my thanks to this thread: 2 iPad 2s in-hand

My thanks go out to H335 for starting this thread, and to j-a-x (post #179) and mo0620 (#185) for their contributions on p. 8.

After checking this board, this thread, and the links on that page repeatedly since launch day, the Target stores in my area finally showed some models as "Available". This morning, I showed up before opening and walked away with two iPad 2s (gifts for family).

My thanks also go out to those who continued to write and refine code to help everyone here, and to everyone else who posted for maintaining the supportive tone of the thread. After lining up early outside of an Apple store last week (2nd in line, only to find out at 7:15 that they didn't have what I wanted that day), and placing an order online (estimated shipping date of 4/22), I found this thread to be encouraging and helpful.

Thanks again, everyone, and good luck.

A public thanks from me, as well...and a heads up. Target West Hollywood as of 20 minutes ago has stock. I bought a 32gb Wifi Black, only to walk to my car and see that the Best Buy next door had a HUGE shipment. When I got to Best Buy I saw that they had a 64 GB Wifi+3G black, though I had wanted the 64 GB Wifi Black, I decided to snag the ATT 3G version...I might connect it anyway. I want the extra space and who knows, maybe a 64 GB wifi will show up.

I went and returned the 32GB Wifi to Target. This was 20 minutes ago. I realize I might be giving a heads up to scalpers and those wanting one alike...but I'd rather put it out there and hope scalpers don't get a hold. Plus, I think the scalping is going to take a nosedive soon. Best Buy had a ton in stock, Target had at least 12, and I had access to all of them. I think we are going to see bigger stocks coming in on the regular.

Happy hunting. Obviously I had to the chance to buy multiple but the point isn't to scalp them, I could careless about flipping one on ebay...just wanted the one I've been looking for.

It is great to read that the iPad 2 are now easier to get as more & more units of them are coming to Target retail stores! :) Hopefully, Apple is rushing some of the iPad 2 units to TX Target stores so that I can snag one! :)

It seems like Target's supply in the LA area has dried up. I haven't seen any in stock in about a week. Anyone else able to find some in the last few days?

For any Houston, TX area MacRumors user looking for a 16GB White ATT Ipad 2 at Target... there may be one somewhere. :)

PM me and I'll let you know where. Boo to lurkers.

EDIT: Yes, I know you can do your own search but there is a possibility that this Target won't appear in your list.

I am pretty sure it was the galleria one, I couldnt get there myself, but had my mom go by for me. They gave her the run around, and I am pretty sure they have a 32 GB version as well.

One of them rang up for 729.99 but the guy promised her it wasnt an ipad 2, and she couldnt see a camera on the box either....

I am pretty sure i missed out, and this was the exact one I wanted. They convinced her I was wrong, and she didnt buy it.:mad:

Does anyone know if there is a noticeable difference on the box? This one had bubbles as part of the background, which makes me think even more it was an ipad2....ugh

St. Louis must be some sort of wasteland OR they're gone in 5 minutes.

Online searches turn up nothing and visits/calls to stores all claim nothing new since the initial shipment on 3/11.

Actually it's apparently at a different Target... Not the Galleria.

There is a difference of the ipad1 vs ipad2 on the box. The ipad1 is a straight picture of the homescreen with icons. The ipad2 is more of a side shot to show how thin it is now.

Los Angeles? Look at my post from today. Tons of them at Target and Best Buy WeHo on La Brea.

Glaxx....don't listen to 'em

no, but you can't "like" the script on facebook by clicking a button, or easily e-mail it out, etc. a website that does it for you is a lot more shareable than a script that you have to download and run..

All Glaxx has done is simply consolidated the seperate searches that I was using into one search. I wish he'd put up the tool a day earlier. I spent 10 mins every two hours running searches in my area. If I had Glaxx's tool, I could have saved a lot of time. What he's done is really no different that clicking on the links on page 8.

And just because there's a 'like' button, as of 5 mins ago, there were only 8 likes. So, I doubt this has gone viral.

Also, it's just as easy to e-mail the link to this thread as it is to send the link to Glaxx page.

People are just frustrated. It took me a week to get an iPad 2. Thanks to this forum, I got mine. Just keep at it, and with some diligence, persistence and luck, we'll all get our iPad's!

I've been reading these forums for a couple years now, but never felt the need to register and post.

However, I did so today, because I wanted to thank everyone involved in setting up and participating in the thread. It's nice to see people who will never meet helping each other in such a fashion.

Thanks. One off-topic question if I may - Do the iPads ship with 4.0 installed, and can I activate it without upgrading to 4.3 first?
The iPad 2 ships with iOS 4.3.

Well if you missed out on it because it was somewhere in the back stockroom... dang. :-/

good luck trying to find any ipads in palm beach county anytime soon. called just about all of the targets stores in the area, and only one has received ipads since launch. best estimates...at least another month. i may just wait until may at this point.:(

For those of you who are interested, I have created a web-based tracker going off of the PHP code that was suggested earlier in the thread.
I modified it a bit, and it seems to work fine. I uploaded a copy of it to my server for all to use. I'd appreciate comments/concerns/feedback. Also, I'd appreciate it if you limit searches to 2-3 ZIP codes at a time and just overall being not so obsessive when refreshing. It does take a while to load because it is pulling all the data through the Target servers for each model (18 if my math is correct) and each zip code you enter.

@ Glaxx .. You Will Kill The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg
Many of the people have come to this forum so they may have a chance to get their hands on a still Rare ad Hard To Find iPad2.
Many people in this forum have still not been able to locate one in their area.
The Result Of Your Website: Your webpage URL can simply be emailed to every Tom, Dick and Harry. Killing our (the people in this forum) chances of securing an iPad2 of our choice.
The Hordes of people who still stand in line at Apple Stores will now be able to gobble-up all the iPad2's before we have a chance to get one.
I beg of you, please, please, please take down the website. ... Thank You
Before, I stumbled into this forum last week, I had been searching and searching for an Ipad2 with no luck. (None available anywhere, including Target)
Thanks to this forum and the great community herein, many people are successfully finding iPad2's. (I applaud the community)
I own a few websites. Four of my sites are well trafficted. Since finding this site (MacRumors), I have considered sharing the information I gathered here, with the visitors of my websites.
After much consideration, I decided not to share the information with thousands of people outside of this forum because I feel that it would be unfair to the people who take the time (and effort) to come here and learn how to search for the still Rare and Hard To Find iPad2. I know that if I posted the info from this forum on my websites, none of you will be able to get another ipad unless you live or work next door to a Target store.
Reviewing the "availability.txt" file from Tuesday, I see that four (4) Target stores in a heavy populated, upper-middle class, metropolitian area remain available for 3-4 hours. When I called the stores, they indicated that they had received only 4-6 ipads that day.
The only reason those iPad2's remained available for so long is because very few people (among the thousands/millions of people searching for iPad2) know about tools shared in this forum.
This same metropolitian area has 5 Apple Stores with long lines each morning, waiting for an iPad2. (If they knew about the tools herein, they would not wait in line, they would take all of the Target iPad2's ... and you would get none) Hence, The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg, will be dead.
.....
All I am asking is for all of us to keep the information learned in the forun, in this forum. That way, we all may have a chance to get a still Hard To Find iPad2 soon.

PM sent.

The Ipad1 dropped $100 in price since the Ipad2 release so that would be a 64GB ATT 3G model that they scanned, I believe.

Many thanks to all

This is another thank you message to all the kind hearted people who donated their time to this thread and the tools found on it. My story is a bit different from the typical success stories posted.

Like most of you, I've been religiously checking my zip code and those neighboring mine. I decided my strategy would be two pronged. I would either get the one I ordered from J & R on the 17th or I would find one at a Target within 45 minutes of my house. I wasn't going to wait in line or anything like that.

I work downtown in Chicago. Home is in the suburbs. I commute via train back and forth. Yesterday, on a lark, at around 3:00 I decided to enter my work zip code. Lo and behold, there was a target 5 miles from me with black 64GB Verizons in stock. A quick call confirmed there were two or three there.

After consulting Google maps, I quickly realized that the store might as well be in California. There was no way to easily get to the store via public transportation from my office. A cab would have probably cost $20 each way and it would take me too long to get there and back. BAH! If only I had driven to work. So, I had to reluctantly admit that I would have to wait for my iPad.

Last night I finally got the script working properly. I was certain I would have an email waiting for me when I woke up this morning. Nope. There were none of my iPads anywhere in several zip codes in IL and SE WI. Bah!

Just before lunch, I was redundantly checking zip codes on my own on the Target site (yeah, I know that is what the script is doing) when I remembered I hadn't called a Sam's Club that is close to my sister-in-law in Waukesha, WI.

I called. They had 8 in stock. I called SIL and she hit the road. She called me 40 minutes later with it in her hands. Cost was $809. Sam's must be able to discount them by $20. I called my lovely wife and explained that I could drive to my SIL's house over the weekend (it's 1.5 hrs. away). She said she could leave now and get it for me so I would have it in time for my birthday which is tomorrow. Nice gal, that woman. No wonder I married her. :D

More important than my birthday is that I'll have one for next week when my wife might need to be laid up for a bit. Hopefully she won't need to be but if she does, at least she'll have something fun to play with while she recuperates. Fingers crossed that she won't need to do that.

So, the lesson here is twofold. First, don't forget to check the local Sam's Club from time to time. Second, every time someone posts a success story in this forum, it means you are one step closer to getting your iPad 2.

Best of luck to the rest of you in your Ipad 2 hunting. I hope you are all successful very soon.
