Incorrect. A simple Google could give you this answer. Jesus, people.

no, I think you are incorrect. A simple Google search refers to Neilsons Music research (that's where Forbes, Billboard, Yahoo etc republishes it's data) cites only US sales...obviously, US sales do not represent worldwide sales. When US media makes statements they often think US = World.

Make sure when you do a 'simple Google' search you follow up on where information is coming from! (Download the PDF's and read the data).

2014 Nielson U.S. Music (US sales):
1989 3.66 million
Frozen 3.53 million.

The IFPI the org which represents the global music industry reports:
Global sales (million):
1 Frozen Various Artists 10.0
2 1989 Taylor Swift 6.0

it's not even close.

Yeah poor Spotify and their FREE tier. LOL. Apple doesn't have the better anything. Even their PR team flubbed this obvious charade.

They have a wider selection of music and arguably more talent for curated playlists.

Or did you decide to ignore my comment and act like a 12 year old deliberately?

This is huge!!! Nobody else has this album on their streaming service.
'

You got that right, and not many other albums either... Hopefully more will follow.

When Taylor Swift is in town, everyone else may as well pack up ya jammies and go to bed.

Apple sells at a premium to customers, so i'm going by my gut and say "You've found a new home."

so.... whoopty doo

Personally I don't care about Taylor Swifts music - or any other mega-rich over-paid pop star music being or not on any streaming service, for that matter.

The interesting part of this whole story was Apple being forced to rightfully pay artists - specially indie musicians - for the streams of their music during the trail period.

As for the Taylor Swift / Apple angle of the story, I can see how some think of this whole episode as a well played publicity stunt...

I hope the sarcasm is strong in most of you...or else MR may have changed to teenage girls music forum without me noticing...on the other hand, maybe I am the only one who switches station as soon as anything like taylor swift is torturing my eardrums...

Hey, why the hate? Everybody got its own taste. The fact is that Taylor Swift's album is the most selling album so it obviously matters.

Uh, check your facts there. 1989 was released October 2014. Hardly best selling album of the last 2 years. Or did you mean, "1989 is the most successful-selling album within the past 2 years"? ;)

It's the best selling album of 2014, and the best selling album of 2015 so far.

Is it just me or is there anybody else who thinks that 10$ per month (that will be easily 10€ here in Europe) is a lot of money to listen radio? There is still FM radio and is not single-brand driven as Apple music.

Plus, you pay 10€ per month to help a company to discover which product should make it gain even more money, not the converse. I'm a loyal Apple fan, but this is too much.

Of course it's a lot

Yes but it's still a product in and of itself rather than part of iOS like FaceTime. Which is what the original comment was implying.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't see Apple Music as a stand-alone product - even if it's not exclusive to iOS, and I think that is a good thing. Remember, FaceTime was also originally announced as a cross-platform feature until ultimately it wasn't financially feasible for IP reasons.

Would you say iCloud Bookmark syncing is also a product in and of itself rather than merely a cool feature, just because it's not exclusive to iOS and Apple offers a Chrome extension and a Windows helper app?

No, but for different reasons. I would feel that Chrome from Google is a product in and of itself - separate from Android, even though it is also a part of Android running on most phones.

I agree that Apple Music will bring people into the Apple ecosystem, and encourage them to buy an iPhone. The notes app, iLife, iWork, Photos, iCloud, etc are all features which are a part of Apple's world. They exist to make those products better. They are part of those products. It wouldn't make sense for FaceTime to launch on Android, because right now it's a feature used to sell iOS and OS X devices. Apple Music is clearly not that. Apple wants people to subscribe to Apple Music, regardless of whether they bought an iPhone or a competitor's phone. Whether they bought a Mac or a Windows PC.

If you don't get what I'm saying from this, I can't help you.

For those who don't know who Taylor Swift is or why she's so popular, are you trolling or do you seriously not know? I'm going to assume you're trolling. She's probably the biggest name in the world right now. Do you know Beyonce? She's basically a white version of Beyonce but with greater appeal.

If she does this and it gets a bunch of exclusives and/or streams of other artists and albums that aren't usually on board with streaming, it'll be huge for Apple. It'll either be the end for Spotify or Spotify will be forced to get rid of their free tier.

"First time it felt right?" Meaning, the money was good...what a hero, holding out for the most money and acting like a f*****g saint of all indie artists.

Who is Beyonce?

I'm actually going to check out the songs on 1989. Never been a fan as such, but hey worth a listen.

I wish people would think like this about every note of music out there. I don't see why not. If they did more, we might have less articles about the exact same musicians over and over and over and over again ad nauseum. ClearChannel no longer controls everybody, there's no reason at all every single person with Internet access can't explore the wild world of music.

Apple Music with Taylor Swift on their side will definitely take down Spotify. RIP.

Well, don't forget the vast majority of spotify listeners aren't willing to pay anything. Why would they now?

Spotify premium and though the whole of spotify will suffer of course.
