HAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Remember when these things was shown at WWDC & the fanboys were screaming at any criticism "It's not for you, it's for professionals". Yes what illustrious pros we have here, folks who make tech gossip vlogs. The world really needed 28 cores, 100's of GB of memory & 1000's of teraflops so overkill 8k videos rattling off stats could be encoded faster even though they don't have any deadlines to work for.
A popular TechTuber who makes a living with their Mac will be very happy to spend some of their hundreds of thousands or millions on Apple’s newly released Mac Pro. But if they’re a smaller celebrity, they probably won’t make enough from YouTube to afford it.

All this halo marketing talk is stupid. If a few pros were sent review units all they have to do is let the usual blogs know. Like this one? And then other media pick up. I’d have never heard of these YouTube reviews otherwise. Their joke followers are insignificant.

So what real benefit does Apple get here other than causing confusion or annoyance? Most here don’t like it. That’s a nice feeling to foster. Bravo Apple. You even have a few in this forum that think these you tubers have some kind of value.

Maybe companies should do this more. Send the YouTube guys who have no clue your product to review. We need to see what iJustine has to say about it. Lol. Maybe Apple should just send her atv+ shows in advance to preview.

Wow, you are really bitter, aren't you? Those reviews aren't for you. If you're buying a Mac Pro you already know what you need and a video review isn't going to change your mind. These videos are for consumers the same way that Bugatti lends a $3.5 million Chiron to Motor Trend for a review. It costs them the cost of shipping. It's to build brand awareness and sell a few iMacs and Macbook Airs. Everyone does it, and it works. That's the benefit. But you know that.

These youtube reviewers are pros in every sense of the word, even if you don't like the content they produce. She literally sat there on video editing for hours. What else do you want from a pro? As for the value of the insignificant followers, she probably pulled in five figures with that video alone because people that aren't arrogant and bitter like her and everyone else that got one.

I'm in the same boat, and same age range.

I am building my first PC ever, a 32 Core threadripper machine (I frustratingly have all the parts except the CPU which is back ordered until God knows when) but with a 32 Core 3.7GHz, 128 GB RAM, RTX 2080ti plus cooler, PSU, case, Windows OS etc, I am at about $5500.

The closest I could price the new Mac Pro to that was $16,000, and that Mac Pro had "only" 28 cores at 2.7GHz and 96GB RAM. (No, I don't have ECC RAM but please, if you are already formulating your defense of Apple PLEASE please please stop. I'm animating, not trying to run cancer simulations. And neither is anyone buying this machine).

There is no way that $16,000 Mac Pro will perform 3x faster than my machine, and odds are it will be equal or slower in most respects.

I'm not saying the $60,000 version won't be nice, but seriously.
I can add 3 more RTX 2080Ti's for Redshift Rendering and still be $7000 under, with insane performance.

This machine is insulting to most pros, and shows Apple to be the elitist company most PC users always thought it was, and this seriously hurts to say as I am so into Apple it hurts.

Please don't hurt me.
If you don’t want or need MacOS, you can probably save money buying a PC. That’s been true for decades.

That said, Lenovo, Dell and HP all have Xeon workstations that costs in excess of $100k. There’s a reason people buy them, but it doesn’t sound like it’s anything you personally need. But others do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

very well said.

as a long time apple fan, the rabid ´bois are the worse thing to ever happen to others that simply love technology and its usefulness.

the lack of any logical thinking, , unlike you, is what puts me off of these days.

A few of reasons people hate Apple YouTubers:

1) Apple haters can't stand to hear someone say something positive about Apple's products. I see many BIG YouTubers review Lenovo and Dell products with barely any criticism and the comments are all positive. Lenovo Thinkpads and Dell XPS machines have a multitude of problems, but because they are not Apple high praise and hiding problems are acceptable to viewers.

2) Apple haters want more Apple trashing from big YouTubers like Unbox Therapy and Linus Tech Tips. Both these YouTubers trash Apple in order to get clicks and I have zero respect for them because they are not objective, but Apple haters love them because they don't give any credit to Apple's products where it's due. If Apple's products were worthy of so much trashing the company and it's products wouldn't be so popular.

3) Lastly, because Apple has grown to be one of the largest companies world wide Apple haters get mad at any praise for products made by a company so big that has become also the most popular company worldwide. Even someone's super-aging grandmother has heard of Apple and the iPhone. Can't say the same about Samsung's Galaxy phones.

What you call trashing is actually bursting the fantasy world that the rabid fanbois love to live in.

are you seriously expecting that nobody should say anything about apple insane price gouging, like asking 400 for small wheels on a computer that starts at 6K?

Pro: With this Mac Pro, I can bill an extra $2,000 a month.

Non-pro: but but but $400 wheels

Pro: This XDR monitor saved me $15,000 compared to the competition.

Non-pro: but but but $1,000 stand

Xeon workstations exist for a reason. Lenovo, Dell and HP all make them too, and some cost more than $100,000.

They’re not for you, but I’m assuming you’re very upset with those machines as well.

Youtube reviewers really are some of the most dislikable people imaginable, it's all so cringe and biassed.

On another note I would have loved to have seen Apple go with AMD, Threadripper/Epyc would've made for a monstrous system. Xeon just can't compete anymore with those hugely expensive monolithic dies.
Could they use Thunderbolt with AMD? I thought that’s Intel.....

Exactly. This machine is not meant to be purchased from your personal checking account, just like front row Lakers tickets and NFL skyboxes aren’t. These are all corporate purchases and they are priced accordingly.

its not that hard, guys.

I have seen my fair share of criticism surrounding Apple since I joined the ecosystem in 2011.

Time has a way of proving the haters wrong.

How are the “pros dont use stands” people defending the fact that the display also doesnt support vesa mounts out of the box?

How many of those subscribers are interested in buying a $6,000 desktop computer?

Not really the point. The Mac Pro is both a super high end machine and also something to be used to show off Apple's engineering prowess, not unlike the super high end cars of mass-market auto brands.

I have to take issue with this. These youtubers are literally editing terabytes of raw 8k footage constantly and producing hours of content every week. Who do you know that has a more demanding workflow than that? Is it the MOST demanding? No. But i'd venture a guess that it's in the top 5%. They give you benchmarks, real feedback on how it is to use the machine and you get to see it in action. That's more than Macworld used to give when they were still producing magazines.

Sure, it's demanding. Practical? No.

Last year RED revealed that they had worked with nVidia to optimize Redcode for decode on RTX cards, so you really just need a 2080ti or above for smooth playback, and you can get more performance with multi-GPU. I think the SDK has already been integrated into Resolve as RED released it in April. Also, the size of files doesn't really matter so much in this case. The highest data rate on any of the DSMC2 bodies is 300MB/s—that would be realtime. Unless the 8K bodies are different than my RED they all record files in 4GB chunks anyway.

I suppose if you want to realtime switch 8K multicam in an edit the Mac Pro could do that well, not that anyone in their right mind would actually do that, but it could. Youtubers going overkill on a multicam 8K shoot is more ridiculous and spectacle than a real workflow though. Hell, most films are shot around 4.5K or less these days on Alexa Mini.

I don’t know who those people are, because pros certainly use stands. Those who need one will buy one.

I suppose Apple could have included the vesa mount in the box and charged $5,200 for the monitor, just as they could have included the stand and simply priced the monitor at $6,000.

But doesn’t it just make more sense for someone to buy the one they need, since you can’t use both at once. Otherwise, you’re paying extra for something you’re just going to toss in a closet.

What's there to defend?

If you are already using a reference monitor in a studio, chances are that it's already attached to a VESA mount. In this case, you don't need to do anything more; the monitor is ready to use out of the box as is.

If you know you need a stand or a VESA mount, then simply purchase one together with the monitor. If you elect not to buy a stand knowing fully well that you need one or because you think it will give you ammo to complain about it online, I think that says more about the buyer than anything else.

Even with the stand, the final price is $6k, way less than the $43000 monitor it was designed to replace.

Still a steal either way.

Wow she surely put that Mac Pro to good use! Can there even BE more useless Apple youtuber?
Since the majority of comments here are sniping at those accessories, she clearly identified a target segment.

So now we are critiquing their business practices? Are you serious? That's totally off base. Who cares WHY they have the workflow, or how they could do it more affordably or more practically? You can find fault with anything. The point is, they edit 8K video all the time and produce hours of content every month. They are the definition of the types of creators that can use and afford these machines and Apple was right to send them review machines.

At least they use them the way they are intended. Remember the days when early access went to guys like Walt Mossberg and David Pogue who wouldn't do anything more taxing than loading Safari and MS Word?

This is more interesting than mindless pumpers.

So watch that instead. I don't see iJustine holding a pink (cmon, you know it would be pink...) gun to your head forcing you to watch her.

I watched the iJustine video and I got the feeling as she had an "orgasm" during unpacking ... 😅
And these sayings: "OMG, this is the best day of my life". Really?

Thankfully, the first video from MKBHD was much more professional.

She is professional as well. 6+ million subscribers and Apple giving her 30,000$ worth of merchandise prove just that.
It's just that her target group is different that MKBHD's and I'm ok with that.
She is more sentimental, spontaneous and yes, naive. Fact is she's selling and that's what is all about.
