It worked - thanks!

Thanks to the person(s) who posted the look-up links and everyone's advice here. It totally worked on my second try. I wanted the 64GB White ATT and for some reason that's about all Target is getting around here (OC, CA). Woke up this morning, saw "available" for a couple stores in the area, drove there, got to the door at about 7:20. A few more people showed up. About 5 minutes before 8:00 am some manager dude came to the door, said they had two (the ones listed as available online), picked the first two of us in line and said they'd get from stock for us.

Not only did this forum help (I just logged in for first time Thursday) but Target totally handled it well, so that others in line couldn't cut in the store (scalper mules will RUN in the store - it's bizarre).

Was very happy to come home and cancel my Apple order, scheduled to deliver mid-April.

Good luck everyone finding the model you want.

Missed out again by 2 minutes 2 days in a row. Guy before me bought two, the only two in the store.... that too 8:05am! :(
Quite disappointing...

B*llsh*t

Note: I'm specifically trying to be unclear/full of plot-holes here, as to not implicate any current employees. I'm also a long-time reader, but this is my FP.

First of all, I got my iPad2 this morning from one of the Target stores. The inventory status is 100% real-time. The horde of us bought out what's available (according to the electronics sales rep) in the store, and the online inventory tracker updated within minutes to say it's not available anymore.

For the particular store I went to, there were at least 2 models listed as "Available". When I got there, we formed a line and waited outside. When the store opened, we all walked in a line to the electronics counter (the whole bunch of us were very courteous). We asked the guy if they had iPad 2s in stock, and he basically came out with 3. (So now we know if there are 3 or more in the store, it's listed as "Available".)

However, all 3 were of the same model! Now that is just weird. We know that the tracker is real-time, and that these are all scanned in. So it's improbable that this was some sort of human error. Therefore, there must be some of the other model in the back. However, the person kept saying no, there weren't any available.

Now here's the kicker...while we were waiting, one of the other employees told us to come back later, because Target is doing the "hold the supplies to get customers to come back" deal. We didn't believe him, but he said, "ok, which one do you want?" We gave him a model, and he showed us the clipboard and pointed to the entry, "Look, it's right here, and we have X in stock. Management is doing the hold-the-supplies game for the iPad 2s, trust me. They want to create an image of shortage so people will keep trying to come back."

All this while, no one in the line mentioned about the inventory tracker. So his story jives with what the online tracker is saying. And after we approached other sales representatives to talk to the manager about this, they sure did spend their time "talking" to the manager about whether or not they got any.

Believe whatever you will, but given my experience, this does seem to be in line with why there are false positives in the trackers, and the "fiduciary duties" of Target to try and get more revenue.

wrong available is 2+

i hope target gets something allocated into south florida at all. most of palm beach county has gotten squat. and we have gotten nothing today.

i may have to think about buying the 32 GB ATT model if the wait gets too long.

Glad I did not get up early and drive around looking for one, last night I saw one Target in Boynton Beach had limited inventory of a 16gb White wifi, OOS today.

When and what model? I checked the stock in the NYC area in the middle of the night and again this AM and I did not see the stock change.

Got the black 32gig wifi on thursday morning around 8:15am. There was not one other person there buying an iPad (or anything for that matter). They are probably out of stock now but the moral of the story is the inventory link is spot on just keep checking and maybe you will luck out like I did.

Got a white 16gb WiFi at Commack South store. Inventory check has been showing Out of Stock for AT&T, the one I wanted. On a whim, I went to Target and there were 2 of the white 16 gb wifi; they had no other models. I thought I might as well get it. I love having my 3G iPad "1" but I'd be saving $130 and $30/month for data (grandfathered unlimited).

If Best Buy ever calls me for the 3G I reserved on 3/12, I'll make the decision on which one to keep. Loving Target's 90 day return policy ;)

You must have purchased yours just before I did.

I picked up a white 16gb 3g this morning at our local target, it's been in there inventory a few days. I wanted wifi only because I have a clear hotspot. I just got tired of checking inventory ad seeing out of stock.

Do you guys think target will get shipment tonight or will it not be until store opening on Monday/Tuesday.

thanks to the locator, i found out there is a few at Rosemead Target here in los angeles, drove there and got the last one. it's a white 16G wifi. i also ordered one through AT&T store 16G black with 3G and that one is still in holding stage. the bad thing about it is there will be a 15% restocking fee if i return the ipad used. oh well, i'll decide when my AT&T ipad finally gets here. i'll be enjoying my wifi ipad in the meantime. once again thanks to whoever came up with the locator app.

from what i heard, targets don't get shipments on sundays, and many don't get any on saturdays either. you'll have to wait until monday.

Are we talking they'll get a shipment for Monday, which would technically be Sunday after midnight? OR wait until tuesday morning because they'll get a shipment monday night.

I know we can't really specify details but i'm just trying to clarify what you are saying and figure out with the whole over night delivery/business day type stuff.

stores would usually get a shipment in monday between midnight and 4 am, to be ready for monday morning.

Which Target did you find that in? There has been none of them in inventory in a big radius from my area. Too bad we didn't find the one we wanted, but I think I may just stick with the WiFi even if Best Buy calls me for the 3G.

Yay... we both have white iPads :)

Scored White 16gb Wifi @ Santa Ana Ca. store

First thanks to Virtute for the locators and everyone else who's shared there knowledge.

After seeming to be always one step behind getting my preferred 32Gb Black Wifi (twice this week the last one was being sold just as I got to the electronics counter)I found a 16gb white wifi's at Bristol st. Target in Santa Ana CA. It was strange that they seem to just come up on the locator later in the morning 11 ish, i checked it @ 6am and nothing showed. called store and the clerk said they had 4 left. Got there in 5 maybe 10 minutes and got the 2nd to last one. The clerk said they had sold out earlier that morning and then around 10am the manager brought out more. Either way keep checking it.

Good luck to everyone.

San Jose North is showing 64gb White Verizon as "Available" but I called and the electronics dept. says they have none in stock.

That's a heck of a drive for me to get a model that I don't particularly want... so I think I'll pass. But any other brave souls can give it a shot.

went to my Local Target, as I am walking up to the case I see 4 Ipad boxes, for a split second i was thinking sweet..as I got closer I realized they were Version 1's :(
