Don't Forget El Salvador, the iphone 3G was released in this country on the Summer of 2008 by the company Claro.

and trust me I saw it, pre-paid $750 dollars.

I wanted to buy it, but I was in the country for only 1 month,

Just thought you would like to know.:D

Lol, it was deliberately omitted. :D
Which i why I posted a link to Apple's site;)

iphone app just crashes, seems others are having similar issues

Which part is not working for you? The iPhone part or the Mac part?

The iPhone part is working for me at 3.0.1 so I assume its the Mac part. I know iPhoneModem app is working in 10.5.8 cause thats what I have running. However, I can't say if it'll work well with Tiger 10.4.11.

Hell, I don't even know if it'll work with Snow Leopard.

Nice guide. I just jb my 3GS and found your guide to helpful...lots of nice features in the Cydia

For anyone who has not already found out, 3.1 will break your tethering and you will not be able to downgrade the software. At least yet.

Guide has been updated once again to reflect 3.1.0 release and it's concurrent jailbreak. Also, a warning to anyone with iPhone 3GS:

Do NOT update via iTunes if you wish to keep your unlock. Read previous sentence over 9000 times.

I have a 3GS jailbroken with 3.0.1. I am having some battery issues and want to restore it and rejailbrake it. Do I have restore my iPhone to the stock apple 3.0.1 or can I just skip that step and jailbrake it with redsnow?

Anyone seen addition charges or notice from Att about your tethering usage?
I read somewhere else someone say "To avoid AT&T noticing, make a VPN connection from the iPhone before setting up the tether. They'll still see the amount of traffic, but not the content. For all they know, it could be a network-hungry iPhone application. Youtube anyone?"

Could anyone point towards such a tutorial if i'm on windows?

When I tried to do this on my iPhone, I got to the point where I had the modem program on my Mac, but when I tried to start the connection after putting in the settings, it asked me to "start the SSH-Server" on my iPhone...What exactly does that mean? I downloaded an app through cydia called OpenSHS, but it doesn't show up as an app on my iphone. Did I download the wrong thing?

Any guidance?

It is the right app. OpenSSH will not appear in the Springboard. It is more of a utility for Cydia than anything else. Also, be sure to connect to the Wi-Fi network your Mac created.

Jav...I connected to the Wi-Fi my mac created and everything looked fine, but the internet would not work once connected....Phone has a great signal.

Maybe I don't have an IP address on my iPhone like you mention in the original post? How do I do that? Sorry for the basic questions.

Edit: Yep, no IP address, as I checked the wi-fi settings for the new connection. How do I get it to generate one?

Self generated...

Also, give it 2 min, takes time to finish up.

Stuck

Hi, unfortunately i upgraded via iTunes.

Got bootloader 6.2 so can't use Fuzzy either to downgrade my baseband from 05.11.07 to 4.x
Is there any options for me to get connected to my operator?
Any hard hacking tool to fix this? Use SSH to enter root and change Bootloader? Any info when the dev-team will release ultrasn0w version that can unlock this baseband? Thanks for all helpful information!

Regards Daniel:)

Sorry, nothing. Once you upgraded you are stuck there...

Jailbreakin'

Really simple and obvious question. I have a 1.1.4 8gb and it has my music and settings and such on it. I want to jailbreak it. Do I need to restore it to new condition (wipe the data)? Can I just jailbreak? I know for some functions (unlocking) they say to go to a clean version of 1.1.4 then use ziphone. The tutorial here seems to indicate you just run ziphone on your phone as it is.

Check out the iclarified.com website. They have a bunch of tutorials that make it really foolproof. I JB'd my iphone and then restored it. I found I really had no need for it. But I may JB again so I can tether. I upgraded to 3.1 and the only tether hack out there now requires the JB. JO you dont have to wipe the data(you keep your backups and itunes dir) of course itcleans off your iphone but then restores all yer music, apps etc.

Tethering Guide

4. Once your config is saved, go to "start connection" and follow the prompts. Your Mac will create an ad-hoc network, which you will then join with your iPhone (make sure you get an IP address on your iPhone before continuing). Everything should go smoothly, and voila, you're tethered!

Well Post #2 of this thread has all you answers. Read it. Just hit that "<<First" on your top right area of your screen, scroll down a bit and find Post #2.

It details, how to unlock, jailbreak and everything you need.

Edit: Also, never pay for an unlock. You can do it yourself and be free. Besides that, all pay sites for unlocking are scams anyway.
