You really think this is still some big secret just among us on this forum?

I agree. Furthermore, I don't think Glaxx deserve that. He/she is just trying to help. I'll also waiting for one to show up at my local Target store but I'm still thankful for that web app. I guess "all good things come to those who wait." :)

By the way, I don't think that out of all the people who visit MR, none of them is a scalper!

@ Glaxx .. You Will Kill The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg
Many of the people have come to this forum so they may have a chance to get their hands on a still Rare ad Hard To Fing iPad2.
Many people in this forum have still not been able to locate one in their area.
The Result Of Your Website: Your webpage URL can simply be emailed to every Tom, Dick and Harry. Killing our (the people in this forum) chances of securing an iPad2 of our choice.
The Hordes of people who still stand in line at Apple Stores will now be able to gobble-up all the iPad2's before we have a chance to get one.
I beg of you, please, please, please take down the website. ... Thank You

Your post is so very wrong for several reasons:

1. Publicly accessible - This site, as well as the Target inventory site, are open to the public and do not require authentication.

2. A poster who wants to create/modify a script to parse results based on input and then share that link in a public forum should be allowed to without complaint. If anything they should be thanked for making the data that's publicly available easier to access

3. It's a free country, and there is no secret club or anything else for the iPad 2. Target is just one option available for purchasing an iPad 2. They just happen to make it a bit easier to track down than other sellers, and some gracious posters have dedicate their time creating websites and scripts for the collective community to use, regardless of your status with MR (and well within their rights to promote those sites anywhere they please).

no, but you can't "like" the script on facebook by clicking a button, or easily e-mail it out, etc. a website that does it for you is a lot more shareable than a script that you have to download and run..

Agreed, but there are also probably thousands of folks looking for iPads with no knowledge of this forum or this guys site for that matter. I have seen only one and purchased one(for wife) and am currently looking for another. This guys site has just given me another tool and I'm not really worried about the "word" getting out about Target's system or the website. Have you noticed the length of this thread? I'd say that the word is out. Until inventory catches up "Early bird gets the worm." is still the rule for finding 'em.

+1 to that. Just because you use these tools doesn't guarantee you will be able to get an iPad 2, but they will increase your chances.

It's not so much that the "word" isn't out, it's that the site makes it that much more accessible. I think the number of people that are running the script is being underestimated; relatively few people are running the script. I'm not saying the site didn't have good intentions, I think he is great for wanting to help; it's just that I have been looking for 12 days without success, and I would rather not help other people get theirs before me, because I'm tired of this headache! :p

I created an account today JUST to say "thank you" to all the people who have contributed in one way or another by compiling links etc. to make finding an iPad a little easier. That being said, I FINALLY got my iPad today (thanks to this thread). Here's my quick story...

I've been trying all week in NoVa trying to score an iPad, but to no avail. I had yesterday and today off from work, so I figured that it would be a good time to try to and score one. I mean, I've been in Target/Best Buy more times than I can count LOL. Whenever I would see a notification stating "Limited Availibility," I would race to my car and try my luck (Springfield, VA Target). I've been calling Best Buy, and every now and then they would have a 16gb WiFi, but that's not what I wanted. I even went over to the Apple store in Clarendon yesterday around 7am, but got discouraged when I saw the line.

Let's skip ahead to today....my parents, who live in Arlington, invited me over for lunch. I'm hanging out with them and I figure I would use the iPad tracker in the Target link. When I put in their zip, I saw this for the first time...."Available." I said, "Dad, I gotta run out for a second...I think the Target up the street has the iPads."

The plan for the day was to order lunch from Jason's over in Tyson's Corner. My dad said he'd come along for the ride and we could pick up lunch afterwards. My parents live less than 5 minutes away from the Falls Church Target. I was in the car at 11:45 in in the Target by 11:49 hahahahaha. I was hustling....we go over to the electronics section and there are three people buying iPads. I find an employee and she takes me over to the display and they have two 32gb AT&T (white) iPads left. I told her that I would like to have both (one for my wife). She told me that the store policy for the iPad is one per customer....my dad then said he'd buy the other. WHEW. Long story short, I walked out of Target by 11:55 with the two iPads that I wanted all along.....again, THANK YOU to those who have contributed to this thread. If you are still looking, don't give up!!!!

*By the way....when I was buying the iPads, the lady at the register said that they had more in the back. Keep a close eye on the inventory of the Falls Church Target....

Who's to say that people living in your area are even going to use the web page? Sure it will make it more accessible to other but as other have stated, they are free game! I would LOVE to have an iPad especially after the ordeal that I have gone through to try and get one!

Yeah, I agree.. I'm not saying other people aren't entitled to use the tools, I just don't like sharing them before I get mine! I wouldn't feel this way if I already had mine haha.

Jealousy and envy, no.. selfishness, yes. But it's not like everyone else on here isn't. You wouldn't give up yours to someone else..

Jealous because there are people that have them before you. Envy towards the people that do have them. I'm sorry, I must not have gotten the memo that you are the voice of the macrumors forums. I am sure there are plenty of people on here that would give up there iPad if you truly needed it. I being one of them. But what ever, I don't really care, there are no iPad's any where near where I live. Oh the joys of living in a small town... :/

lol get off your high horse, you're taking me and this issue way too seriously. When did I claim to be the voice of MR? Someone said they think he should take the site down and i said "agreed." and then gave some reasons when you started questioning me. You don't have to agree with me but I certainly don't think I was overly argumentative or tried to force anything onto you. If you think the site is great, then fine, I don't care. All I was doing was saying why I don't think there should be a site. If those reasons are driven by my own greed or envy, then I can live with that, but I think those descriptors are a bit harsh given that we're talking about a stupid iPad lol. Anyway, I think we can at least agree that I have less greed or selfishness than a scalper.

Sorry if I came across in a negative light (honestly). I am always surprised at the brashness of some people on MR, and I think it brings out a little of it in myself.

Well, the responses are just about what I expected to get. I put it out there because I was using it to look for an iPad near me. I think I have found one, but we'll see if I get there first.

I'm not going to take it down unless it stops working because Target blacklisted my server or something like that. I'm still using it. If you don't want to share it, then that's fine with me. I'm all for sharing the Apple magic! :D

Best of luck getting the iPad you want. :apple:

Hard to believe that the Target scanners on the end caps aren't as accurate as the website. I typed in the DCPI for 2 different modes that the website listed as Available, and both were out of stock according to the scanner. Wasn't even going to bother to head to the electronics department, but went anyway, and there were 5 of each model in the locked case.

Wasn't the model I wanted, but I picked up one anyway in case I'm unable to find the one I want before my flight to Asia in a few weeks. It's nice that Target has a 90 day return policy.

Like I said I don't really even care... Not on a high horse at all. The only part that really irked me was your lack of care for others... It's something this world is missing.

As for people giving their iPad's to strangers, I ran across this article. It does happen... Glad to know that there still are caring people in this world! (That is not directed at you kokesh at all, I am just saying). Honestly, if I wasn't at my computer when you posted that I probably wouldn't have even said anything, but I was.

The journey is over

after countless attempts of going to the apple store, to being last on the list at Best Buy, failed attempts at walmart (who has a far inferior inventory tracker compared to T), walmart.com sending me the first gen instead of the sequel, the first Target I originally hit up - today rewarded me with the PRIZE! there were 3 friends glaring at the last 3 ipads -32G 3G ATT Black and after 1 said that he would take one, I then said me too, then after I bought mine - the other dude claimed the last one. Thanks Ro at the CC Target in SO CAL - you helped me conclude this epic journey

now part of the ipad2 fam as this is written from one

as my boy Lincecum said F*(^&()*^(*&^(*&^ YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Mad thanks to the ipad2 locator program!

Awesome. Terminal started pinging me they had a couple of the model I was looking for so I jetted down to Target.. THE WRONG TARGET. I felt like a dumbass in all the excitement. Needless to say when I got to the correct on they sold out 5 mins prior. Gah.

Anyways it's my first day of running this script and I thank the dev who came up with it! :D Hopefully the inventory site isn't getting a DoS attacked with everyone using it. :p

On a side note the Target inventory is a bit inaccurate at times. It's still showing inventory in places that does have any. :apple:

Oh and also thank you frgttnsemicolon for writing the original version of the script! I've written a lot of python but had never actually worked with those modules before.

No, thank YOU. ;) You have made some great enhancements and have been very generous with your time and help to this forum.

Now, if Apple would just make the iPad/iOS multiuser so I wouldn't have to contemplate buying another one...

A public thank you to everyone who was generous with their time to share all of this information. I have had the script running since last night and earlier this morning got a notification that the local target had availability for 32gb black wifi models (the one I was looking for). I raced over to the Target and was first in line. The guys at electronics were shocked I knew they had ipads because they had just barely scanned them in. Shortly after I arrived 2 more people showed up - all using the tracker information, btw. They received 5 ipads.

This was in Walnut Creek, CA and I would guess by now they are gone. While I was buying mine they were receiving multiple calls on the stock availability.

Again, thanks to all who have contributed. Now I just need to convince the wife this was a good decision! :D :)

Lets all get back on task!

Let me be the voice of reason(for the first time and probably the last) when I say, keep up the hunt using wizardry, websites, witchcraft or whatever until you find your object of desire(ipads people, ipads) and keep sharing your Target sucess here with us all. Good luck!!:D:D

A public thanks from me, as well...and a heads up. Target West Hollywood as of 20 minutes ago has stock. I bought a 32gb Wifi Black, only to walk to my car and see that the Best Buy next door had a HUGE shipment. When I got to Best Buy I saw that they had a 64 GB Wifi+3G black, though I had wanted the 64 GB Wifi Black, I decided to snag the ATT 3G version...I might connect it anyway. I want the extra space and who knows, maybe a 64 GB wifi will show up.

I went and returned the 32GB Wifi to Target. This was 20 minutes ago. I realize I might be giving a heads up to scalpers and those wanting one alike...but I'd rather put it out there and hope scalpers don't get a hold. Plus, I think the scalping is going to take a nosedive soon. Best Buy had a ton in stock, Target had at least 12, and I had access to all of them. I think we are going to see bigger stocks coming in on the regular.

Happy hunting. Obviously I had to the chance to buy multiple but the point isn't to scalp them, I could careless about flipping one on ebay...just wanted the one I've been looking for.

Thank You

I've been reading these forums for a couple years now, but never felt the need to register and post.

However, I did so today, because I wanted to thank everyone involved in setting up and participating in the thread. It's nice to see people who will never meet helping each other in such a fashion.

Thanks. One off-topic question if I may - Do the iPads ship with 4.0 installed, and can I activate it without upgrading to 4.3 first?
