I read most of this thread with big concerns, since I bought a series 5 three days ago after passing my series 4 to my son.
So far my results are quite different from most of yours.
I left anything on but the noise app (useless for me) and tried two different conditions: AoD on and AoD off.
Taking the Watch out of charge at 6:15AM I had 43% left by 11:00PM with AoD on and 53% left with AoD off. Both cases with 60/80 minutes of mixed training indoor/outdoor.

very little to complain here.
yesterday I had the opportunity to stay with my son the whole day and we checked battery levels through the day. Series 4 and series 5 had no big differences until the late evening, when my series 5 actually did better.
On a less intensive day like yesterday (only 20 minutes of training) I had 60% left at the end of the day, around midnight. Enough for a two days usage.

i really don’t know what’s wrong with your series 5.

Anybody here got the nomad pad and had issues waking up to your watch on 87%? It’s like it’s charged then the battery drops...not sure if it’s watch issue or nomad pad issue as a message came on saying this accessory is not made for Apple Watch

I agree. The performance of my S5 with AOD on is almost as good as my S4. The additional drain on my battery is about 0.5% per hour more than the S4. I expect that to improve once 6.1 is released. I have had every series of watch since 2015 and never had a battery issue. The only difference for my S5 is that I set it up from new.

Greetings,
I believe the battery drain is related to the OS itself. My series 5 didn't arrive until a week ago. I installed watchOS on my series 4 and it wouldn't last through the day using my normal complications (info graph with 3rd party apps). The battery was so bad that when I went on vacation I left my AW at home because I knew the battery wasn't going to last all day. My series 5 arrived and I installed it and set up as a new watch last Friday. The battery has been horrendous and required a couple of rechargers through the day. I was using the Sun Dial complication. I finally did a hard reset of my phone and watch yesterday. I switched back to my info graph dial and I have 8 complications including Carrot Weather for both wind and current temps, moon phase, rain, sunset/sunrise, date, carrot weather alerts, and activity and since resetting it I've been wearing if for 1.5 hours today with tons of alerts and I'm still at 100%. I would recommend a hard reboot of both phone and watch. I may end up switching back to the sun dial to see if that will now make it through the day. Good luck!

Also I have AOD on but turned off Hey Siri and Noise detection. (I have always turned off Hey Siri). I also turned off most of the background app refreshes except for those required for my complications.
....normally after 1.5 hours I would be down to 92% so I'm hopefully the reboots have fixed my issues.

I got the idea from this forum (forgot who posted it, sorry) to delete the Apple Podcast app. Since I don't use it, it was no big deal to do so (and you can add it back if you want). I've noticed better battery life on both my S5 and my year old XS Max. Something is buggy with that app, I think.

Curioous what is your Usage/Standby times? Also what watch face/complications are you using?

My new Ceramic is using around 4% per hour.

Down to 84%

Usage 1 hr 12 min
Standby 3h 56min

The Gold SS S5 I had for 2 weeks also used the same however 2 days before I took it back it dropped to around 2.5% per hour with nothing different 🤷‍♀️

Both setup as new.

I really hope the next update fixes battery life.

Watch face and complications you can see in the picture.
I’ll let you know about timings tomorrow.

Did anyone update to iOD 13.1.3? If so, did you notice an improvement? I am wondering if I should update.
I did, and nothing changed (but my Apple Watch is doing very well).

Mine set up as new. No reasons to do something else since every data is on the phone imho.

I collected my S5 on the day before iOS 13.1.3 was released. First impression - battery life was horrendous compared to my S3. However after I updated my iPhone 11 Pro to 13.1.3, the battery life of my S5 seems to have improved. It's 5.30pm now, I've been wearing since 8am this morning, and battery life is still at 72%. AOD is on and I've tinkered with the watch faces during the day. Should have no problem to last till end of the day. It's only 3rd day after I installed iOS 13.1.3, but so far so good, the battery drain on S5 seems to have been resolved. Suspect iOS was the culprit, not WatchOS...

Tried ‘old school’ with AOD off and raise to wake on. Most background refresh on except for a few. Theater mode while sleeping.

I am at 2.5 hours of usage and over 22 hours of standby with 60% remaining. Unless it loses 10% in under 2 hours that matches or beats my AW4.

Seems like AOD is about a 10-15% hit on battery life. Not bad when you consider it’s always on. If 6.1 improves that then all the better. I am happy with the battery life of my AW5.

After 3 weeks of using i decide to unpair and pair again the watch and .... Its much better since that. Usually i've ended up at 20-15% after 12 hours of using AW5, yesterday first day after the procedure ended up at 50%. I have every day 2,5 hours of heavy using of AW5 ( 30-40 min Cardio and nearly 2 hours of GYM workout using GYMLife app on AW5 ). This morning disconnected the watch from charger at 8 a.m. now is 9:50 a.m. and still on 100% battery. I hope that drain is fixed now.

I don’t know what happened but I am now 7 days in. Today I took it off the charger at 9.00. I have since recorded four bicycle rides of a total of 3hours and 47 minutes at 18.00 and I have 48% left of the battery.
Strange.

Here are my results on my AW5 after the latest 6.1 beta. It’s night and day for battery usage. I thought I was going to have to return it. This is with a 3 mile run and always on display at 9:50 p.m.
