Yay!

Thanks to the iPad 2 locator I picked up a 32 gb iPad 2 at target yesterday! I live right next to an apple store and there are lines every morning so the chances of getting one are tough unless you want to skip work everyday. But there is a target right next to my work and during lunch I decided to check the iPad2 locator and saw that they had 1 32gb available and drove over and bought it with no lines! Thanks for the help whoever setup that site.

The iPad 2 is awesome, I don't believe how fast it is and how much I'm using it in place of my MacBook. I wish I had gotten the original last year! :)

Well there is the issue of preorders and BestBuy and Fry's created sizeable preorder lists. My local Fry's had 30+ iPad 2's visible in their cage, all were spoken for.

The ones I spotted were in the afternoon, not first thing in the morning. Which means that people are not as rabid to be there when they hit the floor. This probably has something to do with the bottom falling out of the resale market or the international launch, who knows?

I was at Fry's yesterday and I asked if they had any iPad 2's.

They said, "Well, we might. I'll have to check on that. Why don't you check out these great cases?" The guy led me over to the accessories line and was pushing the cases.

After looking at their overpriced cases, I asked, "So do you have any iPad 2's?".

He said, "Well, I'll have to check on the manager about that." and left. Came back. "What's your favorite color - these brown leather ones are great."

I played along and looked a bit more. "So do you have those iPad 2's or not?"

"Yes, but you have to buy one of these accessories to get one."

Anyway, after more back and forth and general shiftiness, they just had a 32GB white wifi and 64GB white wifi, so I didn't bite because I really wanted a 16GB or 32GB black ATT.

If it's not an advertised bundle, I'm not even sure what they did was legal. The guy seemed really shifty and nervous about it. They must get big commissions on the accessories. Everyone wants to make a buck on the scarcity of these things.

Also, if it wasn't an advertised bundle, I could have just bought both, and returned the case right away unopened and kept the iPad 2. So whatever benefit the guy got from forcing me to buy the case would be reversed. But I guess they don't think that far ahead.

Anyway, weird, but the 16GB black wifi I ordered on 3/13 will be here this week, so the ground search is effectively ending unless I can track down an ATT model locally.

The best thing to do with situations like that (and the related issue of things becoming "out of stock" the moment you mention you do not want to purchase an extended warranty or upsell) is to go ahead with the suggestion, let him print out the quote. After he hands it to you, look at it and see if it says "bundle" or if he just rang up the two items separately. I'd bet it is the latter one. Now take it to the register and ask to see the item before they process the sale to "make sure you get the right model". Once they present it from the cage, tell them you changed your mind about the case and you just want the iPad. Then they will ring it up individually at the register.

The key point is to physically see the item so they cannot suddenly claim it is out of stock.

Best Buy and Staples used to do this crap when they were heavily pushing their salespeople to sell extended warranties. It go so bad they would gladly pass up a sale to not hurt their percentages.

Philly Area

Just got a 16g Wifi from Target in NE Philly by using the IPad locator...it worked great!....was refreshing this morning while at work and it showed they had some....refreshed again before I left and still showed them...got there they had a black 16g and a white 16g.....bought the black which is what I was looking for....thanks guys for the locator!!!

Bay Area stores seem to be getting some shipments of the Black 64GB Wifi, which I've rarely seen in stock anywhere since I started using the locator. I missed one by minutes at the Westgate Mall location, but I've seen it at some other locations further away. Tanforan had some earlier and Pleasant Hill has em now.

Or you could just buy both items and return the case.

16GB Wifi Black in the Bay Area

Hi

I had ordered a 16GB Wifi Black from the Apple Store, but changed my mind and bought a 32GB Wifi white from frys today. My Apple order comes in on Thursday 4/7. I'd like to sell it at cost-- you don't pay a penny more than if you bought it at the store or online. I'm in the Bay Area (Santa Clara) and will only sell locally and for cash. You can get my original Apple receipt too if you like

Search is over, 9:17am on Saturday received an email a NJ target about 30 minutes away had 64 gig black Ipad 2s in stock, the one I wanted. Drove over and was the first one there. Nobody from the apple store across the street even came over when i was there at 9:45am.

Thank you for the script!!! I cancelled my apple order that was suppose to be here April 26th. Haven't used my macbook for 3 days now.

why can't palm beach get the cool ipads? i found the model i want, both are over an hour away though. no answering on the phone, so i'm not going. i would rather bite on an ipad closer to me though.

If you're in the Bay area peninsula, it seems they are becoming more available. I went to Target in Redwood City to get printer paper, and they had a couple in stock this morning. Me and someone else got the last two. The ipad locator says Tanforam has some in stock right now.

wow you guys are good i can nab one for the likes of me, what am i doing wrong help please i can't seem to get this target locater right, :( my zip is 92114 .. if anyone feels sorry for me lol

same thing here in south florida. they had a 32 GB ATT at a couple stores, but they were all over an hour away, so i didn't bother. but my local super target has 32 GB wifi models. i think the super targets tend to get ipads more than the regular targets.

I'm seeing this also. Very few have made it in to the PHX area Targets the last 2 weeks. And the only places I've seen on the tracker get any were both SuperTargets.

I got my 64GB wifi from the Kissimmee SuperTarget on 25th March so I think you might be right. They had 4 in stock when I bought mine. When I left Florida on Saturday, the local SuperTarget had 2 16GB wifis in stock.

The iPad 2 Shortage in the Bay area seems to be pretty much over for some models. No one is picking up 16 GB white/black and 32 white models at crazy pace anymore.

there are a bunch of 64 GB ATT models at targets in palm beach county. too bad they aren't 32 GB, otherwise i would have been gone. maybe tomorrow...but i notice that shipments are coming in all day (although most of those seem to be around noon time).

Seriously? WOW! That is f____ up! DANG that is some bad business practice! I know they make money on extended warranties but to do it this way is just not good...

Grabbed a white 32GB AT&T iPad at my local target 30 minutes after it showed up in the inventory. Thanks so much for this thread!

Looks like the Bay Area got a huge shipment of AT&t 64B Black today!

I am in west palm, which target had them? Also do they have any white 3G?
Thx

actually, stock is about out in palm beach county, the se boynton store has 1 or 2 3G left (64 GB). i would check in another hour or so, since alot of stores are getting stock around noon lately.

i would also say this is an indication that the initial buzz is dying down a bit, as stores are actually having them in stock and stay that way for several hours (in fact one store has been having ipads in stock for over a day now).
