To those who have "camped out" at AT&T store on a previous launch-I got a question

This year for the iPhone 4, I am going to camp out at the AT&T store rather than the Apple store for the simple faxt that the primary user cannot be present on launch day, and like many of us Apple fanatics I want mine on launch day.

Last year I went to the Apple store, around 3am and was like 13th in line, what times have you guys gone and what place in line were you? I am deciding on an approriate time for the AT&T rather than Apple.

Appropriate time? You didn't say where you live. If you live in Jibip, Kansas, the appropriate will be considerably different than in NYC. Tell us where you live so that people who went to the store you are going to can tell you what time they showed up.

Duh?

My bad, I meant to put that in the thread. Must have just skimmed over it, even though its a pretty big thing. Haha- I live in Kansas City, MO

Shouldn't be a need to camp out if you reserve one starting on the 15th. Just like the iPad, if you reserved one, you were guaranteed to get it if you showed up by 3pm on launch day.

I went to the Aspen Grove store in Littleton Co. at about 4AM. Got in line just before 5AM and was third in line. They broke everyone into two lines, those who pre-ordered and those who didn't. Those who pre-ordered got in first. I pre-ordered mine.

Well see, I cannot go to the Apple Store as the primary user for the account is going to be out of town. So I an authorized user must go to AT&T, if you preorder from AT&T you can't pick it up it til JUNE 25TH!! So looks as if I will be getting to AT&t about 4AM.

Why not just have it shipped to you. You will get it on launch day w/ new SIM tied to your existing phone number. All you would have to do is plug it into iTunes to activate. Camping out for an iPhone is idiotic when you can pre-order.

???

why do you think you'll need to "camp" out to get one? I've noticed over the past two releases that I've been able to walk right up to Apple Store and pick one right up on the second or third day...I think there will be enough iPhones for everyone in the US that wants one

Yeah that's how vie done it the past three times.

The original release I bout one day 2 by just walking in to a store. Other two were bought shortly after release the same way.

Is AT&T going to allow preorders on the 15th the same as Apple is? Or do you just preorder through Apple and pick up at the AT&T store?

I'm down in Ft. Lauderdale, I camped out at AT&T for the 3G release, I got there about 6pm the day before and I was the 3rd in line.

For the 3Gs I did the preorder and it was delivered to my house.. soooooo much better!!

Waiting in line in the Florida humidity is no fun..

I see no point camping out. I walked into an ATT store the day of release of the 3gs in the afternoon and was in and out in an hour.

Just like the 3gs there will be plenty of availability the day of release and the fact that you can preorder the lines should not be a problem. So let the initial wave of fanboys wait in line over night and you show up after lunch and be in and out in no time.

AT&T will be doing preorders as well as Apple so honestly there is no need for any campouts this year other than the thrill of doing so. I'm preordering mine for delivery to my job for the 24th.

At what time do you think the iPhone 4 lines will start?

I went to the Apple Store for the iPhone 3G on launch day. The Apple Store in Tampa, FL at International Plaza had an insane long line and I went 3 hours before the Store opened. By the time the store opened the line tripled. It was insane.

I bought the 3GS in Tampa, FL on launch day at AT&T, the line was big, but not nearly as my past experience.
I am guessing the line at the Apple Store wasn't nearly as big for the iPhone 3GS.

I know you guys can't predict the future :p, what kind of line should I expect for the iPhone 4 this year? I am thinking of going a little insane, and I am going to try to be one of the first 10 people in line.
What time do you think the line would start? I am thinking about going at "midnight." Do you think that is that to early or to late for my goal.

As a guess, do you think the lines will be as bad as it was for the iPhone 3G or the Original iPhone?

Our local AT&T store expects the same results as last time - overnight campout people for the pre-order, and overnight campout people to to get one in the morning!

Now, this is a reasonable line question.

I would expect a long line. Regarding time, I think that really depends on the area the store is in and if the store is in a mall or not.

It's pre-order all the way, baby. Why would ANYBODY not want to pre-order, and take their chances in a LONG line?

Personally I have to do a return on a 3GS I bought (to get unlimited data) and the preorders for exchange won't arrive til the 25th so I have to camp on the 24th. Shouldn't be too bad, the rep told me that this first person got there at 5 last year and he wasn't feeding me bs. Me and a friend are specifically buying from him since he knows our exchange plan and I'm sure he doesn't want to lose the comission by camping too late. We are gonna get there at 4ish to ensure we are number 1
