I think the gluing of the battery in modern devices is a safety thing, Apple isnt the only one that does it in devices that dont have a typical user replaceable battery. There is always gonna be a slight bit of tolerance in where the battery sits, along with the ribbon cable usually associated with it, you want little stress on it all.
Wouldn't you just need a clip or screw? It suck that you can no longer replace batteries in your Apple MacBooks, especially since Apple tried to quote me $600+ to replace mine last week.

Holding my breath to see the repairability score by ifixit. Just 1/10 or will it make it to score 2/10 thanks the user replaceable SSD.

Well, what do I do now. My 2012 Macbook air is my main computer. Just can not justify the new pricing. Getting a refurb is one possibility, extending my use of Mac's for a few more years. But the in your face greed of the new pricing is just not acceptable.

I also need a new phone, but if I can't stay in the Apple system an iPhone is out of the question.

That's the question thousands of people are asking today. Apple left a huge vacuum here, I hope something/somebody comes to fill it.

I took apart my 2013 15" rMBP yesterday, cleaned the fans, replaced the thermal compound, removed, cleaned and replaced all keyboard hinges and may order a new display soon.
Ran geekbench on it and it's still 30-120% (single/multicore) ahead of the depicted non-touchbar 13" 2.0Ghz.

Interesting. Looks like 13" entry is significantly different from the one with touchbar... According to Apple website, that one has two fans...

That's becuase it generates twice the heat. The low end 13" is 15W TDP and the high end is 28W TDP.

Same here. I thought about it for some time now. I bit the bullet today. Sold my 2013 MBA and purchased a Razer Blade Stealth (late 2016) with the Razer Core. Nice deal since Razer throws in a Kabuto and a Orochi Mouse for free right now.

Apple pricing is simply not affordable for me anymore. For some GPU power you need to shell out at least 2.5k€ here :(

On the phone side I will stick with my iP6 till next year. Then see what Google's second gen phone will look like.

There is no logical reason to solder memory on board besides $$$. If the logicboard fails, your data is gone. If the memory fails, your board is gone. 1.5 TB extra for 1.500 € is just insane.

Umm, the SSD has always replaceable, it is on my Mid 2015 too, I wouldn't want to though its already faster than any replacement option.

Apple started soldering it with the 12" Macbook. The Macbook Pro retinas had the removable SSD and it wasn't clear if they would go to the soldering station with this one too - to mimic the 12" Macbook.

The Apple price INCREASES are more than the total purchase price of a Chromebook.

You have to purchase the product that works best for you. If that is a PC or a Chromebook, then do what you have to do.

If Apple doesn't sell these MacBooks, they will either pivot in strategy or stop making them. The market will decide.

After reading lots of these comments since that lame keynote: guys, make me CEO of Apple and I promise, within 1 year, everyone will be happy! :p

We will all have thicker (yes, you read that right) MacBooks with useful ports, magsafe and sd-card slots. They'll have powerful gpus and 64gb ram for those who need it. And hey, we'll throw in a extension cable and make the Apple logo glow again.

We'll make a new Thunderbolt display and new Mac Pros and iMacs for you to connect them with. iPhones will lose the lightning port, because who needs that when there's usb-c and we'll include 2 of those on every Mac, just in case if you ever need one next to usb-a. Most importantly, we'll keep the prices lower so people can actually buy them. Less money but more volume is I believe better than less volume with more money.

But seriously, how freaking hard can it be to just give your customers what they'll actually want. Just for once don't be so extremely cheap. It's not like you're close to bankruptcy.
So you would basically be the anti-Tim Cook

What is the make and model of SSD inside? Samsung M.2 PCIe Gen3 SSD SM961 & PM961 – 6’5 W (3,200-3000 MB/sec Read & 1,800-1150 MB/sec Write)?

I'm confused. If you go to the Apple store and click on ''How much storage is right for you?'', which is right under capacity section, it says the following:

Please note that the storage is built into the computer, so if you think you’ll need additional storage capacity in the future, it’s important to upgrade at the time of purchase.

So is it or is it not removable?

"Laptop automatically turns on when you open it regardless of pressing power button". That's actually pretty cool. That type of stuff is what Apple was good at back in the

I am not wild about that idea. I closed the lid on my MacBook Pro the other day and assumed it went to sleep like it does every other time. It stayed awake and got REALLY hot inside its bag.

Now when I want to make sure it's off and stays off I shut it down.

- It is removable as proved by these pictures. That statement from Apple was also present with previous models, which also had removable PCIe SSDs.

It's built-in in the sense that you aren't supposed to take it out.

We're talking about the MacBook Pro. You have an Air right now. If you want to move up, then of course it's more expensive -- or am I overlooking something?

Edit: OK I get it, you're saying that there isn't a good upgrade path for anyone owning a Macbook Air? Yes, I have to agree with that. You could get the current Air, though. It's two CPU generations ahead of your current machine and the battery life will be fantastic compared to your Air.
