If this is the actual size of the screen, my feelings are a little mixed. One side I'm glad that the ratio is changing to 16:9 (right?) because thats what movies and shows are and if apple is rumored to be pushing its ecosystem into livingrooms, this is a logical change imo. On the flip side, there are alot of old apps in another screen ratio. Who here likes black bars?

I'm guessing the circle on the top IS the FaceTime camera. The slit is the earpiece.

The circle at the bottom would probably be the home button.

I'm hoping the extra space is just for keyboard or commonly used apps (like the dock in Mac OS X). If not, as others have said, it's going to be a pain redoing the guy for the apps.

There appears to be a third, smaller circle to the left of the camera

Changing the aspect ratio AND limiting the size increase to just 4" are both ridiculous. They simultaneouslypiss off developers AND people who want larger screen size more comparable to the market. And fragment their market more. Nice job on this.

I don't know a lot about displays, but can they distribute the extra pixels from the retina display to fill the whole screen? Obviously, it wouldn't be retina on the new phone, but it'll at least eliminate any black screen showing as in the iPad.

Lol i'm not a retard i though the bottom whole is the home button and the top whole is the facetime, if you look at the photo carefully you will see a much smaller circle right next to the facetime camera whole.

I am hoping for either a front flash or notification light (or both like the back one)

Jeez Apple is it that hard to remove a home button? Just place it on top next to the sleep/wake button if you that desperately need it, but please don't make the whole device longer just so you can have that button on the bodem.

I love having the circle home button! Exactly where it is

But that's already the case, so the situation can't get any worse. I imagine all the on-screen elements will be the exact same size that they are on the IP4, we'll simply have some more real estate on either side (in landscape).

Agreed it's not getting worse - just sad that it may not be getting any better. I don't think horizontal space is the issue in landscape - so gaining space on the left and right isn't worth adding a new resolution and aspect ratio.

I am glad that the physical size of the phone hasn't changed significantly (in the rumors), that was my biggest worry.

iPhone 5 will be announced at WWDC. Whether or not it is released this summer remains to be seen.

ehh... not gonna disagree except for the way you named it. Could and could not be announced at WWDC, thats the beauty of anxiety and surprises from Apple!:D

What I don't like at all is that, while this 16:9 aspect ratio is great for viewing videos, is that - if the rumours are correct - they will settle with a 1136 x 640 resolution. That's just short of HD - which means you will be wasting space if you are going to put 720p HD (or even 1080p) HD videos on your iPhone, but that you will losing picture quality when you are settling with DVD quality.

It seems weird but I'm sure I'll like whatever they come out with. Honestly I love the screen size of my 4S. I've used multiple android phones with bigger screens and wasn't any happier with them.

I'm quite interested to see how they pull off integrating apps of the old aspect ratio with this new ratio. I think I would have preferred the same ratio, only larger, so I get a larger keyboard in portrait mode (how I use my phone for typing).

Me too, I'm going to speculate and say that since it is the same width, just taller.... that any app that is not built with the new aspect ratio will float in the center of the screen creating a top/bottom border, similar to how iPhone apps float on the iPad screen. Any apps that use the standard UINavigationController and UITabBarController will likely just need to have their view controllers stretched vertically allowing for more content on the screen.

In any case, I just hope it is a smooth transition for developers so that early adopters aren't affected too much. Perhaps we'll see a large gap between announcement/SDK release and product release so devs have time to get their apps ready.

Yeah, I agree. I'll be happy for the bit of extra space, and even happier for a still-svelte device.

I'm hoping they'll have an elegant solution to the aspect ratio problem. Perhaps if they announce at WWDC people will have enough time to update their apps accordingly.

Never before have we had their many "leaks" so early with video and non-blurry pictures of a new iProduct

I think apple shot themselves in the foot by putting such nice cameras on their phones, it makes the leaks look that much clearer.

Sorry, I work in IT and I get a lot of really simple questions; you'd be surprised by how stupid can be. I've had people ask why something does't work. It's because it wasn't plugged in. Some people couldn't log in. Because they didn't spell their own name correctly. So just kind of force of habit for me to go to the stupidest answer first. Sorry.

The third hole is probably the proximity sensor. That's been there since the original iPhone. Basically, if you put your phone next to your ear, the proximity sensor tells the phone to turn off the display so you don't accidentally press something.

It's funny I never thought my iPhone was too short, but after looking at the images all day yesterday, I picked it up and it suddenly seemed rather squat. Either I am ridiculously impressionable, which is quite probable, or Apple are onto something as usual.

This is interesting because Tim Cook the other day said that a good thing about iOS (and the iPhone) is consistent screen size / resolution. :p With this however things will of course be changing... even if just a little bit.

I'm wondering how they'll handle this. Apps will probably automatically be upscaled, I don't think the 'zoom' button like they have on the iPad (for iPhone apps) will be needed. Thankfully the entire resolution hasn't changed too much, just a bit from the top and the bottom will be added to the mix.

At least it should be nicer to watch widescreen TV shows & movies on the iPhone now :)
