Over here
Looks nice, could I afford one? Yes. Will I buy one? Nope. It just looks so expensive to repair and only possible by Apple that I could not face it when it goes wrong, I think it would given my experience of Apple products in the last couple of years.

Wow she surely put that Mac Pro to good use! Can there even BE more useless Apple youtuber?

Useless is subjective, she's hot, and gets millions and millions of subscribers and views.

Let me introduce to you the countless make up youtubers who do nothing but gossip on the next big makeup release.

So how long until we get LTT's AMD build that crushes the Mac Pro for a third of the cost?

Wow, do they get to keep them?

In the other thread some people told me these are review units that they do not keep, however I don't think that's the case. Anyway, I think this device in particular should be reviewed by actual pros, people who work in the film, music industries, etc.

Sure, an Alienware Threadripper would be faster. I don't care. I'm not speed limited.

The machine spends most of its time waiting for me.

Philosophically speaking, Macs have been an attempt to shorten the feedback loop between thoughts and results. As a software person having that develop/test cycle bet as short as possible is important, but the returns from this box aren't worth it. That doesn't mean I don't want one, but on a pure cost basis it's just too much. A Mini i5 is a much better value.

That said, if I ever got a contract where I could blow $15k on a box I'd jump on it immediately.

This is how Apple's targeting the influencers - by making them want the equipment that other influencers are using.

Just like you can't be a social media person without a Mac (it's true, basically), you won't be able to be a next-gen video influencer without a Mac Pro.

I'm really sad my Apple Tower dreams got shot in the head when they announced the pricing on this thing.

I did my waiting...12 years of it...in Azkaban...for nothing.

What an amazing machine this is, in both a positive and a negative way.

I guess I better force myself to love iOS... and shrivel up in my Mac Pro envy. :(
This comment deserves more respect, if only for that reference.

Yes it's fast... as we all know.

No, you cannot afford it... as we all know.

Rinse and repeat reviews.

I haven't watched iJustine's video yet, but let me guess what she says:

OMG IT"S, LIKE, SOOO COOOL. WOW WHAT AN AWESOME MAC!

Has she ever made an even slightly-negative comment about anything - ever?!

She's on Tim's payroll most likely so, no.

I think we need to accept that Youtube fame is based on popularity. It isn't good or bad; it is just how the platform works.

The idea that there are objective standards by which we can judge the quality of a Youtube channel is plain silly. That is just trying to impose your idea of structure onto an unstructured world.

Un, why did Apple seed iJustine a review unit?

This and other reasons are why we see so many a bit upset.

This isn’t for you. Never was. Ok sure. But why on earth would Apple market this the same way they do their consumer products? And give it to reviewers who have no clue and appeal to average consumers?

I grabbed a monitor. It’s a luxury purchase for me. But I’m fine with it. I even grabbed AppleCare. But that’s what’s wrong. If it breaks I want something more than to have to mail it off or lug into a store. Apple should be sending someone to take care of it. This needs to be AppleCare pro. Likewise with a Mac pro.

These are just different animals and support, marketing should be different as well.

I just love these YouTube celebrities. They buy all this expensive crap so they can edit YouTube videos. I mean seriously, 8K footage of what? Why do you need 8K footage of yourself explaining the new Mac Pro?

If you are a video editor doing work for a documentary on how animals live in this climate changing world or some BBC footage of penguins fornicating in the wild then I would think a fast machine justifies the purchase..

These people just live off ad sponsorships and seriously there is no good content they produce except maybe a few product reviews. Of course this is in my own opinion.

HAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Remember when these things was shown at WWDC & the fanboys were screaming at any criticism "It's not for you, it's for professionals". Yes what illustrious pros we have here, folks who make tech gossip vlogs. The world really needed 28 cores, 100's of GB of memory & 1000's of teraflops so overkill 8k videos rattling off stats could be encoded faster even though they don't have any deadlines to work for.

I like iJustine. Her videos are fun and she's basically just a fan girl.

Having said that, I don't see her as a tech reviewer. Just someone that loves tech. I certainly wouldn't make any buying decisions off of her videos since they aren't really reviews in the traditional sense.

Have to be honest that geekbench score isn’t that great for a $52k system, 21000 isn’t anywhere near the highest scores on geek bench.

How many of those subscribers are interested in buying a $6,000 desktop computer?

the whole Mac Pro project is a huge marketing excersize anyway. It’s not as if this is some Super profitable line of business for Apple. Hardly anyone is going to buy these things that’s why their so expensive anyway.

what it does for Apple is create a halo effect for the brand. I.e. reinforcing Apple as the professional creatives choice and therefore allowing them to sell millions more $300 iPads etc..

So even if the project has cost them a billion dollars in development cost they could just say it’s advertising budget and it would all make sense.

hardly any of injustines 6 million subscribers will buy this thing but 6 million of them will finish the video feeling Apple Means “professional”. And that’s all that matters.

I still don't know why Apple didn't make 2 versions of this...they could have made a regular smaller tower and still had this Pro Tower.

The regular could have been half the size with half the ports/cores/etc and would have sufficed for the majority of us.

I don't f--king understand how Apple doesn't get it that many of us mid level pro's do not want an iMac we want a tower with ports/slots/etc and we upgrade as needed...but don't need the abilities of this current Mac Pro.

It's like a giant gap in their product line.

Nope they don’t. I’ve reviewed on amazon for years that stuff we do keep. But we get a nice 1099 to recognize it as income as well. Last year was 22k.

It does get old though. You’d think it’d cool getting stuff early. Some stuff sure. Other stuff it gets a bit repetitive. I basically have a store in my garage. Lol
