok OP.

i'd really like to know all of the issues you experienced.

and...

- Last refurbished 3GS had a faulty glass which was visible, but Apple Service guy refused to address that as he felt it was 'minor' issue.

how the hell can glass be faulty? it's a piece of glass. please elaborate.

Well all the iPhone had some or the major issue + battery problem.

- touch not working on some parts of the phone
- on one iPhone wifi didn't existed. You switch on wifi, but nothing happens.
- touch to vibrate
- phone used to get blackout abruptly.

And hello yes, the current iPhone's (3GS) glass is a problem. It's really deep inside from top corner and more than usual outside on lower left.

It's basically not well fitted. When I was accepting thing phone from iStore guys, they addressed its a minor problem.

Perhaps you were denied these as they recognized your concerns as not really being issues to begin with? Then you kept at it and hence the lawsuit reccomendation:rolleyes:

+1

the op is trying hard to justify his claims, but so far most are seeing that he is too picky and probably is a difficult customer with extremely high standards/expectations that cannot be met.

maybe the best thing for everybody is for you to find a new phone. I hear Nokia has some nice stuff coming out soon.

I love how people without issues bash the OP like he's being too picky.

Grow up guys.

I had an issue with my home button not working sometimes or acting like a double click on a single click. Apple replaced it and the new one is fine. If I had gotten the second phone first does that mean that when someone says they have an issue with the home button I should say "what issue? Mine works fine. You're being too picky. Just enjoy what you have"?

I love Apple but they kinda need to pump out quality products again. They were better when everything was made in America.

I have sold a couple iphones to coworkers going back to India. From what they have told me, Apple is not selling the iphone in India. True? Of the couple of phones that I have sold all were jailbroken and unlocked before they were taken to India. Is that the case with your phone, or did you buy it from a country that sold them unlocked?

Just wondering if there are a number of things at play here. I own a number of Apple products. Just had a 2 month old Airport Extreme brick and took it back to Apple and got it replaced with no issues. I have an 8 year old Apple desktop that is still a viable machine. Typing this on a Macbook Pro. I have no complaints with Apple.

Looks like you have you answer then, and you needn't bother us further with your complaints. Good luck with your lawsuit!

Do you live on MacRumors that you felt like I was bothering you? You had a choice and you choose to waste your time where no one's accepting your not-so-good luck wishes. I don't blame you, there must be something really wrong with your life. Good luck with what ever you are sick with, if you are.

There are people looking for information like this. You are just wasting the space here with useless comments. So please don't!

Apple sells iPhone here - they are locked to vodafone and a local operator - Airtel.

Even I don't have any problem with anything Apple. Just the replacements iPhones are really poorly assembled. I've been fortunate that I got to use and enjoy Apple products and specially iPhone - and this is like a disappointment with a product I love, nothing less nothing more.

I always wondered where the damaged, returned phones went. Interesting.

I guess replacement products doesn't go through Q&A.

I think it's ok that they manufacture products in China, till you get manufacturing cheap in US. Just that Q&A really needs to be better.

And yes, grow up guys and let us fill this space with useful/meaningful information and healthy discussions.

You sound like you are Apple and too burdened by my calls to AppleCare - HELLO!! good morning, you are NOT invited.

A bit harsh bud, he's probably just had bad luck?

I think I know the real problem - Q&A of replacement phones. I did my part, gave my feedback to apple.
