Jokes aside, what was the reason Tesla got into making chargers? Unless they want to throw these into their cars, this is the dumbest move ever...

So many people saying they would never buy this because of the brand name. People say this about Apple too. They call it "over priced crap" without even knowing what it is or how it works.

Apparently, large charging platforms are hard to design. Apple tried and failed.

Me? If the wireless charger costs more than $20, I'll use a wire. But do realize these chargers are really not easy to design because they need to find your devices and configure the magnetic field to not waste energy. The phone does not have an "I am here" locator on it. The charger has to find your devices using only the charging coils. There are lots of parts and some non-trvial software inside.

Tesla also makes solar panels for your roof and the "Power Wall" battery system and they are working on a humanoid robot. A charger seems to fit into their power-related product line.

My guess is that Elon Musk wanted a large surface charger then did not require him to have to align his phone with the charging coils by hand and said "how hard can this be?" and decided to make one. He found it is not easy at all to design these things, hence the high price.

Probably for the same reason BMW sells overpriced swag like this:

It's just branding and marketing.

And might some day save the elderly from the dreaded "it's time to take your keys" situation. I've ridden in a FSD car, it's imperfect, but pretty neat and WAY beyond what anyone else has to offer in the industry.
Yup, looking out for myself in that regard. gonna come a day when I can’t drive and I hope self driving cars can be summoned.

Hope I live to see it. Would be a hell of a thing.

Whatever floats your boat. As a Tesla owner, I’d much rather see a redesigned car pad adapter that would charge the larger sized iPhones of the last few years! Fix that first or concurrently. Also the car charger pad was NOT cheap…I’ll leave the debate on whether it should have been included to others.

The Tesla tank is the most innovative and coolest thing to come out of any company since the iPhone. Too bad Apple forgot how to innovate.

Little did Schiller know that he was predicting Apple’s future when he sarcastically said “can’t innovate anymore, my…”

They dont care about non-apple compatibility with Their charging pad.

That's wrong. Apple joined the wireless Power Consortium.

Ive seen chargers that handle two watches, but if you want to charge three or four watches you are going to need more than one charger

AirPower would have charged 3 watches. There's one reason.

Air Power’s killer features were the ability to place devices anywhere and charge more than one device but now that apple is using magnets for alignment that feature is unnecessary. And you can buy 2-1 and 3-1 chargers So AirPower as it was announced is an unnecessary product.

But that's not the only feature. There are other features which is why Apple is still working on it. It's a non-zero reason to continue working on AirPwer.

If you move the nearest pad coil then it would reduce power sent to the device charging next to it.

Nope. It's not much different than the MagSafe puck adjusting to the location.

You may just need to accept having more than one charger. I bet you could DIY the exact kind of charger you want with three watch chargers, some double sided tape, and a usb hub.

That's not the argument. Argument is that there is a non-zero reason for Apple to continue working on AirPower.

While their stock tanks and investors stream to the exits, Tesla's way of showing they're focused on success is to release a novelty phone charger that's supposed to remind people of a vehicle they still can't ship.
Most tech stocks and consumer discretionary stocks have tanked… a quick look at AMZN, META, GOOGL, NFLX, BIDU, Z, NET, etc. will tell you that.

Even with the recent implosion, TSLA’s PE is still 2x higher than AAPL and it’s looking like a much better value and long-term investment. Even if Tesla’s growth is cut in half due to the recession, they’d still grow a minimum of 5x faster than Apple.

FACTS:
Tesla is still selling every car they make, the Tesla semi is just getting started, and Cybertruck (the coolest thing since iPhone) has well over 2 million pre-orders which will take years to fulfill. That doesn’t include their work on robotics and solar energy. Tesla’s potential is enormous because they’re still disrupting markets.

Disclaimer: I don’t own TSLA shares and never have, but I will likely buy a ton within the next 6 months when the market bottoms. I pre-ordered the Cybertruck a few months ago which I probably won’t see until 2024 because I was late to the party :(

Unless Tesla can improve their build quality and styling, they are not going to be able to compete. Look at the build quality of a Tesla and then look at the VW iD.4 or an Audi e-tron. Tesla's are laughably cheap and inconsistent.

The vast, vast majority of people outside of the 'tech bubble' are going to be far, far more comfortable buying and EV from a company they know and trust that has been around a long time: Honda, Toyota, Ford, GM, Volkswagen. VW/Audi in particular are coming HARD for EVs.

High speed charging network? Most automakers aren't dumb enough to go out and build their own, they know others will do it (private companies, government investment and subsidies).

You can believe whatever you want, but Musk will drive Tesla into the ground through his arrogance. At this point, the potential market for Tesla is shrinking.
So ZERO competition, as I thought.

Tesla did it why can't Apple?

A chonky block is easy. Many have done it. A thin charging mat isn’t. Nobody has done it.

This is the Cybertruck. They’ve just had to scale back the feature set for v1.
