It's ironic and oddly humorous that the most reliable store for determining stock prior to arriving at the store is Target of all places. Not Best Buy... not even Apple stores offer that ability.

Not to mention that if you do check overnight for inventory and are able to get to the store right when it opens, there's usually no line at all and the inventory almost always matches what's stated online. It's been a better customer experience overall than Apple stores (constant lines) or Best Buy (charging for reservations) by a mile.

Exactly. I highly recommend that those still searching employ these methods. Just make sure it says 'Available' prior to the stores opening at 8 am and they're guaranteed to be in the store.

Anyone try the Norwalk, CA or Rancho Cucamonga, CA stores? I tried Norwalk but was denied; the store still shows Available. Rancho Cucamonga claims to be out of stock over the phone, but we know how that goes. The store also shows Available. I am checking on 64GB White, WiFi.

I could drive to either on lunch but would rather not drive close to two hours round-trip to be turned down in the store.

I just got back from Norwalk. It was a waste of time. That store's inventory is not accurate as the 32G wifi ipad has been shown to be in stock for the last 3 days.

Is that the case in other stores too ? did u insist on checking in the back ? like a most of people are doing ?

I called a Target in Farmington Hills, MI and they said they just sold out of their 32gb ipads. In the morning, it said out of stock and now the website says it's in stock... Also, I checked the Kalamazoo area and multiple Targets that were out of stock now say limited availability. So this means some are getting shipments!

Agreed. It seems the weakest link in people's recent experiences at Target is the employees themselves. While some are eager to help, others are too stubborn and miserable to put some effort into looking.

to stinkyfriedtofu:

Just curious which Fullerton Target you are referring to (I believe there are three). I drove from the Greatland, on Malvern/Gilbert, which had sold out right at 8, to the Target on Orangethorpe/Harbor right around 8:30.

The guy told me they had absolutely none, that he was the one in charge of the iPad 2 deliveries and that they hadn't received any since launch. Just hoping I didn't get punked, and they realized after the fact that they did get some in. :(

I was at the one on Yorba Linda Blvd. Yea i checked the inventory of the one on Gilbert before I arrived at the Yorba Linda one, and it already showed Out of Stock

Got 32 GB Black Wi-Fi today :D

Baltimore, MD store showed up "Available" yesterday at around 8 pm, and when I went there today morning, had 2 Black 32 GB Wi-Fi, 1 White 32 GB Wi-Fi and 1 White 64 GB Wi-Fi. I wanted to buy 2, they brought two to the register, after asking if there is a limit (damn me :D), they called manager to check, and she said:

"We don't have any new ones in stock!" Hehe, right :D
"There is a limit of 1 per person" :( Asking a lot is not a good thing :D

Anyways, thanks for the original poster of the stock tracking.

PS: Glen Burnie also showed "available" today, but apparently, as of the afternoon, ALL iPads are now sold!

Ordered online, reserved at BB, waited a week, got it from Target :D

I checked the Targets around the bay area this morning and there was limited availability for the white 32 gig verizon at Morgan Hill near San Jose. My dad went buy and got one for me. They are showing quite a few available in and around the central valley where my parents live.

I think the OP (H335) should post his paypal account name so those of you that got lucky with this Target info can toss a few $$$ his way.

:D

(me, on the other hand, can't find any Targets with any iPads in stock anywhere near me. Same for Microcenter, Best Buy, Apple, etc.. )

but thanks to all the helpful posters, we can at least avoid driving all over the planet trying to find iPads.

for those people who where able to get iPad 2 at Target, did you encounter any backlight bleeding, dead/stuck pixels or any other problem?

what is Target return policy? can you get warranty claim at any Apple store for iPads purchased at Target? Or simy return the item back at any Target locations near you?

NO backlight bleeding no dead or stuck pixels and 90 day return policy. I believe that apple has a procedure for warranty problems but I cannot speak to it although I am a MacBook PRo, iMAC 27" and an iphone4 vzn owner.

You can call an apple store and ask.

LOL. Good job, Yebot.

i am wondering if any one got lucky upstate , New York getting ipad thru the checking inventory system.. most of the people reporting here are from major cities .. i was thinking if this is the case with all targets or just major cities?

Not just major cities. Don't be fooled. My small town got 4 64gb wi fi white on Wed and had gotten three on Tuesday before I got there so keep your chin up and keep looking at the inventory. Do not get discouraged. And do not tell the resellers.

Worked great. Learned of tool yesterday morning after Target had opened. I missed out on the available ipads in Cerritos, CA. Used tool this morning to get me a 32Gig Black Wi-fi in Cypress, CA. I got there before it opened. Thanks all.

Actually, it is not surprising at all. They run a tight ship.
Apple takes advantage of the free advertising they get when droves of people stand in line for hours then come home with nothing. And it happens day after day after day. After a number of days of unproductive hunting folks are fed up with both apple and their deliberate vagueness and Best Buy taking deposits on units that they may not get for months. So now that Target has inventory they are being rewarded for showing the potential customer where it is located within their chain of stores. And although apple sells a unit indirectly their profit margin is less on an apple product sold through a reseller. Let the scalpers buy from the apple stores. The end users and enthusiasts will buy from Target.

Good. This is exactly what this thread is supposed to do.

Totally agree. It's by design. Apple loves to show share inventory and have people waiting every single day at 7am. Local store told me that people line up every day and don't even know if store got any stock. He proudly told mr join them if u want one. Every day. That's BS. What a rotten way to get publicity. And BB is somewhat better. At-least they handed out numbers so folks could go on to their business. They value people's time.
It's also quite monopoloistic of apple for them to be the only site to order wifi models only. So apple.

Congrats to you on finding one!

I saw well after 8 AM that the store on YL Blvd. was in stock of the 64GB White WiFi but being stuck at work I was unable to check it out. Figured the resellers that were at the other two Fullerton's would swoop in. Gives me hope for tomorrow though (Or maybe one of my seven BB reservations will actually come through, just want ONE!).

Do stores still receive shipments into the afternoon/evening or is it basically a lost cause for Thursday?

Is that the case in other stores too ? did u insist on checking in the back ? like a most of people are doing ?

When I personally tried Norwalk, CA (For White 64 GB WiFi), we insisted they check the back and the electronics person kept insisting they were out. They said others had previously checked also. The store still says Available (Not sure about 32GB).

I bet that one was probably a 5 finger discount.

anyone having luck in south florida? i'm getting nothing.

I second this... Have you tried Target method yet? I'm in Fort Myers and am I am going to try this tomorrow morning, I missed getting one at the Coconut Point Apple store this morning by 1 person.

I was shopping at Target last night (3/16) and stopped by the electronics department and the guy said they have not had any new shipments since last Friday? Am I SOL?

I can totally believe the long lines on launch day were planned, that's great press. And I'm sure that's why the Friday afternoon launch and no preorders.

However I think Apple was caught with their pants down, and didn't expect the launch to be so huge.

1) They launched a month early to head off any traction from Xoom and the other new tablet platforms coming out this spring. So less time to build inventory

2) I think the demand for the iPad 2 is even higher than Apple predicted. The improvements are marginal, and I don't think Apple forsaw how many iPad 1 owners would want to trade up so soon after getting their iPad 1, and I think the disappointment of Xoom caused a lot of us who had been holding out for a good Android tablet to bite the bullet and go with the iPad 2.
