So all you people who got the Samsung screen, where did you purchase your rMBP? Also what time frame?

I went to my local apple store here and I checked a few of the rMBPs they had on display and most were LG some were Samsung.

The reason I am asking about the Samsung screen is because apparently no one has had the weird ghosting and image retention issues with the rMBPs that had the Samsung screen.

Mine is LG - and has a distinct pinkish tinge to the whole screen - very noticeable when beside my Cinema Display.

The display is also very dark (even on Max brightness) in comparison to my 17" MBP ????

The pinkish tinge... I would check the calibration on both.

Darkness is expected. IPS displays tend to be darker than TN panels, and then having a tighter pixel density hurts brightness too.

My newest rMBP: 2.7/16/768
Color LCD
LSN154YL01001

No issues to report, yet :)

Ordered it online the first week of availability, not the day of, but the Friday June 15th

Edit: I'm extremely happy with the display and computer. Awesome performance and a gorgeous display :D

Where (country) and when did you ordered your macbook? Does W31 means calendarweek? I'm just wondering because now its week 32^^

I know, I didn't believe the appleserialnumberinfo website, so called apple and they confirmed. It shipped on Aug 1st, got it on Aug 3rd.

Build Country: - This unit was built in China
Build Year: - This unit was built in the second half of 2012.
Build Week - Week 4 (January) or week 31 (July)
Production Nr.: - This unit was number 820 to be built that week.

LG guys, be VERY certain you dont have ghosting. I have an iron stomach for most of the petty things people are finding "wrong" with these machines. But i DID have an LG panel and i never saw any ghosting at all. but i finally let the screen sit on an image for 20 minutes and sure enough it was there. someone suggested google home page on the solid darg gray background. very minor but it was there. I just returned it today since i was in my two week period (and went for a 2.6 upgrade while i was at it). shipping times are down to a week so it wont be too bad, just hope i dont get another bad panel.

im just saying, make absolutely sure you have no ghosting because once youre past your return date, itll be considered a "repair" and who knows what mess thatll be with the time needed.

LG, and with this one, lifes good! no ghosting, no dead or stuck pixels!! love my rmbp

Well ****... wouldn't you know it. I tested it again this evening and I left the screen up for a good 30 minutes with Chrome open on google and there it was on the grey background.

Calling for a replacement ASAP tomorrow morning. This has become my only machine, getting rid of my last one now - so I've got to get the advanced replacement.

It's too bad, because this LG panel is absolutely gorgeous with no other issues at all.

I have had mine about 3 weeks and as you stated the IR problem got progressively worse. It took about 2-3 min to replicate IR problem on my LG screen.

I just got another replacement (same LG screen) 2 days ago and I was testing for IR issues.

Well, I turned on my computer and left it for about 3-4 hours and...ghosting again!!

I have bought mine thru my university computer store and I will just ask for refund.

Maybe I will wait a bit more then order online and pray for Sammy screen...:(

So I recommend you that you just turn on your computer and let it stay on the same screen for 1-2 hours and see if you get IR problem.

chorner, i feel for you. same exact thing here. LOVED the machine, no other problems at all and the LG panel was gorgeous. but once i saw the ghosting i couldnt unsee it and we all deserve panels that dont do that, this machine is way to expensive to be doing that. good luck with the return and hope you win the "panel lottery"

Thank flipnap - well, I can say to you as well I feel for you and know how you feel. No way I'm holding onto this machine for this kind of money.

Here's to the panel lottery as you say. I'm wondering if I upgrade from my 2.6 to the 2.7 config if there's a better chance of the Samsung panel *shrug*.

well, i have heard the 2.7 has a bigger chache than the rest so the benefits there but thats an extra buck for an already expensive machine. i personally think apple is VERY aware of the issues with these panels, even though theyll never say theres a problem. i think now that the first wave is over, theyre quietly making sure no problem panels are getting through.

although to be honest, im not sure theres really a surefire bet. ive read PLENTY of posts with samsung panels suffering from dead pixels and backlight bleed. not to mention the occasional creaking body and rattling sounds. Itll work out, just dont settle. IL be returning these until next year if i have to until i get a proper one. a faulty panel is a faulty panel, doesnt matter how many times they replace it. if they cant get us a proper one its not on us to just "accept it". stay strong and good luck.

LG, no image retention ("ghosting"), but had uneven brightness and white point across the display (darker yellow patch in the lower-left quadrant of the display). It's in the process of getting replaced.
Got the replacement. Replacement contains a Samsung!

...but the white point is still a problem. :( It's not as noticeable on this screen as it was on the LG, but the bottom-left corner is still noticeably darker. On the LG, it was also quite a bit yellower, which I think made it stick out. On the Samsung, it just seems dimmer and somewhat dingy.

I really don't feel like sending this computer back over and over again.

When would I be leaving my screen on one image for 30 minutes anyhow? Seems like you guys are trying your hardest to get it to ghost.

I haven't noticed any ghosting either, does this mean it'll just happen one of these days?

LG. No issues.

Seriously. Why would I return my machine just because if you leave the screen on for 30+ minutes it'll ghost? I have my screen to hit the screensaver after 5 minutes on battery, turn off after 15 minutes. On power adapter, screensaver after 15 minutes, turn off after 30 minutes.

Am I just awaiting my own doom!?!?! D;

Manager at the Apple store quoted me $700 with parts and labor.

Also, it sounds like you had an issue with burn-in. Not ghosting. A burn-in should also be covered by the one year warranty

That's burn-in. Ghosting involves motion blur with fast movement. Like if you moved the mouse quickly and saw an after image (the "ghost') trailing the mouse.

Burn-in is why monitors and TVs have "screen savers" (or dim in the case of TVs running video games). It's not about battery life in the case of desktops and TVs. ;)

And no, it should not be a concern for those of us with LG panels. Samsungs would suffer the same fate if left on the same image for that long without the screensaver or auto-dim kicking in. That is why it is not recommended to turn these features off, and why they're automatically enabled from the factory.

I'm just going to get applecare and if the burn-in happens to me, I will ask for a repair/replacement and throw a fit and demand a full refund and/or get them to fix it.

No big deal!

The one year warranty that comes with all Macs would cover it. AppleCare wouldn't be necessary until after that first year is up.
