I bought tether the day it was available on the app store, and was auto-refunded once it was pulled. The app still works :D

Didn't know HTML5 could access the wireless or create ad hoc connections.
Will you have to leave the page open and Safari selected to tether? You wouldn't be able to use the host device while it's sharing the internet if that's the case.

Yeah, but by now, you'd think that Apple could have put it's foot down, though.

I don't see how they could. Apple may be powerful, but plans and wireless network do not belong to them.

Would love for you to be right on this, because I'd love to see the carriers cave on tethering, but I really doubt that'll ever happen in the US.

great idea if you want to run a laptop or desktop.
I guess jailbreaking will have to do for wifi tethering for now.
Shame on you AT&T!

I almost bought this until I read it doesn't work on Wifi iPads. I don't own a laptop and don't plan on buying one so this service is useless for me.

No, you're wrong. Since when did Apple start bowing to the carriers? Oh that's right, they don't. Apple sets the terms, and the carriers sign on as soon as Apple will let them.

Apple has always bowed to the carriers!

Until a few days ago you couldn't download an App bigger than 20MB over the Cellular network (now it's 50MB).

Why would Apple care about that?

Why no Facetime on 3G?

Why does no other smartphone manufacturer have the same tethering restrictions that Apple does?

Why does the iPhone feature the "Carrier Settings" file concept (which carriers can use to restrict how people use iPhones on their network).

Apple does things that benefit the carriers and not their users.

I'm still enjoying Handy Light :) Remember? https://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/20/flashlight-app-sneaks-tethering-into-app-store-for-now/

This is what happens when companies are too restrictive. Others find a way to go around them. I said the same thing about OnLive's service and Microsoft, and it applies here. It's also why we have jailbreaks for iPhones.

Don't get me wrong. I love Apple products, but you squeeze your fists too tightly and things are bound to slip through the cracks.

I understand. It's good. But rounding back to the OnLive/MS issue - are we really saying that Microsoft wrong? I know the consensus here. MS is not really given the attention it deserves. But Windows is Microsoft's core business. It would matter a lot to MS if close to 5-10 million iPads install this OnLive app without any license. They would be losing significant revenue just for nothing.

I think its the right move. Even if they have to sue OnLive. Just my 2 cents.

This Is great! I would totally pay $30 a year for the ability to run my iPad through my iPhone !

I remember reading about iTether here (and/or handy light), and not downloading it instantly like the freaking idiot I am. That will never happen again. Since then I've downloaded apps like iMame, but never use them. Ergh!

So, how long until Verizon and AT&T show their evil side and block their website? Or notice that you have streamed 1GB of data from Tether's website and tack on the tethering charge?

But, this will work perfectly for me when I travel to LAX and Chicago next week since they don't have free wi-fi in the terminal. I am happy. :D

Wish I could tether from my iPhone 4. While I have unlimited data on my contract, tethering is against the terms and conditions... Heard they kick those who tether from the network.

The network is GiffGaff who use O2

To be clear...

Hey guys!

Mark here from Tether. Allow me to try and clear up how we've set this up.

Our new version of Tether for iOS works on ANY apple device that's 3G/4G enabled. So yes it will work on your iPad but only if it's 3G/4G enabled.

In order for it to work you need to install our PC/MAC software and have it running on your computer. This sets up the ad-hoc network that you'll connect to with your device.

Will YouTube ever stop sucking on iPhone. I can't watch this at all along with about 40% of most other vids. They should just remove the app from ios.

Go into Restrictions in the Settings app, disable the Youtube app. Then all youtube links will open in Safari, and it works much better than the app.

What's the difference between this and the tethering built in to iOS? Does the US carriers charge extra for tethering?

Yeah I don't think it'll be more than a few months until a patch is released for this.
