I preordered, but based on my past experiences with the iPhone, I'm still getting there a couple hours early. That line moves slooooooooow.

Thanks for the info guys btw I do have a life until there is a new iPhone I preorder it but the guy said first come first serve basis for preorders if I don't get it launch day I would be placed on a waiting list so I was thinking about going around midnight

I live in a town of less than 90,000... last year for the 3GS I went around 4 a.m. I believe and was the 3rd person at the AT&T store (we don't have an Apple store within 120 miles). I didn't pre-order so I'll be waiting at the store again on the 24th for those "devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis." I think this year I might go around midnight or so.

I wasn't trying to make fun of you. I was just trying to be funny...period.

Anyways, I reserved and got an email confirmation. It says there will be one available for pick up for me until the end of business day. Whoever told you that it was on a first-come basis is full of crap.

I pre-ordered for 2, one for me and one for the wife.

Im still waiting on info for the white model. If there is a possibility that white units will be in the stores, I will go at around 5. I called my local store and they said it would be no problem to grab a white with my black reservation.

And in my experience they empty the reservation line then move to the non reservation line, while interrupting with reserved customers as needed.

Reserved two this afternoon. One for myself and my girlfriend. Will be out of town that week, but reserved them for the nearby Apple store. Plan on getting there around 5, just to be safe.

After seeing all of the posts on here, I'm thinking about going at 5:00 AM. I'm going to the Cincinnati, OH store, so I'm not expecting it to be -too- busy. Guess we'll see!

IF they have white iPhones instore only, then probs 3am? If not then 6am. I want to be signed up as soon as possible. I only took half the day off and need to be back at work by 12.30pm.

Yea it's fine I know Ijust want one on launch day

This. I don't get why people want to pickup from the store when they can have it delivered right to their door.

because some people won't be home to sign for it?

ETA: I will stop by around 8 and see how crazy the line is. Might have to check back at lunchtime or after work though...

I just reserved one online for in store pickup since I've given up on the home delivery option. I called my local Apple store to confirm it would be there waiting for me if I come in after work on the 24th and after putting me on hold to check said, "Yes, but I would also call back closer to the date because things could change." So, I guess I'm not all that convinced that it will be there if I go later in the day, but I'm not one to camp out or wait in really long lines (not to mention I don't want to take off of work for this), so I'll have to wait and see. Ugh!

The Apple store where I have reservations is inside of a mall, so I highly doubt that mall management is going to let people camp inside. So I figure if I get there around 6 am, I'll be good. Of course, this will only be necessary if AT&T cancels my pre-order, which they've been doing for a lot of people who paid with debit cards. If they don't, then I'll cancel my reservations and let the rest of the fine folks in my city have them.

one other positive thing about being their early is that you can activate early because I'm sure any later the activation is going to be a pain to do.

You'll get your phone if you go 30 mins before the door opens, but beware that you'll be waiting in line for a while.

I waited in line for the 3GS last year. I got in line at midnight just to experience the camp out and have fun. It was a little much, but still a ton of fun.

Anyways, last year at 30 mins to open the line was about 250 people long. I expect the line for the iPhone 4 to be at least twice or three times that, so unless you want to be waiting for a very very long time while you watch person after person walk out of the store with their shiny new phones, I might suggest showing up a little earlier. I have to show up early this year because I need to get to work in the morning!

I chose to "reserve for in-store pickup" instead of delivery because I will be at work all day so I won't be able to sign for it. (I'm assuming they wouldn't just leave the apple package at my doorstep)

I've never reserved an iPhone before. Can anyone verify the process (for those of you who reserved a 3GS for in-store pick up)

Since the Apple store is holding my iPhone on the 24th until 9pm (or whenever the store closes), I assumed I could just stroll by on my lunch break or after work and pick up my phone. I don't understand why people who reserved phones want to show up at 6am "just in case"? I live in Chicago and I'm sure the downtown Apple store will have a line, but those are people who didn't reserve a phone, yes? Why would I have to stand in line with them? Can't I just walk up to the counter with my drivers license and pick up my phone and leave? That can't take more than 20 minutes or so. Please advise.

Yes, you are guaranteed to have a phone waiting for you. But what if there are 50 other people who also have a phone waiting for them? They all have to get their phones, get them activated, and whatever else they need. That takes time. I doubt that you'll be able to just walk right up to the counter and be in and out in 5 minutes.

I'm doing the in store pick up because I want the phone early. Leaving my house in the afternoon and don't wanna have to rely on Fed Ex.

Who couldn't get through, forced to camp now??

Porting my number for the new iPhone, have been planning on a 32gb White model ever since it was announced, decided 32gb Black would be fine.. Waited until 6am. Couldn't get through, tried literally all day and now that all of the reservations are spoken for am going to have to camp out on launch day. So who else has abandoned trying to pre order and is simply going to stake it out the 24th in the first come first serve line?

I'll camp out for the white if i have to, but i really didn't want to.

Apple needs to hurry up and say something about this situation. Every passing minute my anger and disappointment with them as a company gets worse. Have they no respect?!

Today has been ridiculous. I feel that I deserve an iPhone more than some people as a developer. I've been trying to get to order one for launch day all day and now I am told that it won't ship until July 2. Ridiculous.

I know that I sound like an arrogant fool when I say I deserve an iPhone more than some people, but lets face it. Do you know how many people got it because it's a fad? Ooo look at it's shiny buttons. People that buy things and have no clue how how to use them. It kills me when I see people do this.

But it's America and everyones dollar is equal to each others dollar in the end. I just rant because I thought today was an absolute mess.

Preorders were open at 1:00AM PST and I was done at 1:03PST. I consider myself VERY lucky.
