I had been using PDAnet but my trial expired... Anyone know how to enable tethering on a 3G running 3.1? I know that with 3.0 it was really easy but I never bothered when I upgraded to 3.1 way back when.

Thank you very much for your helpful post. It clears out a lot of confusions i had. I am having an issue and hope you can help.

I am using an iphone 3gs week 46 3.1.2 with baseband 05.11.07. My iphone was jailbroken and unlocked. However recently it froze and now I couldnt use it at all
(just black out). The only option left is to upgrade it to the new firmware 3.1.3 which is currently unjailbreakable. I have seen some posts said that "blacksn0w rc2" could unlock 3.1.3 iphone but only with the baseband 05.11.07. My question is why would happens to my iphone if i upgrade it to 3.1.3? Will this automatically upgrade my baseband to 05.12.01?

I followed the instructions to enable tethering on my 3gs but the Tethering patch 3gs is for 3.1.2 and I have 3.1.3 .. Will it still work or is there another sollution?

Sorry I'm competely green on this and I had my friend jailbreak my iPhone and I feel the need to update since all the cool new apps require 3.1 or higher and my Installous isn't working anymore. There is a wunnerful program in windoze called Copy Trans. As a mac addict I am jealous. I wish we had it. My son lost his macbook(some local trash broke in to his apt) He bought a new iphone in the meantime and loaded it up. Then when he got his new MBP...he was forced to restore. So....we used copy trans on my Pavillion..to copy all of his movies, music, photos. Im afraid we had to manually do the contacts but Im sure there is an easier way. This was non JB-ed at the time. After that we used SPIRIT on Mac to JB. Try that copy trans. ITS FREE!!

USE SPirit. It is foolproof. Newbie proof. Even I couldnt screw it up. Of course you are using Mac....?

Sorry, but only way to unlock is thru Cydia.

I have been trying to jailbreak and unlock my 3G..don't know what I'm dealing with because the phone is in emergency mode. Was told to use iclarified and pwnage, but in this guide it says that pwnage is Mac only??? Now what?
