$300 for an ugly charging mat? Is it that hard to plug a cord into a phone? Or even get one for under $50 on Amazon? Nice try Tesla!

LMAO Muskrats think Space Karen invented Panasonic’s batteries and recharging from solar panels hahahahaha this thread is chef‘s kiss. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

He get's a lot of credit for what other engineers have done, but obviously the guy had a pretty big input to the success of the company. Now that might be funding, drive, etc, but a successful project requires all of that and more.

On another note I laugh every time I hear people are never going to buy a Tesla because of Musk. You're more upset about a whiney man child than you are over companies that exploit workforces that encourage slavery and substandard work environments. The product you, me and everyone else type this on was built in conditions that are far from humane.

Let's get serious here, if you hate Musk, great, but as far as things go you use products from companies that treat humans just as bad if not worse.

Elon is a mastermind. After he dies he’ll be known as a genius just like Jobs.
I remember back when geniuses didn't have to die before they were recognized as such. Those were the days before social media when they didn't have to publicly announce every stupid, racist, homophobic, hateful, ignorant, etc. thing they were thinking at the moment.

Tesla today announced the launch of the Tesla Wireless Charging Platform, a $300 wireless charger that is able to charge up to three Qi devices at one time.

tesla-wireless-charger.jpg

The concept is somewhat similar to the AirPower that Apple wanted to produce as the three devices can be placed anywhere on the Tesla charging mat, receiving up to 15W of power each.

Tesla says that the angular design of the charging mat was inspired by the look of the Cybertruck, and it features an aluminum housing with an alcantara surface and detachable magnetic stand that can be used for charging flat or at an angle.

Apple in September 2017 announced the AirPower, a multi-device charger designed to charge the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once. Apple wanted users to be able to place their devices anywhere on the AirPower to charge, but the overlapping wireless coils required were problematic, with Apple seeing heat management and interference issues that prevented the product from being viable. While the AirPower was meant to launch in 2018, it never appeared, and Apple confirmed its cancelation in 2019.

Tesla's charging mat is using FreePower, a technology from Aira that has been used in other wireless charging platforms like the Base Station Pro from Nomad. Nomad's Base Station Pro also supported charging from anywhere on the charging platform, but it turned out to be problematic because it did not work well with the iPhone 12 and later because of a firmware issue.

While Tesla's concept is similar to what Apple hoped to achieve with the AirPower, it is limited to Qi-based devices like the iPhone and the AirPods and it does not charge the Apple Watch.

I bought a tesla a week ago and can report that it has a crappy Qi charger. It appears to be too weak to work thru my (non-Apple) iPhone 14 case.

Why do I feel like this charger got inspired by Apple's own AirPower? Oh, wait! It did 🤦‍♀️

What to do if you have to charge an Apple Watch? 😩
Just with the small difference that Tesla was actually able to pull it off while Apple couldn’t. This is actually very weird, Apple engineers couldn’t do something and practically released a statement saying it was impossible and now Tesla has accomplished it.

Yeah the charger in these is junk, I just go the cable route each time. Now since the recent update they FINALLY added Apple Music the phone can just stay in the little cubby area until I get out.

Tesla is just another one of those exploitative companies so I guess we each have to each prioritize our own purchases and patronage based on companies, their public statements and actual results. Since Musk is the biggest mouth these days, he gets the most critics which only seems fair to me.

I really don't care about Musk at all (clarifying, I don't care what people think of him .. he brought it on himself), the demonizing of people because they bought a car from the company is just stupid though. For us, we bought the Model 3 two years ago. Would I do it again? Probably not, but not because of Musk's idiotic public stunts but due to there being more choice on the market (I would love to have an Ioniq 5 or EV6, Rivian, etc). Just pointing out the stupidity of hating on others because of a product they own, many people here dislike the fanboys telling them their Apple device is inferior but instead are happy to turn around and do it to someone else. Just silly.

Tesla produces cells at Fremont, California and Gigafactory Texas. It does also use 3rd party suppliers like Panasonic to meet supply demands. Is Apple any less of a computer company because it uses TSMC produced processors and screens produced by Samsung, who also manufactures Android devices?

I’m acknowledging that companies use third parties. You should tell that to ye faithful and brainwashed who believe the hair transplanted man child is an engineer and inventor who manufactures everything.

The difference is, people just got dumber and are/were unable to realize that during the person’s life. I always thought Jobs was a genius, and essentially the visionary behind Apple BEFORE he died. You know, when his critics minimized him to “just a good salesman.” Jobs WAS Apple, and a person with so much influence on his company and its products that it would never be the same magical company when he left (during his life and after).

Same with Musk. The man single handedly made EV a reality when it was tried MANY MANY times before him by MUCH larger companies. No he wasn’t the founder of Tesla, but his influence as the CEO turned Tesla from a project niche product to a worldwide leader in EV. Not to mention his other VERY successful companies.

Just as soon as you convince ye faithful Apple worshipers of the same thing :)

It's an impossible task, some people just cant think.

They have always known. Apple users literally posted thousands of repeat threads about which third party panel, GPU and drive manufacturers in their Macs are better. Cmon man, they do it on these boards In front of you And none of them believe an Apple CEO invented those parts because no Apple CEO has ever claimed to be an engineer.

When you make a comparison use brain first. It’s the best computer in the universe when used properly.

We don’t classify CEOs as geniuses. None of them. Not one. Not even if they founded a company. We credit the people they employ to do the work. The people who often don’t get the credit. The people who aren’t **** posting on Twitter.

A real genius like Einstein make discoveries that are mind boggling. No tech or car CEO has ever done stuff like that and never will. The actual geniuses of the world are too busy with research and study to be able to run a company or be in the public eye every day.

When you cherry pick a specific thing (hardware) and ignore another, software, it's easy to think this way. Also, really what is being talked about is "Tesla" inventing things.

Seems like a reason AirPower ultimately failed is MagSafe. Why invest further in Qi charging when you've developed what. you think is a more robust solution (I guess MagSafe is probably technically Qi charging) Anyway, I have the watch/phone MagSafe charger, and aside from not being able to simultaneously charge my AirPods case (which I think is not that big a deal) I think it's better than AirPower could've been. 🤷‍♂️

Who is this "we" you're speaking of? I have seen a LOT of people do the thing you're saying "we" don't do.

Edit: Also, this is some serious gatekeeping of the phrase genius.
