2) I think the demand for the iPad 2 is even higher than Apple predicted. The improvements are marginal, and I don't think Apple forsaw how many iPad 1 owners would want to trade up so soon after getting their iPad 1, and I think the disappointment of Xoom caused a lot of us who had been holding out for a good Android tablet to bite the bullet and go with the iPad 2.

Agree with this. I had sold my iPad 1 a few months ago only because I didn't need a 3G one. I wouldn't be selling it now if I still had it. I'm surprised it is this popular.

Adding Verizon PLUS adding WHITE for every single model doesn't help!

I second this... Have you tried Target method yet? I'm in Fort Myers and am I am going to try this tomorrow morning, I missed getting one at the Coconut Point Apple store this morning by 1 person.

I was shopping at Target last night (3/16) and stopped by the electronics department and the guy said they have not had any new shipments since last Friday? Am I SOL?

i'm on the other coast, and most stores in palm beach county has been zero since friday. maybe tomorrow? plus, i've been getting no news about 16 GB ipads anywhere on this thread.

I can totally believe the long lines on launch day were planned, that's great press. And I'm sure that's why the Friday afternoon launch and no preorders.

However I think Apple was caught with their pants down, and didn't expect the launch to be so huge.

1) They launched a month early to head off any traction from Xoom and the other new tablet platforms coming out this spring. So less time to build inventory

plus, alot of people that didn't get an ipad 1 wanted in since it was the first revision.

how do you do inventory check online?

Okay, well it looks like Friday is a shipment day for Target. Odd that almost everywhere else has daily shipments except Florida? Any other Floridians have luck?

i think someone in the northern parts of the state got luck. i think it's just south of i-4 that's been a strikeout. although i'm hearing there could be a big shipment tomorrow...

In looking at the inventories of numerous stores in the northeast one of the things that stuck out like a sore thumb was the fact that there were no 16gb wi fi in either color. I finally saw one show up into inventory on Wed at `10:30
Am WED in a Lower Nazareth Target (Pa). The model mix seems to be 32gb Black / 64 gb white as available and 32gb white Limited and 64 gb black limited.

Limited availability=one in stock
available= two or more in stock

Terrific Luck!

Sometimes you win, other times you lose.

I'm just shocked how my luck changed so quickly. It went from zero possibilities to owning five in just two days. I originally was planning on two, finally got them at AT&T.

The next day I came across this thread, prior to which I didn't take Target seriously. So I simply drove to one that's less than a half mile from home. They had three more, so I bought them to re-sell. What a stroke of luck!

I've already sold them, funds are deposited and I'm still finding it hard to believe. Hopefully your luck will be like mine!

I must say reading this Target thread is quite interesting. The stories are really something :)

Hopefully!! Im in Tampa and there has been zero shipments here as well. Kinda frustrating.

Maybe its a once-a-week deal here! Good luck, I doubt I am going to stand in line at Apple anymore, its too frustrating.

I really hope there SOMETHING tomorrow...anything! I have a reservation with BB cause I wanted to use my reward points but eff it ill take w/e now. Good luck to you too!

Scalper!!! git

Keep checking. Yesterday my local Target on line said none . Last night changed to available. . after having clerk check stock room this morning they had two of the one I wanted...I was able to purchase one. Checked online when I got home and it had changed to limited availability.

When I personally tried Norwalk, CA (For White 64 GB WiFi), we insisted they check the back and the electronics person kept insisting they were out. They said others had previously checked also. The store still says Available (Not sure about 32GB).

I know the feeling:

The Santa Ana, CA Target showed "Available" for a couple of days. Finally I decided to go during my lunch break; don't worry, I had checked the online inventory immediately before leaving work. 15 minutes later the lady at the Electronics register was insisting that they had none in stock AFTER I had described the iPad 2 I was looking for. She entered the stock number in the computer a few times and shrugged. Since this was my first attempt (I think it was yesterday, Wednesday) I didn't press the issue and left the store. I called the store later that night since the stock was still showing as "Available" . Instead of transferring myself to Electronics, I chose to speak with a customer service rep. I asked them if they could look up a DCPI# for me. After a few minutes she stated that the system was down and if I could describe the product. I did and she immediately stated that they do not have any in stock. A couple hours later, the online stock changed from "Available" to "Limited Availability" and finally to "Out of Stock" over the course of an hour. The fact that I was able to catch the discrete changes in inventory made me very suspicious.

I think your success is highly dependent on the attitude and mood of the employee you interact with; note that I am not saying you were doing it wrong, but that some employees are stubborn. This is just human nature that you are sampling. Some other people have been noting that the online inventory system is accurate in that it will add stock that is scanned in and subtract that same stock when scanned out. This leads me to believe that someone more persistent than me had gone to the Santa Ana store and finally found an employee who knew how to use the inventory location system.

Then again I have no facts to base this on, but I did pick up a new Black, 32gb WiFi only iPad 2 this morning using this same system. This time though, I got lucky in that another store I went to had more knowledgeable staff.

Who just got the 32Gb black wifi in Rancho California (Temecula)? I gonna head out for that!! But thanks, far too far from SD, but was thinking about it.

Dont even bother with Walmart folks. When you see it available online and once you waded past all the decrepits to the back of the store and wait for the old one behind the counter to adjust her hearing aid and they say "no we dont have any" and you say about the online system there is no way past that to get them to go check the stock room or the computer. Tried in two stores showing available today.
But I would say its the online system is the problem and not the shopkeepers, staff, team members or whatever they are called nowadays.

Hopefully the target thing will pan out for me some day soon. Problem is I am getting tempted by the cheaper Xoom now with the pre-orders launched

Okay, you hog at least three iPads that you don't even need, and we're supposed to be celebrating your "good luck"?

I'm really dismayed that Target isn't putting a limit on how many iPads each person can buy at once. It should be two, maximum.

I got one from that store this morning.

Before work I drove to the Silver Spring Target at 7:00am. There was only one person waiting in line, a fellow MacRumors forum reader. We had nice discussions while we waited until the store opened. Eventually one other MacRumors forum reader showed up, and the three of us went to electronics when the store opened at 8.

There were no iPad 2s in the display case. We told the manager that we were there for iPad 2 and he quickly said they were sold out. Before we even had to explain the DCPI situation, a store worker told him that they got them overnight. We waited a few minutes while the manager went back and brought out four iPads. We each got our preferred model.

The key is not to call the store and just go before the store opens. The overnight crew who unloads the trucks usually scans the shipments, thus updating the online inventory. If it says 'Available' before the store opens then it's there. I'm assuming there is a lapse between the time when the inventory is actually depleted to when it shows up as out of stock.

I was the one in line when you got there. Enjoy your iPad!

Target inventory system lag

I purchased only one in stock at 8:00am yesterday morning and time elapsed between "limited avail." at purchase and "out of stock" was about 30-40 minutes in my case. Just a FYI. Good Luck all. Keep checking, it works.

You are who we don't like! Stop trying to make a quick buck and let people who want just one by them. Instead of you hogging all of the stock!

The store I went to had 5 and I wanted to buy 2 and they told me one per customer per day. They said come back tomorrow. I checked the stock the next morning and the location is now out of stock.

Here in NYC, I used the Target stock checker links from page 8 of this thread and sure enough a store in the Bronx listed Limited Availability for the Verizon 3G 64GB version.

I made the trek there after work today, but unfortunately there were none on hand in the display case. As I walked over to a store inventory checker to review the #'s from this thread to see if any were maybe in the store stock, a guy in front of me had a printout and was doing the EXACT SAME THING! We were both there for the same model from the limited availability rating from the website and unfortunately stock read "no".

After he left I typed in every stock # (all 18) since I had made the trek way up there after work, and sadly 0's all around. HUGE Target BTW, I would have been surprised if there were some iPad's in stock.

sorry to hear, NYC or places closer are tricky
