1) This is a terrible argument for justifying reselling.

2) There would not be a market for resellers if people like you didn't do this. It's people like you that are propagating the shortage, and this shortage causes "less eager" people to resort to buying from resellers.

Besides that, your statement is literally false. The fact that there are still so many of us LOOKING for iPads is testament to the fact that even if we ARE eager, we CANNOT do what you did. If we could, then we wouldn't still be looking. We have the same information as you do, the only difference is we don't buy up every damned iPad that we see. I don't want a 64 gb iPad so I didn't buy the two that I saw.
1) I don't have to justify anything.

2) Nice try, but the market was already there and it came to me.

You should know by now life's not fair, especially in AppleLand :)

I'm in So Cal as well and I have yet to see a single store in my general area of about 10 stores that have any of the iPads in the last 3 days that I have been looking for them.
I've searched both White, Black and Wifi and 3G models.

You wanna be more specific where in Greater So Cal you are?

Well in real so cal there has been no additional stock to target all week

I picked up one Wednesday at a Target in 91344. They had two 64G 3G blacks, and several assorted Wi-Fi only models at the time. During the time I was there 8AM-845AM, the one other guy there ahead of me and myself bought the only two 3G models while the rest just sat there.

Soon I'll be looking for a 64G 3G White, the wife really wants one with a pink smart cover now. My kid is the luckiest 10 y.o. who now gets to inherit daddy's old 64G 3G model.

Pasadena East, CA just showed limited availability. Literally just changed, called twice to confirm if they have it or not.

The lady told me they "expect it at the end of the month." They might just be saying that to lower call volumes. Asked her to enter the DPCI number and she said nothing showing up.

Anyways, still have no luck but I've dissected the URL a bit, and played around with the variables. I was able to bypass the entering of the zip code, now I have a dashboard widget that shows if any are in stock.

If you change the first bolded variable, which is the DPCI one to match the one that you would like (See Page 8 for list of DPCI). Also change the zip code. It should immediately direct you too the stock list and show you if it's available. From there I right clicked and added to Dashboard. So no more reloading, chasing for the link, entering zip code every 1 minute etc...

I'm definitely going to be trying in the morning before 8AM. Good Luck!

HELP Please Test A VideoPlayer In Your iPad or iPad2:
I'm trying to decide if I should get the iPad2 or Xoom
I need to know if the Longtail Video player plays on the iPad2
If you already have an iPad will you google " longtail video gallery "
There is a 1) Nasa Launch Video and a 2) Vancouver Canada video.
Do the two videos play OK in the iPad or iPad2?

You don't HAVE to justify it but it seems like you're trying to justify it by making it seem like anyone else would have done the same thing in your shoes. You have a bunch of people telling you what you did was wrong, and you know that because of your actions people are paying more for iPads than what they are worth, and that other people can't get iPads because of you. It's not criminal, but I don't think it's doing the right thing either.

And a big lol @ "the market was already there and it came to me" ..is this what all resellers can claim? You're a PART of the market, there is no before and after. No one brought it to you, you helped create it.

"Life's not fair", that's just another copout. You could steal someone's car and tell them life isnt fair, that doesn't make what you did right. The claim that life isnt fair is not really relevant.

You don't have to try to defend yourself to me..I'm just trying to explain why so many of us are attacking you. The bottom line is you're here to make money. Just man up and admit it, instead of acting like you're "stimulating the economy" or doing what we all would have done, etc.

Yes, they play just fine on the iPad2.

Strange, I've seen several people in this very thread (myself included) who have gotten iPads at Target is SoCal. Orange County in my case.

For sure some stores got stock on Tuesday and Wed. And I'm pretty sure I saw some people on Thursday reporting stores in SoCal with new stock.

The secret is to check before they open.

Where exactly is "real so cal"? I'm in San Diego (pretty much the furthest south you can get in Cali) and I bought one at Target yesterday using the inventory links in this forum. I'm using it to reply to this.

San Diego too and that's what I meant.
Have never seen the inventory change but I have been looking for wifi only

I live in the Houston area and have not seen inventory change for the wifi only. I have a clear hot spot so I don't need the 3 g.

Cool! Got mine at Grossmont. There was one black 64gb wifi in Poway on Wednesday but I fell for the lady telling me they didn't have any and didn't check for myself. The guy at Grossmont said they didn't have any as well. I went to the scanner and typed in the stock number and showed it to him. He went into the back and it was there. A white 64gb wifi. I love it! Keep checking! Don't take no for an answer. They have no idea they are back there.

How did you know for sure there was one at Poway? Been looking for a 64 gb black wifi myself but have that pesky job thing that ties me up until 6-7 pm every day

Target stock checker site is down currently

I was just about to post the same thing. I checked it about 30 mins ago and it didnt work. I checked again now to see if maybe it was just going through maintenance (which it still might very well be) but still no luck it says:

"We're sorry! This page is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I stopped by there tonight and they didn't have any. They did have every color of the smart covers though. The guy told me that their online status is always delayed, which wasn't always true because I was able to buy one from a "limited availability" Target in Bakersfield.

The [im]morality of reselling is an interesting discussion topic. I imagine a lot of people would prefer that this thread not get cluttered up by that discussion but, to be honest, is there really anything "new" to report in this thread? It's more of a "congrats" thread at this point, which is great, and which is probably why the topic of reselling is going to be met with a lot of anger here. As far as factual information is concerned, I think it can be boiled down to the following:

1) The direct links are great. This inventory tracker is, for the most part, very accurate and gets updated within an hour.

2) It's not always 100% accurate, but that's due to specific store situations where someone screwed up somewhere. This could be due to a store incorrectly selling one model as another (if that's possible, I would think it shouldn't be as they would be scanning these boxes, right?), them losing the box in the back somewhere (which would mean that they'll eventually show up, thus proving the inventory system still accurate, someone stealing the item, or an employee hiding the item so that they can purchase it later).

3) Inventory can arrive late in the night (when the store is closed), so checking the inventory before the store opens can provide a good game plan for where to go.

4) By and large, Target's policy now seems to be "one per customer." YMMV.

5) Target isn't well equipped to deal with lines outside of the store, so when the gates open in the morning, it's usually a case of whoever gets to the electronics department first, wins.

If the OP is still following this thread, I would recommend posting this information in the original post, along with the direct links.

As far as reselling, I'm tempted to post my opinions here, but would probably prefer to post it in a separate non-congrats thread, as my opinion on the subject probably won't be appreciated by many here. I'll just say that if you think it's "immoral" for someone to expend time/effort/gas to buy a unit to resell for a profit, then what about what Apple is doing? People who purchased from the Apple online store on day 2 or so got a "4-5 week" estimate, yet we see that Apple is still shipping small quantities to Target day after day, instead of sending those units to people who purchased online from Apple a week ago.

got one!

Just got back home from Target... got the last one there this morning, two were sold in front of me. The site said "Limited Availability" before I drove there...

I got a White WiFI 64GB, the two in sold before me were both Black WiFi 32G models.

The store was Manassas West (used zip 20109). Very nice folks there!

I originally wanted a 3G model...

But as of 8:30 this morning, out of stock is still what's being reported in the mid hudson valley. I guess no saturday deliveries??? Anybody know?:(

The main purpose of this thread i think so that people who still don't have ipad have the chance to have it,not for some scalper or reseller. And if you have your ipad by using your own method other than this, feel free to do so.
People don't like it cause you misuse the information in this thread for your own advantage.

IMO comparing reselling to what Apple may or may not be doing is comparing apples to oranges. Again, effort/resources expended is not enough to justify an action, so it only clutters an argument to bring that up. Morality doesnt depend on how much effort something took you. And quite frankly we don't know thats what apple is doing. Some here speculated that apple shipped X units to BB for 3/11 and X units to target for 3/11, and that BB handed out X units to customers on 3/11 while target might have sold 0.5X units that day..choosing to hold back stock and spread it out over the course of a week or two. This seems the likely scenario, as targets new shipments are obviously coming from their own distribution warehouses, and Best Buys are claiming that anything new they are getting is going to be dropshipped directly from Apple.

Besides that, if apple had a contract with BB and Target, which they clearly do, then BB and Target are technically Apple's customers, not the end user. They have an obligation to BB and Target first if BB and Target "placed their orders" before some of the people on apple.com.

All Chicago area stores reporting out of stock last night and since checking reguarly from 7am this morning (and right now, as of 8:10)...
