System works here in MA. I checked the Target around the corner, said available. I called, and yep there are a few there. My Apple Store order just came from Fed Ex so I will pass. E-bay resale also looks like its not worth it to go get it and try to make a few bucks (<$150.00) . System does work and thanks to the OP for the links and info!

Links worked perfectly in Wheaton MD minutes ago. I knew the IPads had arrived before the guys in receiving!! Only bought one (because I'm not a whore) and left 4 beauties behind. Thanks for the amazing intel everyone!!

After no changes in stock for nearly a week (for any of the stores near me), one store 20 minutes from me was showing available this morning. I got there 10 minutes after 8:00. Two people were there buying the only two that Target got in stock. I literally missed by a matter of minutes.

Been answered a million times, I'm sure, but, does Target typically have stock at 8am or are units not hitting the floor until later?

Success!

Around 10:40am today I checked the link for the 64GB Black AT&T model. Only the Chantilly store showed stock and since that store is a good 40 min away I called and was told that they had none.

A minute later, the Falls Church store showed stock. I called them and was told they didn't have any. I asked politely if they could verify that with the warehouse and after 5 min on hold was told they had gotten some iPads and they were still being unpacked but that I should get myself to the store ASAP.

I drove there and was able to get one. There were a couple other people getting them at the same time, but they had at least 10 more. Not sure which models as the display case was shielded by an employee. The guy who rang me up did say that they didn't get any Verizon models today.

I happily cancelled my Apple web order that wasn't due to ship until April 1st.

Congrats on some Northern Virginia success!

I'm in Chantilly. Looking for a black 16GB wifi. Looks like a few places around NOVA showed stock. Leesburg did, so did Falls Church, maybe.

Sterling West showed stock, but, I talked to a nice girl and she went and looked for me and said they only had 3 and they were already all gone.

Kinda leads into my question earlier which was did these not hit the floor until around 10:30? If so, that may be the time to head to the store, not 8am...

Just picked up a black 32 gig wifi at the Clifton (NJ) target. Not my first choice but I'll take it.

Site said "Available" and there were about 5 or 6 in a glass case (all 32 gig black wifi).

The clerk said they came in about an hour ago. So the time to start looking might be middle of the morning. When I checked earlier in the day there was no stock available.

I'm just glad this whole ordeal is over.

Thanks to the OP and those who have provided links and feedback.

Yesss!!!!

A big thanks to everyone who's posted on this thread, particularly the folks who wrote the Python program!

I've had the Python program running in a Terminal window since last night and it's been checking local Target inventory for all 64GB models every 10 minutes since then. This morning at 10:35 I got notified that a local Target had stock black 64GB AT&T iPad 2's (exactly what I was looking for), so I jumped in the car, and sure enough, they had 'em! I bought two of 'em and asked the security guard (who was stocking the cabinet for whatever reason) how long they lasted once they got stock. She said "they don't." She also told me that they'd only had them for about 30 minutes and that's about how long it took for me to get to the Target from my house.

FWIW my Target was only selling one per person so my wife and I bought one each (and yes, we have jobs, we're just off work today).

Thanks again! I'll now cancel my Apple Store order and my Best Buy pre-order!

I think it varies by store...

Two of my local stores seem to have gotten stock this morning, but it didn't show up in the online system until sometime after opening. I had checked before coming to work and nothing was available around here, then around 10:30-11 two stores showed available for 4 different models (all wifi only.)

I ran over to Montgomeryville and they have a about a dozen in the case. Grabbed one and no one else was around. I don't think they've had any since release day though, so people may have stopped checking there.

Atlanta success

Two stores in Atlanta have them.

One store had five (5) 16GB Wi-Fi black models. I purchased one here (ironically enough I had gone to the exact store an hour beforehand, so they gave me honest information when I called to confirm).

The other also had 16GB white models.

Due to the general laziness epidemic in Atlanta, there could be more to come over the next day or two, but they're in no rush to unpack them.

Aw. Lucky. My python terminal is running at home. I'm at work now. I'm hoping sometime this week, I will get an email notification of available stock at one of my local Targets.

 Did you stop reading his post after that sentence ?

Gee sarcastic jackass, I should have clarified:

I was ALSO with my wife - they didn't allow us to buy two (we didn't play the game of one person walking in the door then another).

Sorry did not know you were with your wife as well(not sure how I would have known). But if its one purchase per person and there were 2 of you, what was there logic for only allowing you to buy one? And well I can't argue with the "scarcastic" part :D

Lindros, sorry but I thought the same thing from the way you posted.

Sounds like the actual clarification is that your Target "only allowed one purchase per party", which is ridiculous. I hate it when customer service people count two individuals as one "party", especially for items that are intended for individuals (versus family desktop computers)

I missed out on the last white 16GB Wifi at the East Cobb Target about an hour ago :( I walked in as they were handing it to somebody else, totally made my stomach drop. I was literally beat by minutes.

What store had 5? only 16GB wifi black I saw were in buckhead but that was just not even close for me to drive on my lunch break.

One left at target in Apex NC

Just purchased a Wi-fi Ipad 2 at the Target store in Apex NC. They still have a Verizon black one and there was no one in the electronics department. No line.

Good Luck

Looks like Wheaton, MD still has white 32GB's left. They are showing as "Available". Shame I'm holding out for the 64GB. Oh well, April 1 is how long away...? 10 days.

Buckhead had five black.

As per above post, it was one purchase per party.

Got one!

Checker finally showed 'available' in my area this morning. Got the kids dressed (Spring Break) and heading down to Target. I got there about 20 minutes before it opened and was the only person in line. About 10 minutes before it opened another guy came. He said he was told by a Target employee to try back today so he thought he would give it a shot. When the door opened we walked to Electronics and told the employee we were here for the Ipads. He had two black 32 Wifi is all, both in the case. By the time he walked to the case and opened it up a third person showed up. I felt really bad for that guy, he missed it by 10 minutes.

Thank you so much to the OP I hope everyone finds one soon!

Jen
PS - I haven't gotten much time to play with it yet as the kids are hogging it, but so far it's a lot of fun!

I know there have been a million posts on this so far, but just wanted to reinforce:

I've been stalking Portland, OR target inventory like a hawk for a week now and saw one store (cascade station) suddenly switch to Available today after no new stock for about a week. Heart pounding, called them - they obviously said they had none. I asked them to check again since the inventory said they were in. Girl on phone went to do something for 20 seconds or so and said, "yep, none in stock." So I hung up.

Couldn't shake the feeling she was wrong so I tried calling customer service and didn't mention ipad - just said "can you look up a product code for me?" CS said "I almost guarantee we don't have any, but I'll check anyway" Comes back a minute later with the "It's your lucky day!!" bit.

So I rushed down and my new ipad is now syncing!

FWIW - two other pdx targets are now showing available. must have gotten a mid-morning shipment.

thanks again to the OP and all others for the stories.

Now that I'm at a laptop, some additional info: Checked stock before opening this morning, none in stock. The stock shifted to Available at around 10am. When I got to the Wheaton, MD store, the guy in Electronics insisted that they had no stock. I asked him to look, he agreed to look in the electronics stock room, but refused to "go upstairs." After (nicely) pushing back a few times, he eventually said, "there's the manager, you can ask her if you want." The manager called receiving and then they checked and confirmed receipt of a shipment. Eventually, the guy from receiving came down (with a security guard) and the 5 iPads. They grilled me on how I knew about the stock before the guys in receiving even knew they had them, called it a "cheater's system." I corrected them, said I was following an intelligent system. :)

Also, apologies for the earlier whore comment. Perhaps that was the adrenaline of the moment...and the frustration of having read one too many gloating posts from resellers on this forum. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

So close...Target Reservations?!?!?

To my extreme delight this morning, only one Target store in Charlotte, NC was showing 16GB Black iPads as "Available" so I did what any one of us would do and drove as fast as I could to get one. I checked the glass iPad case and unfortunately didn't see any there so I tracked down the Electronics Dept. clerk. The clerk indicated that they had in fact received 5 iPads that morning and were already sold out. I explained to him that the inventory tracker was extremely accurate and up-to-date and he said it could take 24 hours to update. Before leaving him, I asked him to double check the back room. He first got an assistant store manager and that's when the truth came out. Apparently, this Target never received any shipment of iPads on the first iPad2 sales day and the Electronics clerk on that day allowed the first five people in line to "reserve" an iPad. Imagine my surprise hearing this from the assistant store manager! So the truth be told, the inventory tracker was extremely up-to-date because this Target store still had their inventory nicely hidden in the back room while they waited for the five folks with reservations to come and pick them up! The clerk indicated that he wasn't supposed to tell anyone that they had received iPads today since they were technically "reserved".

The assistant manager indicated that he had called the five people that morning and heard from two of them that they would get their iPads today. He left messages for another two giving them 24-hours to get their iPads and the final customer indicated they had gotten an iPad elsewhere and didn't need the reservation any longer and the Target store already sold that one.

Of course I asked if I could be put on some "reservation" list if these folks went past their 24-hour period and didn't get their iPads and of course the manager indicated they aren't doing reservations anymore because of the chaos that can ensue! No kidding! Why in the heck did they do it in the first place!?!?! Now I'm left with calling the store every hour of so to see if anyone else with a reservation has backed out. Worst case, I will have to wait until the 24-hours expires tomorrow at 11am to see if I can get one.

Anyone else experience a Target doing this? Extremely frustrating!

Mike
