This is my experience. After placing orders at apple.com, bestbuy, and at&t, I just casually checked our small town's target store from the links posted earlier. In the launch day, they've only got 5, so I didn't expect much.

To my surprise, 64 white wifi shows 'limited availability', so I rushed to target (2 min from work). I even wrote down DPC(?) code just in case. There was a guy in electronics and when I asked about iPad 2, he said all sold out. I told him about limited availability that I saw and gave him the dpc code. He punched in, shows not in stock.

I asked him to see if there's anything in the backroom. He walki-talkied and found that there are three! 2 of 32gb black wifi and 1 of 64gb white wifi. I wanted to buy all three for friends who couldn't get, but they said to allow only 1 per person. My wife happened to be done with her exercise, so she came over and we took 2 32gb models.

I came back to work and found that the online inventory still shows available for 32 gb even if I know they are sold out. So I think there is still a bit of delay. I think limited availability means probably 1 unit left.

If you want one, I'd keep checking and once it shows limited availability or available, head down and make sure to ask to check the storage room by insisting.

Good luck and thanks for the checking tool.

Well, thanks for the link. One other guy and I scored 64G 3G Black models in the Granada Hills Target. As of now, they have several WiFi only models. Although the stock checker link said "available" they only had two in stock of the AT&T models.

The only downside was both the other guy and myself had to call the CC companies which flagged the purchases as possibly fraudulent.

Thanks for the links! I struck out at the Keystone Apple store but got a 32black wifi at one of my local targets. I love target!

Wth!!

My local target shows a 32 gig black as avaliable, so i rushed over there to have the guy say that "the computer show apple sent us some but we havent gotten any apple boxes yet"

sounds fishy to me...what do you guys think i should do?

I woke up today and check this site first lol and saw the list for inventory checking and found a store about 30 miles from me that has the 32gb (I already ordered a 16gb one from Walmart that will be here next week but I realized I needed more space, so not sure what to do with the 2nd one) lol

But THANK YOU! now I got the 32gb!

So I went inside Target and punched in the DCPI number and it said it was in the storeroom. They didn't believe me and after persisting with them for a while. The manager finally checked...10 Minutes later he walks out with 8 iPad 2's and had 2 32GB WIFI in black so I happily walked out with the Model I wanted :) Thanks everyone who helped and gave me advice!

Thanks so much for posting this! All of the stores around me say they don't have any in stock.... However, are these iPads coming in or are they iPads already in the store that no one has purchased? As in, just because a certain store says that they don't have it today, does that mean that they probably wont have one tomorrow? (If off to my Target store right now just to make sure they don't have any) Also, has anyone called stores that say "limited availability" only to have the person at the electronics counter say that they don't have them? I got that a couple of times...

Awesome Information!

Thanks so much to the folks on this thread that provided the tracking links. Rather than having to wait many weeks, I now have a 32Gb black WiFi iPad 2! One of my local stores received two this morning and I only knew that based on this site. Again, thanks for helping out a fellow user -- I am truly jazzed to have found an iPad.

I watched the inventory change from NOT IN STOCK to either Limited inventory or Available last night around midnight. When I checked again at 5:30AM this morning even more inventory at different stores was showing.

Do not trust a phone call. Try to get there at opening (8AM ) and you should be able to find what you want. I went to a store that showed both 32gb Black and 64gb white as available. I was the first person in the store and the first at the electronics counter. They had two (2) 32gb black and two (2) 64 gb white. I took one of the 32 gb black ipad2s. Yesterday someone posted that they were at a store that showed limited inventory in a 64gb white and there was one (1) piece so I guess that means that one= limited and available= 2 or more.

I just got very excited to see that the Farmington Hills, MI Target showed black 32gb wifi in stock. Really!?!?!?!? Let's go buy a couple!

I hightailed it over there only to find out that there was an error in the distribution log. Not only did they not have them, they NEVER GOT ANY.

The girl checked again for me and she was well aware that it showed as in stock on the search site.

Oh well, at least there was a Taco Bell on the way home so I could make myself sick :) .

I guess the system is not infallible. It was worth a shot though.

Thanks to this thread I did managed to get a 32GB Black WiFi today from a Target.

I went in shortly after they opened. Both people working the electronics section (one appeared to be a supervisor) said they didn't have any. I gave them the part number, and the clerk got confused as the inventory system said they were in the display case and they weren't.

I asked him to go check the back. He said they shouldn't be back there, but he'd go look for me anyway. He was gone a good 10 minutes, but came out with the 32GB Black.

The supervisor apologized, and said she had closed last night and it had not shown they were going to receive any. And she was upset that someone had apparently "scanned" the units in and reported they were placed in the display when they were not.

The clerk also mentioned that some products don't get put on display until 10am, and that might be why they were left in the back until the 10am shift came on to put them in the display case.

So yes, the online inventory system seems to be accurate, but you need to give them the part number and have them look it up. If their system shows it in stock, push them to hunt for it. If the first clerk turns up empty handed, as for a supervisor and ask them what makes more sense "That Target have a several thousand dollar inventory shortage or that the units came in but didn't get put out like they were supposed to?".

Yes!

Worked for me too!

First one there, they were opening the boxes when I got there. Only had two 32 G Black. Grabbed one.

Thanks to this thread!

I just tried this and the it failed to work for me. According to online inventory it says they have available but when i went to the store the sale person in electronics said they don't have any and they would if they got any. So spoke to store manager who said that there inventory system is not accurate..

tried with Jersey City, NJ store. Which has is listed as "Available"

Didn't work for me. I went to 2 Target stores this morning, one said Available and the other said limited availability, and both were for the 32GB White Wi-Fi; and neither one had any in stock. I checked the display, and no luck... I hadn't seen the posts of the last 2 pages, so didn't do the DCP check, nor did I tell them to go in the back and check the inventory in the back room. But now that I know, that will be the plan for tomorrow.

Looks like several Charlotte NC Targets have "limited availability" of the 64gb wireless models - checked about 2 min ago.

I saw that, I called the Monroe store which says available and the did not have any left. It does appear there is a lag.

This didn't work for me either. Two stores near me were showing 32GB WiFi models in stock, but the iPad 2's were not on the floor nor in the back room. A check of the DPCI on the stores' scanners confirmed this. What's weird is that both stores claimed they've never had any 32GB WiFi-only models.

Must say this is the best post!! i found one and the awesome Target lady put it on hold for me to pick up after work. THANK YOU THREAD STARTER!!

the last and only one they had 64g white.

Sent a friend over at one of the Targets in Sacramento and he found one!! 32gig black wifi. not sure if they had more, but stock still shows as available.

And the funny thing is that I had called while he was there and they told me over the phone that they had NONE!!!

Probably true. It is also lunch time, so I'm sure folks are dropping in to check stock.

That said, it encourages me somewhat that, however slowly, the small trickle of ipads to retailers continues. I ordered online late 3/11, so hopefully mine ships sometime in the next 2 weeks and it is a moot point for me unless I give my wife one now as opposed to this summer. Anyway, I hope we can help everyone get an ipad2 in their hands who really wants one, and not just the resellers. I understand reselling is capitalism so please do not bombard me about that b/c i'm ok that they did what they are free to do, I just would like to see people anxious to use an ipad2 get a hold of one.....
