wow, the black/orange contrast looks really cool, but rather than going for the checkered look with the keys, you could try something like this:

This way, you could have all of the A-Z letter keys in orange, and then every other key in black.

I agree, the checkerboard look kind of takes away from the overall coolness factor in my opinion, and it kind of makes it look like those little candy corn candies from halloween.

good job its pretty cool but i hate the color orange if this was only a diffrent color i would be all over this thing they keyboard would get me extreamly comfused lol i give it a 3 out of 5 but i will give u another point becase you were brave enough to do it if only it was red and white or black and blue

I really like what you've done with it. The Colorware stuff is nice but its not all that personalized when you think of it. Your project is awesome because you have so much control over all the aspects of it.

I think a black Apple logo would look better, and I'd leave all the keys orange. I think the alternating black/orange keys is a little too much. Just my thoughts...

I actually like how it turned out, how the look has this dissonant feel but still rocks as whole :)

Wow, I just found this thread and read through everything. Congrats on your special project, I have an old G3 ibook and maybe I'll start working on a custom color job myself . . .

I think it looks really badass. Especially now that you've got the black topcase, dark apple logo, and a great design with the keys. It looks awesome. i would do an orange and black background though. Great job.

Well I got the chance to see and use this orange beauty in person, and it looks really good. The checkered board looks awesome. Pics don't do it justice.

Where at in SoCal are you?

I just purchased some black RIT dye off ebay and I'm going to start on a few extra ibook cases I got :D, then off to ebay they go :)

I thought about "blackening" my 12" white G4 iBook, but I was afraid black dye would just result in a dull gray finish, rather than a true black. I'll be curious to know your results.

very creative. what about a solid orange keyboard? (or is that yellow?)

If you read back in the thread, (yes, I know there are allot of posts, but whatever) I broke the F6 key accidentally, so instead of just having a solid black keyboard, I came up with the checkerboard idea. I can always change it to solid black, but until I get a dead white topcase to play with this is how it will stay.

So, I got a Red gel...

And put it in my MacBook.

Backlight on...

Its dark red when the backlight is off, and more Magenta when its on full.

I want to get a 360* view of it and take some pictures with a friends DSLR sometime, and submit it to macmod... And then I can call it done. :D

Also, A big Thank You to everyone who has commented and supported me! This thread just got 25,000 views, so woohoo!

Absolutely lovely.
I was amazed when I first stumbled over this thread, was thrilled seeing your progression and am stunned watching the final pictures.
