Just returned @ 9:00am a brand new black 32GB WIFI only to the Bristol Target in Santa Ana / Costa Mesa, California. May still be at the customer service counter. :) Good luck.

thank you for the Target link!

This forum is awesome! Thanks for the Target link.....I had resigned myself to waiting for a long time, but when I used the link last Friday I found that a store in my area had 2-black 64gb 3g verizon in stock. I called, they had them..so off I went. Very happy...I was going to get either the att or verizon...whatever I could find. Haven't activated the 3g yet, but no problems with the wifi so far. Now I have a lot to learn :) glad I found this forum!

Did work for me

Can't edit the title apparently, but I meant DIDN'T work for me.

The ipad2locator app told me there were 16 and 32GB iPad 2's available at a Target in San Jose on Silver Creek Rd, but no dice once I got there. Both were listed as "Available" (and still show as available now) in the app, but the clerk told me there were none. There were only iPad 1's in the case, and I punched the DCI #'s in the red aisle machines and the Stockroom status said "No" for the 16 and 32GB's that were listed as available in the app.

Sounds like it works for most people - just disappointed it didn't for me. Not a huge deal - 25mi round trip, but

I understand your disappointment. They key seems to be to catch it when stuff shows up as available, often around 11am in the morning after Fedex delivers and new stock.

I know that Target's online inventory, which is what this draws from, can lag an hour or so behind sometimes.

Great site!!

Sent many people in front of the apple store this AM to target since it opened a hour earlier and was able to move up 4 spaces and purchase my iPad 2!!!

I got tired of resubmitting forms on a bunch of different tabs for different products, so I threw together an app that searches all stores within a few hundred miles of my location, for whatever models I selected.

You guys will probably find it pretty useful. Let me know if you end up snagging one. I found a 32GB white WiFi in Cupertino thanks to this. Wanted 16GB, but I'm sure I won't mind the extra space.

Good luck in the search...
Maclor, your site is awesome! Thanks to you, I was able to get my hands on a 16GB Black WiFi. I wanted a white one, and still have that on order from Apple. But this is an anniversary gift for my wife and we leave on a trip on 4/22 while the White one isn't scheduled to arrive until 4/26. It might get moved up, but just in case, I got this one as a backup.

Seriously PHX-area Targets aren't getting any love and no Arizona Radio Shacks are among the 500. So, when I saw that a Gilbert Target got a few in because of your site, I rushed there during lunch to get one. They only rec'd Black 16 and 32 WiFis and White 32 WiFis. So, I took the Black 16. And they only had one left when I bought this one. (There are 3 stores showing "false positives, at least according to their sales people for the last week, so when a new store showed Available, I took the chance it was real. And it was!!!

Plus, since I used my RED card to buy it, I got it for $25 less!

Thanks again!

Not sure if all Targets follow the same procedure, but I hope it helps.
I successfully landed an iPad 2 today. :)
As soon as I saw the online inventory indicated that my local Target had some available, I immediately called the Electronics department to confirm.
The very nice woman who answered confirmed and further informed me they would go on sale at 11:45am.
This was they key bit of information I was missing on my previous 2 attempts, I would always arrive after they were sold out.
This time I arrived at 11:30, there were already 7 folks ahead of me lined up. Fortunately the had plenty of stock to fulfill our preferences. There were a few more folks still in line as I left with iPad in hand.

Definitely call ahead of time!

Good Luck...

WOW! I am sure glad I checked on this thread. I went to the ipadlocater link and a Target near me showed that it had a black 32 wifi only. Just what I have on order. Drove there right away and got the only one they had. Thank you macrumors forum.

Thanks for the heads up! There's 3 in the area that were showing up as having it but when I called 1 they didn't have any, so those must be the false positives you're referring to.

I saw the Gilbert one had them but sadly wasn't able to head that way (I'm in Glendale), but nice to know that the other stores than the 3 should be a good indicator. Crossing my fingers that some turn available today!

It was in Deerfield. I work in Boca. But it was the last one.

looks like someone already picked up the 32 GB wifi supplies at the royal palm and se boynton stores, because they are now out of stock. i actually debated getting it for a good half hour, but decided against it. i'm going to try again for the 32 GB ATT model.

I went to two Target stores this morning. One did not have any of the 32GB Wifi Black. I was so excited I didn't pay attention to the models the store had in stock, and I did not deselect the ones I didn't want in the tracker. So it was accurate and the problem was an operator one. The other store had the white one which matched the info on the tracker. Didn't want white, but I bought it to give to my wife and I will take her Gen 1 until I get a black one later.
So it pays to call, but unless you run over to the store ASAP, you may be out of luck.

Just a heads up by the way for anyone looking for an iPad 2 at a Target, I know it's been said a few times in here, but with so many pages, it can easily get lost.

It almost seems like the people that work in Electronics at Target are trained to say they are out immediately and with no hesitation. They are to not look in the back, case, computer, nor scanner, they are to just assume they do not have any and your job is to prove them wrong.

If you see that the inventory tracker on the site offered in this thread is showing iPad 2 as available, they most likely DO have them and the employee does not know this.

Insist they check the scan gun to verify they do not have them, reading through many messages here the person working there gets surprised when they see them in the system.

Look in the case, the other day I saw one in the case, asked if I could buy it, the worker insisted it wasnt the ipad 2 until he scanned it.

If the inventory tracker shows available and the scan gun shows it too, unless there is an error which there was one at my local store, they absolutely do have them.

Good luck, 4:30pm seems to be the time to check it :D

+1. I was checking the tracker and it all of a sudden said "Available" at the store near me, on the way there I called just in case and was immediately told there wasn't any, so I said uh no can you check with your receiving department as it's showing available on the website, 5 mins later he came back and said yeah they just come in. So never take no for an answer!

The 2 targets around me are not on the locator so I'm just posting updates here...

San Ramon, CA has 3 Verizon ones, the one on top was 32GB white.
Dublin, CA has only AT&T 64GB in black.

and if you're searching this area, i stopped by the local best buy today and they had quite a few 64GB AT&T in black, and a few Verizon ones, with 1 or 2 16GB wifi models left. Those were in excess to the pre-orders.

There appears to be a few choices available in NJ I am seeing some Verizon models in Menlo Park, Clark, and Staten Island, that was just through a quick random check on Black Verizon 3G's.

Good Luck :D

I've noticed over the past couple of days iPad 2's are getting a little bit easier to locate. I was driving back from the high desert to Los Angeles looking for a white 32 or 64GB 3G model and found the following:

WalMart in Lancaster had 2 64GB Blk AT&T models. A shame, wife wants a white one. Left 'em. The clerk called the neighboring stores, one had a white 16GB WiFi. Not right model either.

Today at Target (The infamous one in Granada Hills/Northridge with all the false positives) had 4x iPad 2's discreetly tucked in the showcase. I wasked what they were: "64GB Verizon 3G models" the clerk replied. Me: "Verizon or AT&T?" Clerk: "Verizon" Me: "Yeccch!"

Left those too.

That's more iPad 2's than I have seen since launch in a mere two days.

The bad news for me is she's leaving for Japan in 24 hours and my 64GB Black AT&T model is now wiped and sporting the pink smart cover. She needs it pretty much to keep touch with the kid with facetime. :( Still 4 weeks to go until her order gets shipped according to Apple.

I agree that they are becoming more common to see in stores but the demand is still ridiculously high in my area

Though BestBuys and Walmarts and others are getting more stock hence seeing more availability online...but I still go to the stores and get nothing.

Well there is the issue of preorders and BestBuy and Fry's created sizeable preorder lists. My local Fry's had 30+ iPad 2's visible in their cage, all were spoken for.

The ones I spotted were in the afternoon, not first thing in the morning. Which means that people are not as rabid to be there when they hit the floor. This probably has something to do with the bottom falling out of the resale market or the international launch, who knows?
