advice please

appreciate the reply, unfortunetley im not the quickest learner. The startup was almost 2 years ago, has anything changed? I have att service and a gateway computer. Can i make calls, use internet or connect to itunes, or is it like being a vampire....once i switch over i can never go back. Just dont want to make a mistake in this process.

thanks again

The thread has been constantly updated. Read it. All the information should still be good. Jailbreaking and unlocking does nothing to your AT&T service; it only adds capabilities, it takes nothing away. And if you don't like being jailbroken or unlocked you can always just restore to the official firmware and erase all trace of your jailbreak.

Again, read the thread.

thanks alot

sorry for asking the question, thanks for replying back with no questions really answered. the thread is 17 pages, just thought someone could give a novice like me a few seconds to answer some simple questions

Actually, you don't need to read the entire thread. Just the first 4 posts. Those are the ones with Information you need. Also, the posts are updated constantly by me and are up to date with latest iPhone firmware/software revisions and latest unlocking/jailbreak tools.

All you need to really do is read Post #2 of the this thread or look for the index on the very first post.

Asking for clarification

Jav6454,

First, thanks for your time and all the great posts. I am new to the JB / unlocking process and wanted to get clarification on tethering so I do not tip off AT&T.

I do not quite understand what this means when you stated: "Don't use the tethering feature as a main Internet connection, you will get AT&T to notice."

Confused by the main internet connection portion.

Sorry for the stupid question but I do not want to go further until I am sure I fully understand the process.

Thanks again!

needing help

Hello all.
Hope u guys can shed some light here.

I have been using an iphone 8gb since dec 2008 ( at the time iPhone was not available yet in the country i live in)
I received d iphone frm US. The iPhone arrived in the usual black box with no SIM card included.from what i read i guess my iphone was jailbroken and unlocked.
I dont what version it is and i dont even know what 'generation' it is! But i THINK it is the 1st gen iPhone and i the only information i gotis 'iPhone US v1.3' printed sumwhere in the information guide. does it mean mine is version1.3?

At first i inserted a Maxis SIM card (the carrier i'm currently using) and it work perfectly fine.Only sumtimes having trouble downloading apps and stuff.

Then i very stupidly updated the software and now i have a useless iPhone that doesnt recognize my SIM and can only make emergency calls.

so now how to make it work again?i know i hav to unlock and/or jailbreak the phone ( i think..) i've read the thread and googled the net but i still end up getting very very confused!
Im not tech savvy i'm afraid.

i'd be very grateful if someone can give me some pointers and explain in the simplest form available.better still if sum1 can fix my phone for me haha.can say i'm kinda desprate + i mis my god 'ol iPhone.. Thanks!

amazin article there jav6454...thank you...i'm new to the whole iphone community...i have an unlocked iphone 2g with firmware 1.1.x and i would like to upgrade to 3.1....what should i do???...if you can shed some light on this it would be of great help...thank you

Well, a main Internet connection is the one you use for everything (blogs, YouTube, Hulu, etc) Using the tethering as your main source of Internet data will mean your wireless data usage will surge and AT&T will notice and might tell you what's the deal with your line.

It's a 1st Gen iPhone.

I can't go into much detail because I'm about to leave on a plane and loose all Internet for a while. But in short. Connect your iPhone to iTunes and click 'Check for Update' Let iTunes update your device. After use Pwnage to create a custom iPhone Software that unlocks/jailbreaks and activates your device. You will be running the latest software and be unlocked.

Update thruogh iTunes as anyone would. Then use Pwnage to create a Custom iPhone Software. Use iTunes to install it on your iPhone and you should be set.

==== More detailed instructions are found in the links one the 2nd Post === iClarified has videos and step by step (with pics) guides to show you how to. Believe me, it's real easy and simple, nothing rocket science like ====

thanks man...will try it...but pawnage is for mac right????...i use windows...so what should i do...

wow it sounds simple enough. great! but i use windows. (and itunes 9.0.1.8) and i read in your earlier post pwnage is only for mac.

any reason why tethering not working with windows 7?

my phone would work with my mac pro, but it doesn't work with my PC running windows 7.

Tethering Guide
Here are the codes from AT&T
  • CLL2 - Provides 200 free Text Messages for College students. Be on the look, since not all college FAN# support this code. If your college does not support it, the promotion will be dropped after 1 or 2 billing cycles.
  • U200 - Provides 200 Free Bonus Anytime Minutes.
  • TMB9 - Provides a Texting Plan that consists of $7.49 a month for 750 Text Messages; for iPhone users this also includes MMS when available.

Are these extra minutes or text messages automatically added to each billing cycle, or only to the current one? If only the current one, can you enter that code every billing cycle anyways?

Hi guys ive recently gone on an att plan of 69.99 a month with unlimited data.

I obviously dont want to get charge an extra 30 $ for the tethering.

Should this method prevent that??

Does pdanet also work in that matter?

Ive got an unlocked jailbroken iphone.

Hey, I'm pretty new to the whole jailbreaking/unlocking thing, I read the first few posts here and still am a little unclear on some stuff, but I'm thinking about giving it a try. I'm currently on an AT&T plan, but I'm about to leave for about 6 months and will be mostly in Argentina. They've got the iPhone there, but I assume to get a legit iPhone deal I'd have to enter into a two year deal or something. I currently have the 3GS, and thought that unlocking it and using a pay as you go SIM would be the best option.

Do I just have to run Pwnage and then pick up a SIM card and I'm good to go?

Do pay as you go plans usually have reasonable rates for data?

If I do this do I still have access to whatever iTunes App Store downloads I have?

Does anyone know if it would be possible to do this straight up in Argentina without jailbreaking or unlocking?

Thanks a lot for the help.

I wasnt aware that there was a 30 buck charge for tethering. I do know there is 30 charge for unltd data. Also have tethered successfully with 3.0..but I upgraded when I got a new 3gs...so in order to tether I will have to JB. I dont know if I wanna do that. I was only tethering just for curiosity anyway. Like I said..I could be wrong. Wouldnt be the 1st time.<g>

hi, everyone!

im new and just got an iphone 3gs a few days ago. im still using it on otb ofw 3.0 with baseband 04.26.08

i would wish to jailbreak and unlock my iphone, but i want to be 100% sure before doing anything to my phone, thats why i want to clarify a few things.

first, do i really need the iBEC, iBSS and ECID as stated on the guide? (because a friend of mine, told me its not really necessary and is obsolete.) Should i get it or not?

Secondly, he mentioned that using Pwnagetool and custom firmwares are "cleaner" than using redsnow, blacksnow.. etc. What are the pros and cons of using Pwnagetool against quickPWN -variant Jailbreaks?

Lastly, i was also informed that it's advisable to stick with 3.0 fw for the mean time, is there a tutorial somewhere to get a custom firmware with 3.0, jailbreak and unlock? also pls consider that i use a windows vista PC.

pls point me to the right direction to achieving my goals. :) [jailbroken, unlocked, running custom firmware 3.0]

thanks in advance!

1. Getting the iBEC, iBSS and ECID is always important according the the Dev Team. I have mine just in case.

2. True, Pwnage is cleaner but a bit slower in the jailbreak process. However, it reduces drastically any mistakes and errors.

3. Yes, it's best to stick to 3.0 if you wish to keep your baseband; however, you can update to 3.1.2 and still have your 3.0 baseband due to some help from Pwnage.

Help! i tried getting the iBEC and iBSS, (using iclarified tutorial) but it says my device is not eligible for restore.

How do i get these files?

Also, since i couldnt find a friend with a mac, i was leaning towards just jailbreaking via redsnow route for the mean time, and once i found a mac to make a cfw on, restore and start from scratch, then jailbreak using pwnagetools route.

is this even possible anymore? since apparently i cant do a 3.0 restore. pls help/guide me. thank you :)

Guide has been updated to account for new Pwnage and Redsn0w tools. Sorry, but I can't answer each question asked here; I rarely look past page 1 and this is page 17. If you want your question to be answered, just shoot me off a PM.

Also, I won't answer some question I know the answers are in the guide/FAQ. Just read people, it isn't an 200 page encyclopedia.

jailbreak 3.1.3 with 05.12.01... PLEASE HELP!

Hi All,

Please advise the best option to jailbreak 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 baseband iphone. My phone was 3.1.2 and tried to jailbreak with black rain snow. but unfortunately I removed black rain from the system before it rebooted. I had to restore from Apple server and I am now stuck with 3.1.3 with new base band. ANY NEW OPTION? PLEASE ADVISE.

Thanks in advance.

If you have 05.12 baseband you can't currently jailbreak or unlock it...we'll see what the Dev Team comes up with.

I share the same question regarding these promo codes...
