That's what Apple wants you to think.

It's typical Apple story telling to make them look warm and fuzzy.

It's working too, because Apple has unlimited marketing resources to bombard us with.
It's true. The merchants want to track people and they hate Apple Pay because it is anonymous

Everyone in my house uses Amazon Prime, so I get the convenience aspect.

Still feels a little irresponsible to me to have basic things like toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, etc shipped to my house, so I buy those at a place like Target (because they're a lot less expensive there than the grocery stores in my area).

Do you live in a state that truly doesn't tax online purchases, or do you inaccurately report your online purchases in order to not have to pay the sales tax that you owe for them?
When I buy through Amazon, a majority of item do not charge tax, I have no idea how that works. I think it has something to do that Amazon is shipping from a different state so they don't charge tax. The stuff I buy is usually unique (gluten free, vegan, organic, non-gmo, etc) so there is rarely a difference in price if it can even be found in a brick and mortar store. When I go out and buy stuff its usually at the local farmers market.

Places I shop at:
Places that accept Apple Pay.

All that's left is for a place to decide if they want me as a customer.
No, ANOTHER damn pay system won't cut it. Apple Pay works. Use it, get my patronage, don't... and don't

It's more secure because it protects every card used to pay in their stores, whether the card is swiped, inserted, or shot over via NFC (one day).

Apple Pay only protects cards enrolled in Apple Pay. So assuming that every one of their customers has a smartphone (which they don't), and Apple only has 50% of that market, and it's the only the latest iPhones that support Apple Pay, ... Apple Pay only covers a small percentage of their customers that pay with cards.

So IMO a solution that covers 100% of their customers that pay with cards > a solution that only covers a small percentage of their customers that pay with cards.

I don't think anyone on here has suggested that stores take ApplePay instead of otherwise properly encrypting all of their transactions for security. Introducing these silly QR Code based payment apps instead of ApplePay is what has people upset. I think most here would even be content if they introduced their silly systems along side of ApplePay; at least we could choose how to pay.

Target is in early stages of developing its own mobile wallet solution that could launch as early as next year, according to Reuters. The fourth-largest U.S. retailer is leaning towards using QR code technology for the payments app, rather than NFC, enabling customers to purchase goods by scanning a code at checkout akin to Walmart Pay announced last week.

The retailer reportedly plans to integrate the mobile wallet into its existing app available on iOS and Android, and will directly link customers' credit cards for payments. The wallet will likely support both Target's Red store credit and debit cards and ones from other issuers. Target does not currently accept any mobile wallets in it stores, but does support Apple Pay in its iPhone and iPad app.

Target's plans to launch its own mobile wallet raise questions about its commitment to rival payment platforms. A company spokesperson confirmed that Target remains an active member of the Merchant Customer Exchange, a consortium of retailers developing the payments system CurrentC, and the retailer is also exploring additional mobile wallet solutions, according to the report.

Target CEO Brian Cornell said in May that the retailer is "open-minded" about supporting Apple Pay or other payment services after upgrading its point-of-sale systems with chip-and-PIN card support, but the company has not announced any specific plans since. A few other MCX retailers including Best Buy and Rite Aid have already reversed course and started accepting Apple Pay this year.

I love going to trader joes with their Apple Pay support.

Why use that system when it sounds totally convoluted? Why not use your credit card then? Seems so much easier.

I used to go to Target pretty regularly, but the last time I shopped there (for an iPad, in fact), my reward was a good price on an iPad and somebody stealing my credit card. Card replacement, reconfiguring all the auto-pays I had set up, and credit report monitoring ensued. Haven't spent a penny there since.

Something that would have been a non-issue as an ApplePay transaction, even if their lax POS security got them hacked again.

Yeah, sorry, Target, you can stick your QR code where the sun don't shine. If--and that's a big if--I ever deign to shop there again, the only way it's going to happen is if I use ApplePay to pay.

If it works like the Starbucks app that'd be OK. I'd prefer Apple Pay, but I suspect targeted customer data is part of their thing, and Apple Pay won't give that to them.

Even at the Apple store they have to enter my email address for my receipt, because there's no link between Apple Pay and my account there. When I pay with a normal CC the email is automatic.

Do you use a chipped card where you have to insert it into the machine?

My understanding with those was that they create a unique code that only works for that one transaction. ApplePay uses something similar. The idea is to make it so that even if you did have that piece of information the amount of damage you could do would be minimal.

That's a limitation of the newer security standards in credit cards, I think, and not something Apple has much control over.

Yeah, that's what's so utterly stupid about this, CurrentC and similar schemes to use some convoluted QR code scheme to pay for things.

Let's forget entirely the privacy implications, and also ignore that it means Target has to keep my credit card on file, despite their having already proven they can't even secure point-of-sale transactions for millions of people.

From a pure consumer standpoint, you're giving me two options: I can take a credit card out, swipe it, tap "credit", tap "yes", and sign the screen. Or I can take out my phone, unlock it, open their app (does it require a network connection?), generate a QR code of some kind, hope that the scanner the checker has can read it, and probably then tap a couple of "accept" buttons.

Pretty sure I know which of those two options I'm going to pick unless you give me a pretty substantial incentive.

Or, of course, with ApplePay, I can put my thumb on the button of the phone, hold it next to the reader, and wait a second or two for it to beep. Maybe then tap "Yes" once on the screen. And then not worry that their POS terminal has been hacked.

So
ApplePay
ChasePay
SamsungPay
LGPay
WalmartPay
TargetPay
ChasePay

We really need Apple and Google to take off and kill these little "me-too's" running around. I'm fine with them, but not like in the case of Target and Walmart blocking the others to promote theirs.

Add in Visa and I think Capital One has one as well.

I'm thinking this kludge is the same as Walmart Pay and is just CurrentC with a private label masque in too making it look like a Walmart or Target innovation.

In other words crypto ninja CurrentC.

As I said before, the whole mobile payment is mess. You get Apple Pay which only works with iPhone, you get Samsung Pay which only works with Samsung phones, you get Android pay which works with NFC enabled Android phones, you get current C, Surtap in Canada.

There are too much limitation and so many craps. None of them including Apple Pay will take off. All those mobile payment crap do not make wallet irreverent and just to much of chaos.

I still believe industry need come together to develop a unified solution for mobile payment that works with all NFC enabled phone regardless iPhone, Android, WP or BlackBerry. Otherwise, I do not see how mobile Payment can take off anytime.

Samsung Pay=NFC
Android Pay=NFC
Apple Pay=NFC
Current C=Not NFC

Stores need to support NFC, not this QR code crap.

I wonder if there is an anti competitive government suit in this. It is clear they want to block competitors in order to give their systems to grow, so they dangle the future carrot to keep customers hoping and regulators at bay.

In the meantime, I hope folks will shun retailers who are playing this game.
