She and Miss Minutes go way backMiss Deadlines is a lovely name, by the way.
I’ve listened to some podcasts by people who have tried out the personas and the consensus was that it was useful in projecting an impression of engagement and that the uncanny part was only noticable for a short time and then you just got used to it and treated it like the person. A lot of times when people are presented with something that they are not used to their first reaction may be to retract from it. If they persist in trying it, they brain can quickly start focusing on the interaction and less on the presentation and the initial creepy feeling will fade.I feel like people are overreacting to the uncanny valley effect. I mean, propose you simply took a HD video and showed people how they look... you can bet quite a few people will think it looks weird and want it taken again. Heck, you can’t take a still photo with most people being happy. They don’t like their mirror reflected-self, or they don’t like the angle etc.
It is hard to accept a portrait of yourself. Your brain has its own competing self-image. I don’t suspect it is possible to have people acceot their persona no matter how much better it gets.
That said, to me as an outsider, I’m looking at all these personas and they look fine. Is it a photo, no. But it resembles who I, looking at… yes. Quite well.
It sounds like you’re honored to be part of Apple’s beta testing team. I hope you do your part well.Nah, early adopter with the beta version all the way! By the 2nd or 3rd version all the fun challenges are gone! I rather be a leader, than a follower! Early adopters can also send feedback to Apple and shape what is to come!
Maybe for some people it’s good enough now. Personally, I think it still looks creepy. It looks better but it still looks bad
Why though? Technologies like Face ID make a kind of 3D scan of a face. Just having an accurate 2D or stereoscopic picture won’t circumvent that.Just think... when they perfect it, that's the end of facial recognition security.
