entering dpci as the search item does not work.
it may work for one or two though and in a few days that one may not work.
eg. 057-10-1831 worked until thursday. gives no result now.
057-10-18* doesnt list ipad 2's either

then find in store should check the stock. not the search itself
I have location services turned off for the app

I'm assuming you were talking about that actual tool, but the app works fine with DPCI. The info in the app is pulled from the exact same place as the website. It just works a little differently.

You can only search by where you are. The app uses your GPS to search the closest Targets. But instead of returning a list of every store, it only shows results if a store has the item in stock.

So if it says no results found, it's not in stock near you. If a store has it, it will show up.

How do you know the quantity?

Is that the correct number to use when searching? When I put it in it finds nothing(could be because there are not any around) But I tested out the Target App search using the availability of the old Ipad from the Target Website and had to put in the number in parenthesis, Apple® 64GB iPad™ with Wi-Fi (MB294LL/A) and it found the Ipad 64gb wifi listing from the site...but none in stock any where near me

There is some abiguity when using the app. That's why I made sure to get the store manager on the phone. Once confirmed he did indeed have iPad 2's I authorized him to charge my card. That way I knew they would not be mistakenly sold before I arrived. I also know that if in the event there was a problem upon my arrival, I have the protection of my credit card company on my side.

All turned out very well and I picked up the iPad 2's I had arranged for.

One thing I do know about all these big box stores is they cannot afford top quality employees in all departments, especially if they must spend time on the phone with people that waste their time with questions of dubious value.

I minimize my risk by connecting with a manager that has a vested interest in the store. They know exactly what is happening.

Gotta run, my app shows 3 at another store.

Good luck to everyone!

Cheers :)

Just makin' this stuff up as you go along. LOL. Probably a twelve year old who doesn't drive.... California dreamin'.... LOL.

I work for Target as a ETL. And under no circumstances ever are we allowed to charge a credit card without the card holder present, due to liability issues. Plus we have a strict policy against resellers and only allow them to buy one per day. We also unfortantly do not hold any high demand items such as the ipads. Policys do very from store to store. But every target follows the policy of not being allowed to charge a person credit card with out the card holder present. So i find it hard to believe any of what the above poster says.

These two points seem to contradict each other. How do you determine whether or not a manager has a "vested interest" in the store?

Oh, and your continued bragging about how many you've purchased while simultaneously wishing people good luck is a bit like pouring salt in a wound. You should probably stop while you're ahead.

Ozred, talk about BUSTED..

Would seem to be the case. Ozred is the only poster I've heard of who has been able to do this, and that's saying something given the national reach these fora have.

Wow, he typed a whole paragraph with perfect spelling and grammar all on his iPhone4 while on the move to his next iPad. Lmfao.

Just went to a target in south Orlando, FL that listed the black 32gb wifi model as "limited availability." I asked the guy to look up the DCPI and when he did, the machine said they didn't even stock ANY product with that number. He then scanned the bar codes on the display shelf and it said they were all out. What gives?

The stock numbers work. I used the one for a black wifi 32gb to pick one up from the target in Hunters Creek last Wednesday.

The only downside to searching with the iPad/iPhone target app is that it seems slower for me. Doesn't it take about twice as long for one search than the web links for anyone else? Is there a way to have it search more than one number? It's faster to run through a couple numbers here on the computer than to use the target app for me.

LOL. At least he is off the street and not out mugging some old lady. Better to sit in front of the computer screen with the parental controls in place (this IS a G rated site, after all... Lol ) than be out causing trouble. Agitating adults is probably way more fun to a twelve year old. If his parent knew what he was doing here he would most probably get a spanking... Lol.

I believe that they work. I just don't understand why the machine said there was no such item. Apparently no one else has run into this issue. Maybe I'll go back and try a different employee (it still says limited availability).

OK, I made some updates per suggestions. Internal documentation is now more specific. I should note you can probably use non-gmail sendmail servers, but I didn't feel like fiddling with that part too much. Also, I wrapped the tracking routine with exception handling to deal with cases when the server doesn't respond. When you start tracking you will get an initial email so you can make sure it is working.

Awesome script. Thanks so much for providing it to the community. Just a question...does the script accommodate for the status "Limited Availability" or is it just checking for "Available"? Thanks again.

Checked 2 different zip codes in two different states and not one model changed from out of stock. is that just bad luck for me or did no stores get anything on a sunday night?

It is def more then possible to have gotten that many iPads. I bought two on launch day( one for me , one for my bro in law ) and I have stood in line on 3 diff occasions and left cause they didn't have AT&T but could have bought wifi or Verizon. So I would have been able to buy 8 iPads in a couple days with not to much trouble.

nothing

in north chicagoland last night either.

on another note; Prices seem to be dropping on iPad2's for sale on eBay.
I spent some time looking at completed listings last night and while there were a few with bid prices that would have yielded the scalper around $4-$500, most were selling in a range that would basically be a $50-$150 premium. Really? all that bother for $50?

I forgot to mention this previously...the first time I stopped by a Target I gave the employee the DPCI number. He typed it in but the number wasn't valid. He then remembered that when typing in DPCI numbers directly, he had to type something else first. I didn't catch exactly what that was. He then found it in the system. When he later told a manager to check the stock, the manager made the same mistake when typing the number into his portable scanner.

Where do you live? The stores in the Eugene, OR are haven't gotten shipments since last tuesday, and they had very few then.

Thank you for the link

After checking the Target Links last week with no success I finally found and purchased a White 32G Verizon Ipad 2 this morning at the Bay Shore Target on Long Island, I originally wanted an AT&T ipad but have come to realize that for me it did not make any difference. I don't travel abroad, I have an AT&T Iphone, so now I have a bit of network redundancy, plus I can get the cheaper 1gb per month verizon plan which should suit my needs.

I was a bit worried I wasn't going to get there in time, LI Am rush hour is the pits but I got there at 8:10 and it was waiting for me in the display cabinet, no line no fuss!! Now I have to work all day but I will play tonight!

Staten island

That explains it then lol. Eugene isn't exactly a metropolitan area, less than half a million. But we have a bestbuy, 3 walmarts and 2 targets all within 20 minutes of each other. NONE have had stock. It's pretty crazy.

It's not infallible. Went to Northridge Target today, their stock counts are off. They got a shipment of Gen 1 instead of Gen 2.

I know how to get them to check too, they went to the truck and pulled the box off. So wifey will need to wait a bit longer.
