Nah, you can see the tangible progress being made with those Tesla products as they’re refined/approach release, whereas there’s nothing from Apple on AirPower
What a bizarre failing you choose. AirPower? It's an afterthought of a product that already has 3rd party solutions. Obviously, Apple never card much about it or else they wouldn't have shifted engineering priorities away from it. On the other hand, Tesla built their business and investor money on a series of overpromises, exaggerations and lies. Elon does deliver on most things eventually but his timelines are BS and coming under major scrutiny by all which is completely different than a sneak peak for a product that was never released and wouldn't have made a dent in revenues anyway.

There are other examples, AirPower it’s just the most notable. Every company gives optimal figures, Apple with performance numbers on their desktops and laptops to the point of false advertising (they even had the gall to advertise an iMac with a desktop GPU of given performance, and used a mobile unit with 2/3 the performance). They lie, inject themselves into virtue signalling politics and tokenism to the point where one needs a shower, and falsely promise (Mac Pro 2013, Mobile.me and many others).

On balance, they provide a superior product and service, but everything you accused Tesla of, Apple is guilty of and then some. Tesla is doing more for the auto and energy industry than what Apple did for the phone market

I guess you didn’t own a phone before iPhone existed? Or small screens, T9, styli with resistive plastic touch screens, dial-in voice mail, limited data, etc. were your favorite things?

I think they're comparable. But the auto and energy industry are way more important, or at least more useful.

I don’t care what Musk says bout Apple or vice versa, that doesn’t have an affect on me as a consumer in order to what I choose what I want to drive for a vehicle. I see others making childish remarks about ‘Tesla‘s are ugly’, ‘they’re poorly made’, etc. And the argument goes both ways where others have had success stories with their Tesla’s. Seriously, when it comes to _any_ vehicle in terms of aesthetics, it is up to each their own situation.

I’ve owned a lot of fast cars over the years, with my most recent my 650+ Camaro, if I do purchase a M3 for an EV, it’s not because of the 0-60 time. I’m looking at a vehicle that I want maintenance free with no oil changes, and no fuel costs. It’s more of an investment than it is a ‘fun toy’ for me. Maybe that’s the point that some people are missing in this entire thread, is that others simply want the enjoyment of an EV, but they enjoy also how it looks and it’s a cost saving measure over the course of time.

That isn't a childish remark. Tesla has poor build quality compared to other manufacturers.
Even Tesla owners grudgingly admit that and it doesn't matter to them because they love their car. It doesn't change the fact that Tesla has poor build quality compared to other manufacturers.

For sure. Love my tesla. But fit, finish, and software quality is not good.

<Snipped>….

Thank you for pointing this out. I should’ve been more cognizant of this, not being a Tesla owner myself yet. Let me go back and edit my post to reflect ‘Tesla has poor build quality compared to other manufacturers.’

I've heard fit and finish of newer non end of quarter cars is better. I don't have any commentary on the software quality, other than to say it appears better than my Volt (but that may not be saying much).

Automotive software seems to be of extremely variable quality.

Not long ago, I had all sorts of oddities reported on a VAG car - the display informed me of things like failed ABS and told me to stop immediately, then reported all well. Several times. The underlying issue was eventually found to be a failing wheel sensor - but the software and diagnostics used - failed to identify that. And the main dealer more or less said that they thought it might be that sensor, and would replace it, but were not sure.

The system should have been able to handle the failure without reporting many other things. Especially once it had become suspect.

Elon sucks with time, we all know this. Tesla in the end still produces results, regardless of how late they are.
Elon is just a bull *******.
From a couple months ago:
"DMV asked CJ to address, from an engineering perspective, Elon’s messaging about L5 capability by the end of the year," reads a memo by a DMV official summarizing the meeting. "Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality per CJ."

I agree Tesla is doing for EVs what Apple did for phones. But disagree on the scale of dishonest marketing. Apple's CPU/GPU/recalls numbers are solid (certainly more solid than Tesla's build quality track record), more solid than any other PC/phone maker I can think of. But Apple doesn't mislead investors and consumers into believing a new billion dollar service (taxis, self driving) or product (semis, crypto) is right around the corner when common sense would dictate otherwise. In other words, Apple rumors exist much to Apple's disdain while Tesla rumors (claims) exist simply because of Musk.

And don’t forget… “funding secured”.

“Walled garden” ?. Here is a quote from Car and Driver, regarding maintenance costs of the Model 3; “Although not included in our official tally of regular maintenance or normal wear, we've had some pricey fixes as well. For example, a stone chip in the glass roof set us back $1200 for a new one, and we paid $1100 for a new windshield for the same reason. And, since Tesla owns all of its service centers and maintains tight control over its parts, there are fewer options to shop around for service in cases like these than for most other cars. Elon is just a loud hypocrite, in constant need of media attention, IMO.

You would think the part suppliers would just sell to anyone that is willing to pay (at least for the glass, since we know Tesla uses more than one supplier). It does seem odd that there is no one selling the glass third party doesn't it?

I will never understand people dropping over 60k on an ugly model 3 with a non premium interior, poor build quality, and crappy paint. They look like saturns, they look like a 25k car.

I know some Tesla owners. They like the performance and that matters to them above anything else. Not to me. Not at my age. Model 3 and Y are in no way luxury cars. I rode in the backseat of an early model S and the road noise was terrible for a so called luxury car.

That’s weird. When I give people rides in my model s the first thing they always say is how quiet it is.

That’s my impression as well. I have a BMW M340i and no way would I trade it for a Tesla. Such a better ride with a luxury interior, better handling, better breaking, comparable speed to the performance model 3, and the paint/build quality is top notch.

At one point, I had contacts inside the UK automotive glass industry. All was not as it might appear. For example, one company contracted for every single sheet of glass of a certain specification for something like two years. Therefore, even their most aggressive competitors had to buy from them - at a suitably inflated cost.

I don't doubt you. Some of my friends say the same. While others, like me, say it was way too noisy given what it's supposed to be. I would hate playing the Tesla lottery.

Part of it may be that you don’t hear the engine/transmission/etc., so the road noise sounds more prominent? I dunno.
