The Godfather? Actually no, but thanks for reminding me of that.

How did I lose? This isn't a battle, unlike you make it out to be. I'm literally laughing at you thinking it is.

Apple aren't going to change their policies. If you think they will you have a long time to wait. It's as simple as that.

Is it wrong? Perhaps, but pirating music is worse anyway.

Laughing again? You are so easily amused...

It is wrong. That's the point!

Thanks.

Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.

She's pretty assuming that Apple should pay for the servers because its Apple music service...mmmm

I'm not sure anymore about who should be supported here... Apple is putting the technology and the artist their music (at least for those 3 months), is that unfair?

*moot

Apple are trying to get a cut of a growing industry. They want the money, that's all.

Correct - they are doing what they think will maximise revenue in the long term.

Which, by happy coincidence, it what will be of greatest benefit to everyone, including the artists.

Kudos to Swift for standing up for artists. Most artists not on the tier 1 "superstar" level in music you'd be surprised struggle to make a living. An artist can have a number one record, tour the world, play Letterman, and still have to supplement their income with a fast food job when not touring. And yes, teacher's have a steadier higher average salary than the working musician.

I wonder if the solution to the issue would be to window new album releases during the trial period. Record sales occur mainly in the first few months, so if new releases were exempt from the trial perhaps there wouldn't be as much of an issue?

Good for Taylor! Apple has walked into a buzz saw by taking on such an intelligent and articulate young lady. One of Apple's big p. r. mistakes.

But apple is putting the technology (servers, badnwidth, coding), those aren't free...

I bet Apple will be humored and Tim Cook will have a good laugh out of this and issue a letter to Swift saying

"Dear Ms. Swift,

We agree to pay all royalties if artists pay for our hosting and streaming costs.

Sincerely,

Tim Cook"

I'm encouraged to watch some in this younger generation taking a stand against the nonsense of corporate types. I could see the bigwigs at Apple laughing behind closed doors after they came to decide to screw the artists over their streaming music promotion scheme. How about when they decided, behind closed doors to charge hundreds and thousands of dollars more for each Apple Watch, they smirking while knowing the only difference between the highest and lowest cost model IS THE FREAKING WATCH BAND!

Miley Cyrus chickened out not writing an open letter to Tim Cook asking him to explain how does he reconcile setting up Apple Stores and selling computers in Islamist nations with legal systems that punish homosexuality with imprisonment, stoning, and death. No, she doesn't want to take Tim to the shed for that, but safely leading from behind and rallying her fans to bully Christians, Chic Fillet (sic) and cake bakers is hunky-dory and fun.

I digress. Miley is still just a kid.

My compliments to Taylor Swift. I'm impressed.

I lost you after 'scheme.'
You just went on to rant about Apple in general with news that I never even heard of.
I also assume that you were insulting my generation.
Why are you in this thread? Please explain in better paragraphs that separate these thoughts.

Why would content providers (artists) pay for Apple’s own service?

But isn't it that Taylor Swift is same as Apple? She also have same policy with the photographers. She uses their works in perpetuity not paying them everytime she uses those photographer's artwork. I know I just read a photographer's open letter in response to Taylor's.

Dear Taylor Swift,

There are plenty of other artists for me to listen to. It doesn't hurt my feelings if you don't want to be a part of Apple Music, and we all hope it is a gigantic success. Kindly remove yourself from iTunes, and I will go about my day as if nothing happened, listening to other artists who want to be innovative and on the bleeding edge of technology.

So you’re saying you’re willing to work free for 3 months to promote my new service, even though you might not be able to pay your bills? You are my hero, then.

I guess it’s no biggie if you die when you’re getting paid eventually.
Yes, and that's what I do for a living right now and it has greatly been successful for me. My business is successful because I don't have an entitlement attitude.

You trust me, then? Show me where your spaceship crashed. I know some people who may be able to help you fix it.

Oh, so the majority wan´t to pay premium for all of their music they stream then, whether they like it or not?

My spaceship is at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20500, USA

So if Apple aren't doing it for the money, why are they launching Apple Music?

Because Apple is creating a much bigger package than just streaming.

Why don't you answer your own question.

Is Apple really in it for the money? They stand to make a windfall on streaming? Really?

Where's the profits at Spotify ?

I hear CRICKETTS. Because Spotify is losing money -- thank you. So now answer your own question - is Apple in it for the money?

Do you -- I mean you know these FACTS? Out of the .99 cents a song that sold thru iTunes - the cut that goes to the label and or the artist is .69...

I'm a Apple stockholder so trust me when I tell you that Apples services businesses like iTunes sales are a TINY FRACTION of their overall income. Just so your clear Apple is NOT in the content selling business because it dreams of a monopoly on it. Get your facts together. They are launching a streaming service to augment their HARDWARE. Period

Good for Taylor Swift. Apple is acting like a bully. This is Apple's service, so Apple needs to take the hit in offering free music for the first three months, not the artists and writers. I hope this gets a ton of PR and Apple backs down.

Maybe not, but that was in reply to a post which implied that the fact that she did not write her own songs was evidence that she was not talented.

But as it happens, a lot of the songs she rights are good, so I think its fair to describe her as talented.
A lot of her songs being good is subjective because I disagree. I've heard quite a few of her songs and they just weren't appealing to me. It's enough she has a terrible voice.

Funny how Apple was applauded last week here for raising the commission payout for the artists after the trial period and now today they are a bully because of Taylor Swift's little silly letter. Hmmm.

Why should Apple pay artists during a free trial? It's the same principle. Apple are not a charity, they redacted very long agreement and presented it to artists. If artists get pissed and don't want to be on the service, that's their choice.

Many have accepted the agreement, so not everyone is furious like Ms Swift.

I did and that still doesn't address my question, but that's okay. I don't need a question answered with another question.

Sorry for being so sarcastic. What I mean is I do care and the second paragraph should state why. I like Taylor (her older stuff) but that doesn’t mean I’m blindly defending her. I’m defending her opinion which I believe is right. And even if she’s doing it for attention, she is right. There are people who, again, have music as their day-to-day job and they need to cover their costs of living from music revenue. And they absolutely can expect a drop. How drastic? We’ll see, but I doubt it will be insignificant. And because I also like smaller indie artist, I don’t want them to stop making music I love. Those small artists have weak voice in negotiations with Apple. So they need people like Tay to stand behind them and tell Apple that it isn’t right.

Hope that answers your question better.
