Tesla is starting to face real competition from established car makers now, and people were already going to find the traditional car companies to be lower risk.
What make/model is real competition to the Model 3? What is real competition to the Model Y? Don't just name them, tell us how many they'll deliver this year, what they're expected to produce/sell next year, and describe their high speed charging networks: Are they as big as the supercharger network, both in number of stations and stalls per station? What is there uptime?

As for lower risk, legacy auto had a bad 2020, a worse 2021, and 2022 likely will have been worst of all. These are companies with enormous debt, shrinking revenue, and billions of dollars invested in soon to be stranded assets. If I were looking for a new car right now, I'd have serious doubts that any legacy auto company will be around as long as the car I might buy from them.
 
This looks great. Chuck your stuff anywhere and it'll charge (assuming it doesn't catch fire) which is a great improvement over traditional Qi charging UX. It's a shame people get too caught up in winning internet points for hating Elon to recognise a potentially good product.

Unless Tesla can improve their build quality and styling, they are not going to be able to compete. Look at the build quality of a Tesla and then look at the VW iD.4 or an Audi e-tron. Tesla's are laughably cheap and inconsistent.

The vast, vast majority of people outside of the 'tech bubble' are going to be far, far more comfortable buying and EV from a company they know and trust that has been around a long time: Honda, Toyota, Ford, GM, Volkswagen. VW/Audi in particular are coming HARD for EVs.

High speed charging network? Most automakers aren't dumb enough to go out and build their own, they know others will do it (private companies, government investment and subsidies).

You can believe whatever you want, but Musk will drive Tesla into the ground through his arrogance. At this point, the potential market for Tesla is shrinking.

Geez, I can understand Musk schadenfreude, but their stock tanking is "the best Christmas gift ever"?
 
Do we remember when Apple said our watches were Qi-compatible? What happened to that?

 
Just like how Apple makes monitor stands, polishing cloths and wheels that exist purely for the purpose of maintaining a premium image of the brand.
  • Monitor Stand: Holds up monitor. The XDR does not ship with any way to secure it, since it is meant to be portable/modular. It literally is leaning against a wall or sitting screen-up on the ground without that stand or the optional magnetic VESA mount plate
  • Polishing Cloth: Cleans monitor. The Monitor has an optional nanotexture to diffuse specular light sources, but that means that even lightly abrasive cleaners or clothes could potentially damage that texture over time
  • Wheels: Allows computer to be moved around without carrying it.
But sure, compare them to VW-brand ketchup, or to a Tesla cellphone charger which neither contains Tesla batteries nor is built to work within a Tesla vehicle.

Smells like a test for FreePower: If the supplier relation works, maybe they'll start putting FreePower tech in cars to better support different device sizes.

(I have been using FreePower for over a year with Nomad charging station: It works, but is less efficient than MagSafe. Also, it sometimes heats the devices up a lot - apparently depends on exact position)

Yep, those were two of the three reasons I heard Apple eventually killed Airpower:

1. Manufacturing complexity - it was difficult to get the devices made to their tolerances for even Apple-levels of "reasonable" cost. My understanding is that the difficulties in scaling up manufacturing were what ultimately burned the product.
2. Coil alignment - if the device was not aligned (or if manufacturing variance meant that the coils themselves were not perfectly aligned), the power in doesn't serve to charge the device - it turns to heat
3. Efficiency - you then both lose charging power and potentially have to throttle charging to limit heat if the device is not properly aligned. You can put the device anywhere, but have a much worse experience.

So Apple instead scrapped it and came up with a system for magnetic alignment. Since the device winds up being aligned with a coil designed specifically specced for charging that device, they can also pump a lot more power through before having to throttle for heat.

Turns out, adding a magnet is also cheaper than a 7:1 or even 10:1 ratio of charging coils to chargeable devices, and they could use then use those magnets for other accessories.

Ah. I always wondered what happened when devices weren’t lined up dead-center with the charging coils.
 
Apple announces AirPower and never delivered.

Telsla announces CyberTrucks and never delivers but instead delivers what Apple could not.

So is apple making a CyberTruck soon?

Ignoring all of the tedious comments from brave, virtuous activists who imagine they are saving the world by not buying this because the CEO of the company also owns a website in which you can publish tweets about what dinner you ate (whilst continuing to fanatically support a company which actively employs slave labour), I think it looks like a pretty awesome design.

You're just figuring this out now?? Pick any mall parking lot and the Tesla drivers are the one racing alongs like it's a speedway.

Kudos to Musk for pushing the EV market forward, but the Tesla brand definitely attracts a certain breed of people.
 
Apple couldn’t do the charger. Elon landed space rockets, I’m sure he could make a phone if he wanted… after all a few dozen companies already do that to various degrees of success.

Apple made a charger, but the technology wasn't up to their standards. They had the guts to admit that and not release a product that they invested money and time into.

Tesla incorporated 3rd-party technology (hint: not theirs!) that has already proven to be frustrating to use for some people.
