i don't think it's that far off the mark. Some GPUs will be stronger in some areas than others. It's based off benchmark results rather than an argument down the pub. ;)

Keep in mind that the comparisons may be influenced by CPU. G4 vs Core i7 is an unfair matchup which may slightly skew the results in some tests. Notebookcheck.net list many mobile GPUs in a similar way if you'd like another source? I haven't checked it ... so this might get embarrassing. :)

Interesting reading over at Notebookcheck on their benchmarks...both Intel HD & Mobility 9700 graphics are described as 'office class'...not reassuring news for flagship Apple laptop owners in both periods.

Moore's Law has not been slowing down, nor is it in immediate danger of doing so.

Intel and other chip manufacturers have just chosen to do something different with it of late - instead of going for near-doubling of performance at a given watt rating, they have been going for reducing power usage by 50% at a given performance level.

Moore's Law says nothing about individual performance, power usage, or even transistor size, it is solely about increasing transistors per dollar. Intel could stick at 22nm, with the current performance-per-watt, and as long as their improvements allow them to decrease the cost, they're keeping with Moore's Law.

It's here!! Thank you Cameron!

I ran a quick test on my powerbook and javascript is running almost 9 times faster vs TFF31:

Are there any websites you can recommend that illustrate the speed ups (not benchmarking) to compare browsers? I think I'm always going to be on a losing streak with TFF though as so many sites I use require Flash.

Anyone noticing that Preferences is coming up as a tab, not a separate window? And that anything in it is not clickable?

Forgot to mention that I'm also using your tweaks to speed up TFF.
I hope they are working! :D

I'm noticing too that if I use my restart addon (to restart T4Fx) all of a sudden T4Fx starts gobbling memory to the point where it drags the Mac down entirely. I was able to force quit the last time and keep my Mac up, but I haven't tested actually quitting yet.

Betas are fun!* :(

*But I'm glad we have one to test.

Preferences are all click-able for me also.
One big thing I noticed right away is that now when I scroll a webpage my CPU usage only goes up minimally (5-10%), and returns to zero almost immediately.
Whereas in earlier versions when I scrolled, my CPU % usage would go way up (50-75%) and took several seconds to start back down.

I'm not surprised about G3 support being cut, you needed a 800/900 Mhz iBook G3 with maxed out memory for most "online tasks" as scripting jacks up both CPU+RAM usage--my 12" PB G4 hits 70% sustained load to a point of being able to cook an egg on the underside just reading the DailyMail err DailyFail! (no other site hits any PPC/Intel Mac as hard as that site... Torygraph is fairly minimalist like Guardian)
My old iMac G3(333 Mhz) is a doorstop for most tasks since 2004... only kept it for looks.

The only problem I have with this build is that I can't load Facebook... loads only half of the content, while if I start TFF in safe mode it works. I've already disabled all the extensions and add-ons but no luck.

Yeah, I'm noticing that FB only partially loads for me.

I have to assume that it's a combination of the new JS engine in the browser and recent FB changes. Hopefully the next beta will fix it.

Yeah it's preforming great on my PBG4, I noticed the remaining charge time shoot up when using the new version. According to system profiler, with iTunes, Spotify, System Profiler, and TFF 38 open, I'm using only around 30% of my CPU. Huge improvements from the last version, I wonder if the tweaks @eyoungren created helps battery?

It seems to be a known bug but the scope of Facebook home is unfortunately too big for Cameron Kaiser to find the needle in the haystack :/
So if you find another site that exhibits the same problem (or other Javascript related problems), please report it.

Cool, thanks for that!

Cameron knows, which means it will be fixed in one of the betas at some point. Apparently, the ram hit has also been reported as well.

This is just beta 1. Can't expect stable out of it yet. And I've been through the rollback dance with T4Fx before. This is not a showstopper yet as I can access FB other ways. Annoying yes, but totally now Cameron's fault.

What sites do you use that need flash? On some sites, if you change your user agent to look like an iPad then you can get a mobile site that does not use flash, and even for sites that don't use flash, it can still offer a performance boost. In fact I think that in a few years, if our PowerPC's are still working, then mobile user agent will be the only way to get them online at all.
