I've had my watch a week now and it is settling down quite well. I have AOD on as well as raise to wake, basically everything is on except noise detection. I'm averaging about 3.3% an hour. I've been for several walks today, probably about an hour or so. One I used the "outdoor walk" workout, the other I didn't. Also, my phone battery drain has stopped and I am now getting the regularly expected battery life from it. So, I'm happy, for now.

Today my Series 4 went from 50% to 7% in a matter of minutes and then went to 0% in couple more minutes and died. But before that, it was averaging 3.5% per hour since this morning.

Hmm, I wonder why my watch isn't showing usage and standby data today. It was fully charged last night

One thing i noticed today, I made a lot of phone calls (on my phone) and my watch is way lower at this point of day then it typically is.

Do the people that have really bad battery life make a lot of phone calls?

That un-pair and re-pair worked like a charm.
Took my watch off the charger at about 6:30/7am it's now 3pm Pac time and I'm down to 86%

Very happy with battery life now. As good as I was getting with Series 4.

AOD on, Background app refresh on.

70 minute workout today.

4 Hours 4 minutes usage
15 Hours 5 Minutes Standby

Battery sitting at 40%

Last day of returning it for a refund so I am sending my 4G Nike back. The battery life without iPhone carried with me is just way too bad.

I think you are definitely on the right track. LTE drains mine incredibly fast particularly in a weak cell area. I think the S5 may have a diff modem to S4 or there are some major bugs. Anyway I am on my second S5 and it’s the same as the first. What is most disappointing is that there is complete silence from Apple on any fix forthcoming.

Has anyone tried cellular using Beta 6.1?

I have the same battery behaviour with 6.1 beta 3/4 as 6.0.1.
It's good in both cases and in line with Apple specs.
LTE eats a lot when used, but it's normal.

We might see Public 6.1 this week that may help...fingers crossed. For the most part though, the S5 is only an 'S' increment and I think that the S6 next year will ensure that Apple stays ahead of the competition.

Keep us posted

Will do, won’t be able to measure properly until it’s fully charged. I have removed my data plan for the watch though...don’t think I would use it personally plus with battery life concerns not sure it’s wise to use...

Still deciding wether to keep raise to wake on or off....

I turned off raise to wake and really don't miss it. It seems so intuitive now to look at the time and if I want to use the watch, I tap the screen or twist the crown. YMMV though

EDIT:

Only on a short dog walk - about 40 mins. It drained about 15% including running the walk workout I think. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary from memory. I'll check again this lunchtime when I walk the dogs again

Also, I won't be able to get a reliable LTE test today as I have just re-paired my watch and I think the first day is always terrible.

People discussing LTE drainage, It’s always been that way. I get the same battery drain on my S5 as I did on my S4 using LTE. It’s the exact same watch so thinking it’s different is a little strange. Same CPU, same internals, different screen technology.

Now if AOD is on it could drain it a little faster, but otherwise I get the same as my S4.

First workout with replacement watch it dropped 12% during a 45 minute workout while the old one would drop 15% at least during a 40 minute workout so progress at least I guess

more testing needed though.

Yeah I may turn it off as it becomes more like a watch then..will test the battery life differences

It depends on what you mean by a lot. I have experienced 40% drop in 40 minutes while exercising indoors with music streaming from the storage on the watch. I don’t think this would be classed as normal. It’s so bad that every time I go to the gym I have to remember to turn LTE off.

I came from a series 3 LTE and the 3 definitely differs in the way LTE drains. it’s possible that for the 5 there is different software treatment in a weak cell area as this is when my S5 drops significantly. In an area with good LTE it seems within Apples specs.

An update.. it’s now been a few weeks.

I am using my AW5 just like I used my AW4 and getting as good, or better, battery life. With AOD off and RTW on I am at 50%+ after 24 hours. This morning I was at 55% after 24 hours.

I have found that if I use AOD on and RTW off I get within about 90% of the AW4 battery life.

I have background refresh on for most apps, including Carrot Weather.. which is pretty ‘active’ in Florida.

Again, note that while sleeping I enable Theater Mode.

Happy with this 5, whether I use AOD or not.. 10% hit isn’t that bad as it’s still almost 2 full days for me.

...
I use it for running outdoors, and my tests show that I lose about 20%/h with GPS/AOD/LTE ON
So it's in line with Apple specs.
